This is such a Port move. I really like Ken as a person - he's smart, I think he's got great ideas about how the league should run, he seems really nice as a human being, he builds quality culture, and the players seem to love him. But as a coach, he rarely out-coaches anyone. Every year, he comes up with one single idea about how to play the team. He doesn't pivot, he can't adapt, and the one-dimensional plans get disassembled by the time the games count. With absolutely no feeling of malice, I think replacing him is long overdue as a business decision. As a business, however, this doesn't make sense. Firstly, Josh Carr's been here coaching this team as they've crashed and burned time and time again. How does that make him the next guy? How do you not go out to market and have an honest hiring process where you find the best available person for the job? And how do you make a decision this big one full season in advance? So now if Port crashes out and ends the season as the worst team in the league, you're going to reward the assistant coach who took them there? Carr's had the midfield duties for some time now, and they've been trending down, down, down. If they keep heading in that direction, you're going to expand his responsibilities? And on the other side of predicting the future, if they are the best team in the league and win the premiership, Ken's reward is to be walked out of the building? This wouldn't make sense in any other sports league in the world. Bizarre.
Port fan, love Hinkley but happy to see him go. I agree mostly, but I'm excited to see what Carr can do. I don't reckon finding the "best" coach will magically change things. Brad scott, Dimma, Clarkson, Ross lyon.. none made finals last year
The drama is around the succession plan and the fact the guy who is going to succeed him has already been coaching them from the Coaches box while Ken Hinkley has been on the bench for the last two years. Its very bizarre and reminiscent of the Bombers succession plan when Ben Rutten was announced as John Worsfold's successor which largely lead to a highly disjointed 2020 season because nobody in their right mind know who the real Coach was which also meant nobody had any clue whatsoever what the gameplan was. History tends to show that whenever you announce a publicly announce a succession plan while the Coach is still contracted is a disastrous move instead of waiting to announce it at the end of the season.
@taliamason7986 like I've said, we've known about this succession plan for years now. They are honouring his contract. If they sack him now they still have to pay him either way. It's not like he is a terrible person they want to get rid of.
2025 and we still can't develop any form of advance tech that would allow us to hear the questions

Well said
What's wrong with honouring a contract?

Cannot HEAR the people asking questions. Grrr
As a saints fan always loved the passion he showed, all the best
blokes a real legend
When the he'll will audio be sorted to properly hear questions
Everyone already knows Kenny has one more year, I don't understand the drama from AFL media, or any media for that matter
AFL Season hasn't started, they have to make something out of nothing for ratings

Succession planning is smart, announcing it( although they probably don’t have a choice) isn’t.
A tedious and sad march to a distant door. Did not work for Collingwood.
Thats a shame, was hoping ken would coach port forever, as port sucks
Mr koche can not pronounce premiership
Ken has performed admirably with a very average overall list. Did I hear 5 top 4 finishes in a row? Pretty amazing really,
Except that we didn’t. 2022 we didn’t even make the 8
