The man is a silent assassin, he's been involved on so many projects with great people and yet he's still known as one the Queens. Excellent interview!
so few bands truly put the totality of their music first...and even fewer have players like TVL...or Dean...professionals by performance as well as aesthetics...new record is like all the others...just flat out compelling music....
When I was much younger I didn't fully understand how good Queens was. I'm glad I took the time to figure that out and continue to enjoy the musical journey they continue to take us on. Cheers.
All I can say is grateful I am for Josh Homme and his friends. This record is simply how good all of them are together. It’s the sound of support. Thank fuck for Queens of the Stone Age.
Just discovered your channel because of this interview! I’m a long time QOTSA fan (and also APC). I’m one of those fans that has traveled to many shows because I can’t get enough of their soul-touching, and unique rock sound (so glad that Troy touched on how they change sets - as a fan - love that!). This album… Times… wow - sure did not let us fans down. It’s deep, infectious, Beatle-esk, with a little Iron Butterfly and a little sprinkle of The Fixx (Saved By Zero) - and so many other layers of gripping melodies. Ecstatic they are touring again and glad to have found your channel - subscribed! Thank you for sharing this fantastic interview!
Austin, Texas, 2016. Outside my new job smoking a cigarette, intending to quit. Scanning the crowd, I see a group of men dressed in all black. But more so, I spot a tall ginger man being bathe in camera flashes and adulation. I journey further down to see what's going on. It took a second to set in but as I got nearer, it clicked. I was walking toward Josh, Dean, and of course Troy. I turned into a school girl seeing The Beatles. I still remember telling Josh, "I don't want a picture or autograph man, I just wanna shake your hand." And his response with a smile, "Well, let's make it worth it." By that point I couldn't get out anything else to Dean and Troy lol. But they acknowledged me with a slight grin, like yup its us. A moment in life I won't forget. Also this new record is fucking amazing!
Nice😊...qotsa covered "wake up screaming" by subhumans, one of my fave punk bands since I was a nipper...and I was in a forest(lake district) with my bird n daughters and I bumped into dick lucas(singer) and his missus?....I'm the same , no interest in autographs or photos of my musical heroes, I was just like " hey mate, are you dick lucas??...it made my fucking week cos it was random as fuck....I dunno if I'm conveying it right ha ha ha...don't matter if yer musical heroes are Elton John or jilted John, its all relative....
This album has touched me in a way I just can't describe. It's as if I took part in it's creation, or they have written it for me. It's such a powerful collection of songs. I'm in love.
I mean… A great interview from one of the most bad ass musicians in one of the most bad ass bands who, to my taste, continue to write amazing albums…. I’m thankful QOTSA exists, they’ve never saved my life or any of that bullshit, but man, they sure do make my ear balls tingle. Thanks for the interview.
Great interview. Troy is a legend. It's pretty awesome that you were there when he got the invite to join Queens. I would never forget that moment either. Gonna check out some older episodes. It looks like youve had some other great guests too. Keep up the good work
the album was insane, loved Emotion Sickness, paper machete, carnavoyeur and straight jacket fitting. it feels like a fresh breath of air but the only thing i missed was that i wanted alain johannes playing too.
Stumbled upon this podcast while searching info on the new QOTSA album. Great interview, you now have a new fan. Oh, i also liked and subscribed and am currently commenting in hopes I can get my hands on one of those LPs. What a great gift that would be becauce my turntable is sitting next to me naked
A great interview! I have loved Troy and his amazing guitar playing for years. So nice to see a peek on two buds catching up...not like a regular interview, way better. Subscribed!
Just stumbled upon your podcast through this interview with Troy. Love the conversation and some fascinating insights. Just caught QOTSA for the 5th time at Pinkpop in Holland and it was an incredible set. Great to have them back and will be tuning into more of your work :)
I first discovered Troy Van Leeuwen through "A Perfect Circle," and from that point on, I became a massive fan of his work, whether it was with QOTSA, Mark Lanegan, Failure, or Enemy. He's definitely one of my all-time favorite guitar players. Great episode.
@Ryan I remember seeing that NIN show back on the Fragile tour, and had the same kind of experience with APC as you. It didn't click that first time, but I saw them again with Smashing Pumpkins that summer, and they've been on my playlist ever since. Great episode, guys. 🤘
First time checking out this channel & my first time seeing T.V.L. by himself in an interview. I'm a huge fan of Qotsa, I listen & love everything they put out, go to their shows, wear the t-shirts. But this new album In times... I'm just so blown away by them. The excitement I have around The release of this record, the videos and promos they've been putting out, wow! I have not been this excited over any music in a while. It truly lights a fire in your soul. You riffing with TVL was great. I learned so much. Snow Patrol! You guys had great charisma together I wish there was a part 2. Maybe catch up with him again in the middle of the tour. Looking forward to checking out your other interviews. Thank you so much for this one!
Absolutely great interview, all questions are on point, well informed and dynamic. I’m on my second listening, I just loved it that much, unbelievable that such an iconic, cool and outstanding musician is a sweetheart as well. Please keep up the great content.
Jason! I am a new fan! You came up in my feed because like you, I’m a QOTSA fan and I have been paying close attention to everything that is going on. You interviewed Troy so well! It felt like I was a Carnavoyeur watching two great friends chop it up, not a typical interview talking about gossip or settling the score. Now it seems I have work to do, because you have so many other episodes that I must dive into!! Thanks for everything you do The Rockman Power Hour!!❤
