Hey thanks for the video very helpful. I just changed the oil and filter on my '05 TTR-230 and had no issues. One thing I'd like to point out to anyone that happens across this, is that the bleed screw WILL put out a good amount of oil if you remove it completely (like me...). So just slowly back the screw out until you see just a little oil weep out; there should not be a need to remove it completely, lesson learned. Dripped oil all over the engine.
Good job, I just got me a used TTR230 and changed my oil. The filter you have is not a "cleanable" filter, that's a use it and lose it filter. They come from the factory with a mesh screen type filter, you just hit it with some gasoline, kerosene, something like that wash any gunk off of it and stick it back in there, but many opt to replace it with paper filters due to the fact they filter better, but if your clutches start going bad and you make a lot of "trash" in your oil, those paper filters can stop up easier than the screen types, so....pick your side on that one. Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that for anyone coming to see this video, the only cleanable filter is the screen mesh, if its paper, id just toss it and get another one.
Hey Fernando, Ham Bro is correct. But this is a dual sport kit, not just a lighting kit. Which includes a license plate plaque on the rear. Mine is a Baja Designs Dual Sport Kit. www.bajadesigns.com/products/Yamaha-TTR230.asp
Does Yamaha sell a replacement oil filter element? I'd rather just replace it than spray solvent on it personally. Looking into getting a TTR230, does the street legal kit come as an option or is it aftermarket?
Dont take the filter out before all the oil drains and it wont leak out of the filter chamber. Change the filter every time, dont put a dirty filter back in. They are like 4 bucks. 1.1 liter if you CHANGE the filter, not remove and re-insert.
Great video and while it will probably be alright, i like to crank the bike with no fuel for a few seconds to get the oil pressure up before actual startup
LifeBehindBars yes you should be able to just keep your petcock off. It should be fine to start right up but for immediate oil pressure crank it with no way of actually starting, whether that's no fuel or clogging the air box with a rag.
Hey I have an question. I have ttr225 I did a oil change on it and when it runs cold it doesn’t smoke but once the engine gets warm it starts to smoke. It started happening all the sudden and I can’t figure out why. Can you do a video step showing exactly how much to put into this engine has exact same engine that is on Ttr 230.If you can I would really appreciate it I am just really starts to cause this is the second time I had to replace his engine I can’t afford to keep on buying motors for this dirtbike.
John Dedo hey, si sorry i haven’t answered you. Did you find a solution yet? My lawnmower does this…(Has a carb and all the small engine jazz). I let it idle for a bit, it gets warm, then spews smoke. After a few minutes of revving it quit. To answer your question, this bike takes 1 quart, unless you remove the oil filter element also, which will then require 1.1 quarts total.
I see nothing in the manual stating to remove the shift lever, I didn't with mine and never saw a reason to. All TTR230's are exactly the same, the only change is the graphics and the color of the frame.
jermdurm cycleracks.com. They’re out of Boise, ID. I’ve loved having it, but some people aren’t fond of having their calf rubbing while riding. It has been very convenient for groceries, packs, small animals, etc. It has also acted as a bumper guard when laying down the bike. Saves the blinkers every time. cycleracks.com/collections/rear-motorcycle-racks/products/yamaha-ttr230-rear-rack
Hola disculpa puedes subir un video en la que muestres tu moto ttr 230, me parece muy bonita por que tiene todo el sistema de luces. Y yo quisiera ponerle el sistema de luces a la mía por que no trae nada
Josue Hernandez ey, Josue, me encantaría. Dame unos días, que voy a hacer un resumen de las primeras mil millas en la moto con opiniones y comentarios.

Yes, back it out just a 1/4-1/2 turn. Good point!

Will this work with a 2011?
Thanks for the video....did your 230 come with the lights? Mine didn't and wondering where to get them?
He added a light kit.

My street legal kit is a Baja Designs kit. Yamaha doesn’t sell a 230 with the street legal option, but Honda does; CRF 230L.
And yes, oil filters for the Yamaha 230 are very inexpensive.

Where did you take the light for front and rear

Where did you find a big ignition for yours? Is it part of the dual sport kit?
I see nothing in the manual stating to remove the shift lever, I didn't with mine and never saw a reason to. All TTR230's are exactly the same, the only change is the graphics and the color of the frame.
Made things easier for me.
Just a personal recommendation. Made things easier for me.

Would this be the same to a 2019 ttr 230
Orlando Ramirez yes
Is the steps for oil change the same for a 2008 ttr230
Cornil Dariy hey I have a 2008ttr 230 too
I couldn’t tell you specifically, but as far as I know, the build of these bikes has not changed much between ‘08 and now.
Quick question. Where did you find the back rack for your TTR 230?
