Technically, both Hung Ga and Wing Chun share much, but what makes Hung Ga unique is the our strict adherence to the internal foundation training to weaponize the body (that is, develop not only military-grade resilience, but also military-grade stopping power). Real Hung Ga is mostly FELT...not so much seen.
For sure lots of Wing Chun in this one, the idea was Wing Chun Hung Gar synthesis. Watch the other two. The idea is use hung gar inside gate, wing chun outside gate. Many thanks for the positive comments.
Actually, Jackie is not a Hung Ga practitioner per se...he did learn some Hung Ga for the movies, but his base is Opera kung fu; his personal preference is Bak Mei. And yes, the famous Lau Kar Leung's father, Lau Jaam, was a famous disciple of Hung Kuen master Lam Sai Wing, and his mother was a Wing Chun practitioner, however, Lau Kar Leung only learned from his father. Of course Lau Kar Leung learned TONS of other things for the movies, but the Lau Family Hung Ga is pure Hung Ga.
Actually Jackie during his early childhood years was trained in Peking Opera which heavily and differently involves of Northern Style Kung Fu, Acrobatics, Lion and Dragon Dance, Singing, and Chinese Stage/Theatrical Make Up with a very strict, traditional, and watchful eye of the late Sifu (Teacher/Master in Chinese) Yu Jim Yuen. Alongside with Sammo Hung (Dai Gor-Big/Eldest Brother in Chinese), Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah, and other rests.
Think about Jackie in "Rumble in the Bronx" Jackie is most notably a Hung Gar guy, but if you watch that movie which I argue is one of his masterpiece, he use a lot of Wing Chun. Thanks for the nice comments I appreciate everyone who watches our stuff on YT.
Sorry, I knew it wouldn't get across right. A few people like to say, "ah that's Wing Chun, Hung Gar must do this or that" When the fact is Hung Gar has so many styles inside including Wing Chun, Choy Li Fut ect. Seems like you understand that our modern standards of the style like Lau Kar Leung mix wing chun and Hung Gar interchangeably in the movies.
very good mixed between the two southern kung fu style, which, I think, are two of the most effective and pratical kung fu styles!!!keep up good work and thks for sharing!
Blue note54 Would love to go out and do some seminars and I have thought about it, that's just a lot of marketing I don't have time or energy for though. Thanks for the positive feedback though!
Blue note54 I don't have the gym here anymore. Fargo isn't much of a destination. I'd take a trip to LA and work out with Gary Lam if I were you. Cost you about same in travel and you walk out of practice into the California sun. Air temp is -21 F here right now lol.
People hear chi sao and automatically wing chun. However inside the Hung Gar we have chi sao as well. If you watch my other videos you will see most of them are related to hung gar vis a vis hung gar. This particular video is wing chun hung gar synthesis as I think it says in the description.
Very nice Hung Kuen. You're level has become very high. You can come up from the super low stance now. It looks cool and is good to build your strength, but now you should go a little less low for fighting application. Your movement is obviously way past beginner level. Raise up a little to connect the lower body to the awesome fa jing you've got going on, on top.
2)Moreover, one of the greatest kung fu expert ,GM Lau kar leung aka liu chia liang, inherited these two southern kung fu styles! his father was a direct student of the famous wong fei huang!and his mother was from the wing chun school, and was very skillful! so as choregrapher, he often mixed the techniques jn the movies
ummm. do you know what mma is? its mixed...ma... maybe you mean bjj/muy tai/western boxing mix... ill take everything i can absorb and use, id rather not limit myself...
+johnny evil first off, you dont take everything, as most of it is pure bullshit that will only fuck up your actual fighting abilities. Secondly, kungfu is NEVER EVER someones main style in professional fighting. Everyoen comes in with a wrestling /ju jitsu / boxing background for a reason.
+ M E Obviously you have never heard of Team Lakay Wushu. They have are one off the most prominent MMA teams in the Philippines and pride themselves on training their MMA fighters using a Wushu Kung Fu background as their main style. For years they have dominated the MMA sport in the Philippines with their most successful member Eduard Folayang being ONE Fighting Championships current lightweight champion. True you don't take everything, but there is far less bullshit in Kung Fu that you think...

I really like these drills and applications. But I would rather learn in person. Do you ever do seminars?

Thanks for replying and for the advice!
Looks more like wing chun, lack of hip rotation and torsional power for hung gar striking, but nice, so smooth demo.