First time I am viewing an interview with Troy thanks to my most recent discovery, your channel! I have been looking through it and I will for sure continue to assist, amazing and interesting content! Lastly, I would like to mention that this new QOTSA album is a masterpiece, I am hearing it all day at work haha. Stay well Rockman! :)
First time commenter, long time fan! Great interview with Troy, I learned about his other projects, Gone is Gone, and the Armed what cool bands! I love Queens pick me I need that record!!!!
I can't even tell you how my musical life is wrapped up in queens It goes like this 2001 i go into blockbuster video and I buy 3 CDs for the new CD player and i somehow heard no one knows and went a little overboard on sale items Era But...Lullabies and Songs for the deaf and two of them came with a video that showed them during the production process and i was i awe and since those first days in 2001-2002 in Hemet California i haven't missed a day without Josh and Whom i discovered and loved in my own music cabinet in my life Troy Van Leewen his slide work with the lap and 12 string and just his beautiful output/input in qotsa i mean i in love with this band like misfit love on rollings show Insane musical companionship(i couldn't spell comradery[that's a 1st] lol) anyway i am so stoked for Troy and the fans and every body associated with this new album it is such a breath and can't wait to chew it up puke it out and chew it up again like the pills and gum some of us might have regergated in our lives God bless be well and rock it at 11 your new friend Mark Eisen A.k.a MOON
I would love to see Pnut from 311 or Whitfield crane from ugly kid Joe on your pod… whit has so many cool stories and a diverse background of projects/bands so under the radar
The new album is one of their finest works. I saw some people knee-jerk dismiss it at first and I think those people will regret not giving it more space first… it’s a grower. And once it sinks its fangs in, it’s hard to shake it loose. “time and place” is stuck in my head nonstop right now. Not a bad track on the entire record. At first “made to parade” seemed like a weak spot to me but the second half and guitar solo outro are just magical. Brilliant album.
First time listener, ill be going back thru your channel you got lots of good guests! Troy is the man, hoping he plays another Sweethead show soon, last time i saw them was in joshua tree!
I am so looking forward to this album. Great interview. Super awesome learning about Jason and Troys history together. Keep up the awesome podcast. Keep rockin!
So glad you mentioned Time & Place, had the same effect on me that the beginning of "If I had a tail", I have the album on repeat, since it came out, even today I was surprised again by a part in "Straight Jacket Fitting" I hadn't really paid attention to, so good!
Thanks for a warm and relaxed conversation with Troy - liked his observations on Covid as a catalyst for creativity. Looking forward to episode 71 and seeing The Queens in Manchester this November.
Found a new podcast to follow! Will definitely be checking out your past episodes. Thanks to RUclips for acknowledging my QOTSA obsession by filling my feed with band related suggestions & sending me to yours. This album is amazing! QOTSA is my fav band & love every album but this one ranks up there as one of their best.
Just found out this channel with this awesome interview and insight in Troy's perspective throughout the years, QOTSA just keep giving/showing me good stuff non stop, keep this channel running guys, good work!
TVL is the raddest! The first jazzmaster I got was his signature model… half of my pedalboard is inspired by his. Would love me the new album on vinyl 😉
I still love art and I always look forward to seeing interviews with artists I like. LP release interviews, festival interviews etc. I still think this is a cool part of music release customs. Full 10+ songs LPs, rig rundowns, watching full concerts live or on RUclips, etc. This stuff still inspires me and I don't want to live in a 5-sec video influencer post-apocalyptic transhumanist dystopia.
The Armed played their Ultrapop album release show in Detroit last March. Troy was there and he played several songs with them. Amazing show. Hope to see him play with them on the tour coming up.
Crazy that Troy worked with Snow Patrol, I live in Belfast (near where Gary Lightbody is from) and I regularly see him in local bars and venues here supporting the local music scene! Crazy to think there’s such a strong link between where I live and my favourite band Qotsa!
I’m so Excited to see them live in NYC. They are easily one of my favorite bands. Josh and Troy are guitar gods and I wish them a lot of success with this album. Sicily is favorite song from the album and I want people to know hahaha
I've been a QotSA fan since Kyuss! Saw them many times since that first show I've been (at Café Campus for Rated R -- I sadly missed the Foufounes one in 99). Troy is rad, great interview Jason! Cheers!
Hopefully they come to Texas soon. I’ve never seen them live before, only videos on the Tubes of You ha. New album is very hard hitting while also being very groovy, I love it. Great interview with Troy man! Definitely gonna check out the rest of your stuff! Peace and love 🤘🏼✌🏼

''It's the sound of support" What a quote!!
It's always a good thing to get a new QOTSA album! It makes us realize we're a bit older each time but also reminds us to have a good time.
How is it that all QOTSA albums release in perfect time. Synchronicity soundtracks of my life.
🤣🤣🤣
What a great album, a mix of known and unknown with touching lyrics! Carnavoyeur even turned my girl into a qotsa fan :D Thanks for the interview
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good to see the sharp dressed vampire

Amazing record and really good interview! Troy is badass
Absolutely Tremendous 👍

I still love art and I always look forward to seeing interviews with artists I like. LP release interviews, festival interviews etc. I still think this is a cool part of music release customs. Full 10+ songs LPs, rig rundowns, watching full concerts live or on RUclips, etc. This stuff still inspires me and I don't want to live in a 5-sec video influencer post-apocalyptic transhumanist dystopia.
The Armed played their Ultrapop album release show in Detroit last March. Troy was there and he played several songs with them. Amazing show. Hope to see him play with them on the tour coming up.
