Manisha had given such amazing performances in 90s and this interviewer is hell bent on focusing on failures and blunders. It’s so different how media creates perceptions. Those days many actresses had done these blunders even madhuri! Mostly everyone had only 3-4 good roles to boast off and infact Manisha had many more than her contemporaries she was way ahead of them.
While you are v right about the guy , your last part is wrong. Kajol n Karisma had more hits n good roles. Manisha did too many flops so by 98 her stardom was almost over. She had talent n beauty but she was unlucky for box office success.
Karishma did not come to limelight until raja Hindustani. Her acting was terrible in the movies she did when Manisha had rose to popularity. Kajol Karishma being nepo kids had media advantage and opportunities too.
Thats right,those karisma and kajol mostly took regular role,they played safe,while manisha always challenged her self by choosed different role,by being sweet girl,till become terrorist girrl,

Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to move on, I really loved her so much i can't stop thinking about her and the memories we shared. We've all done things in life that we aren't particularly proud of, but I always found Manisha very authentic. She has had great screen presence, done some great movies, and some not so great ones, but she has always led her life unapologetically, and is a an artist who loves her craft deeply. Have always loved her voice, and it's great to see her in good health and back on screen.

Manisha refused Dil To Pagal Hain because it was a small role while Madhuri had the main role. It is natural to feel insecure and have thought why should you do such a small role when you are getting heroine roles in other big budget films. Juhi, Urmila, Kajol also refused due to this reason. Then Yash Chopra added more scenes to improve the role and approached Karisma (who did great). For similar reasons, many top heroines refused Rani's role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hain.Rani was a newcomer, so she was more than happy and did a great job.

She was unnecessarily worried abt Madhuri. She was/is a much better actress than MD. MD is 90s Deepika padukone. Super successful but same average acting in all films. She was always MD in her films, not the character.
Having said that I dont think manisha was a right fit for that urban dancer role in DTPH. karishma totally killed in that role and outshined MD. Apart from karishma only Urmila could have done that. It was offered to her as well.
Look you feel Manisha is better actress than MD, I feel MD is better actress than Manisha, it's just a choice and favoritism. I don't want to comment on that. For Karishma out shining Madhuri in DTPH, the thing is despite being a leading lady of the film Karishma's role is better written than Madhuri and the role was such it bound to get audience sympathy. About Manisha's performance, she always got meaty roles in the films of directors like Mani Ratnam, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Vidhu Binod Chopra etc, where she got ample opportunity to showcase her talent. On the other hand Madhuri mostly worked with average directors but on the basis of her sheer talent she shined in those films and became super successful. It's totally her credit. Comparison is good but before that think of their filmography.
@@subhendudey6625 credible directors offer meaty role to someone when they believe that person has that talent to pull it off. Meaty roles get offered to Vidya not to Katrina BCZ directors know Vidya can do an amazing job in that role though Katrina has more blockbusters under her kitty. Madhuri in her entire career played same next door good girl. When she tried her comeback with aja nach le, she acted exactly the same though it was a meaty role. She was so average that PPL liked character roles of konkana, ranveeer etc more than her. Juhi was always placed after her in 90s, but when Gulab gang came it was juhi who got all the critical claim. So it is not prefering someone over another, it is just seeing things logically.
I don't discredit her huge success and amazing dancing, but as an actor she was average

And by the way Vidhu Binod Chopra's 1942 love story( she even did photoshoot for the movie), Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Khamoshi the musical was first offered to Madhuri. Actually the case is daane daane par likhi hai khane wale ka naam, so it went to Manisha. You pulled her down by saying she is average actor but didn't say she could have eaten Manisha in dancing if she dare to do DTPH. If you are so nutral then praise the both highlighting their plus points.

To be fair Karisma was the right choice for the part in Dil Toh Paagal Hai. As good an actress she is, I feel dancing was her Achilles Heel, you needed someone who could go toe to toe with Madhuri which she couldn't. It was quite evident in Lajja. 16:09
