Would there happen to be a boat tour of this boat? The style has me curious. Thank you.

We will have to film one next time we visit, but you can go on the Wharram website and look at the Pahi 63, which is the design of Gaia.

I'm in my 50's with nothing and no one and lost everything in a fire. I'm thinking of something like this to live aboard. I'd love to build something like Ontong Java...but I don't even know where to begin or how to go about finding any kind of community to plug into. Housing and land is insane these days and I've always loved the idea of having my own ship or floating island....maybe someday.

Ontong Java is a magnificent boat. But you don’t necessarily need something so big. I recommend joining the Wharram FB group and subscribing to their website, reading articles, or do what we did first and buy their design book online which gives you an overview of the philosophy, building techniques and boat designs. Then you can be better informed and choose a design you might like to build yourself. Alternatively, there are Wharrams for sale to buy secondhand.

@@velvetvideo Have a look at Wildlings Sailing. He's doing up a 42ft Wharram. IMO that's a better size for one or two people.

You could build Tangaroa, 37 ft design. It is a big enough for ocean sailing for two people. Few sailed around the world.

Hi im a sailing vlog regular .. and wharram fan I know Mark Wilding sailing.. hes restoring a Pahi 42 No doubt Hanneka mentioned him shes visited him and he stayed with her on one visit.
Im also an Environmental Scientist and Geologist who studied in the Westcountry 🇬🇧🧙🏼‍♂️
I have some information that might help you and all wooden boat builders as well as Wharram builders in particular.
If i can post up the Utube vlogs it will help but if the settings on this page are wrong my comments will just vanish ..which is a real pain.
Basicly the green alternative to GRP is Basalt fiber.. its also safer and not irritating ...
The other area is there are chemically engineered soft woods becoming available that are highly rot resistant and have substantially better mechanical properties. Interested ?🧙🏼‍♂️😉

@@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 hello! Yes Hanneke of course talks about Mark, and it’s funny you pop up here today as I was just thinking of him yesterday and planning to reach out.
Another coincidence is that only yesterday I received a research paper that’s looking VERY promising about basalt fiber with bio epoxies, AND, we may have stumbled upon the worlds first 100% bio epoxy 😅🙌🏼
I’ve got some calls scheduled to learn more.
One issue we’re coming up against otherwise is a lot of greenwashing and extremely high prices for bio composites that only have a tiny portion of bio content.
I publish updates on our research to our Substack newsletter, are you a subscriber? I’ll also be getting back to producing videos real soon.

Just tried posting it looks like they are blocking me from making even internal links to other U tube Vlogs 🤦🏻🤷🏻.. they really don't have a clue.
Yup they are blocking/deleting their own links. I've sent you a direct message. Let's see if that works.
Mark Wilding Sailing would definitely feel better for a bit of support.. given his dry rot problem.
Reading your post ... and given your family needs the best Sub 60ft Wharram
I've seen based on available plans is one called Vasco Pyjama .. there's two U tube films of it .. from when it was for sale. It offers internal space stability and Protection from the elements year round..
Remember the weather patterns are broken and climate change is making former paradises increasingly difficult. Extreme heat violent sudden storms, high winds , giant hail and torrential rain ⛈️ ditto lightening has been hitting more Yatchs. 🧙🏼‍♂️
My favourite composite Cats are the Broadblue Rapier R550 and the Windelo's 54... Not just for their performance but also for their practical designs given the actual experiences of long distance cruisers and live aboard's.

@@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 Hi Clive, I'll check emails and get back to you. The Tiki 46 is bigger than our budget (either secondhand or to build new) though it's certainly a beautiful design. Perhaps one day...
For now, and especially as our boys are growing fast and may not stick with us (Ryder will be 18yo by the time we splash), the Narai Mk IV is a good choice - affordable, won't take us forever to build (hopefully!), and comfortable enough.
I shared the paper on Basalt fiber in our Substack chat. Be sure to check it out.
