I love hearing the stories... My dad would be 76 this year and he tracked deer in northern Michigan and passed it down to me.... the biggest problem we have now is all the damn trail systems we have.... ya can't get lost if you wanted to and if you think you are lost.... Just stop and listen for 15 mins you will hear a side by side.
Same here in southeast Kentucky all atv riding and roads everywhere I hunt the atv trails I can move quieter and the deer seem to be shocked when they catch me walking instead of riding
Damn that's sad. I tracked and shot my buck this year in allagash wilderness northern ME 30 miles deep. When I was dragging him out I stopped and recorded the scene on my phone. Talk about the sound of pure silence. You should go up there for a remote hunt/ camping trip. Sounds like you'd love it.
I remember a time in the early 80s myself in Vermont in the Dorset area counting anywhere from 60 to 75 deer in one field at one time. I have never seen anything like that since.
It’s true about the bear and coyote. In my area, we have a large coyote population. On any given night I can sit on my porch and hear them yipping, and you always know when they kill something because they get crazy. The bear population has exploded here in the last 20 years as well. Not surprisingly, it seems like there are less deer than there used to be.
Seems like they killed all the larger class genes. And the easy ones because it's a changed
