Honestly history repeated itself in Summer 2023 but with Guardians 3/Across the Spider Verse
Everyone was talking about Guardians 3 until Across the Spider Verse came out.
But the lesson is, when all said and done: Iron Man 1, The Dark Knight, Guardians 3, and Across the Spider Verse are all AMAZING pieces of comic book cinema.

It really is funny watching this in 2019. There should be a video where Iron Man looks back at this video here and laughs at ever having had to worry, because he won in the long run. Big time.
TDKR made a little more money than TDK, but was much less acclaimed, while BvS and JL were critically thrashed and made less money than either Nolan sequel. Iron Man went on to appear in four 1-billion dollar movies (plus IM2 and SPMH) and TWO 2-billion dollar movies, the second now being the highest grossing movie of all time. And the MCU is held in far better regard than the DCEU.
Amazing what can happen in 11 years.
