Just because someone has melanin doesn’t exclude them from sunburn genius 🤣 just like being the literal color of a road won’t exclude you either.

Fun story... My daughter and I got cornrow braids (8 braids) to go on vacation. We went on the water slide all day had fun in the night I was like why is our head burning... Anyway a few days later our head starts peeling... Best believe we got sun burnt in the spaces between the cornrow. We black.
I’m gonna start by saying my husband is from Ohio. My mother-in-law came to California we took her to the beach, I told her she needs sunscreen. She told me I’m black we don’t burn. Needless to say. She burnt she had to wear loose fitting muumuu dresses the rest of her vacation.

I’m mixed and I would say all the time I can’t get sun burn but I did and it was horrible. Took months to even out my skin. Now I’m even more sensitive to the sun. I do not sit out and hang in the sun anymore😅

Even though our skin is more melanated, we can still get sunburned , unfortunately. I always use sunblock& I’m of a darker hue. ✨♥️

I don’t know any black person that has been sunburnt (personally) ! I can’t say it hasn’t happened though. Maybe a 1 time thing or something? But I did have my lips burned for the first time last year😂 it was horrible! As I’ve gotten older, I wear my sunscreen though!!

Yeah I’m black too, I live in NY and I went to Florida for the first time in years to visit my cousin and I got sunburned. I didn’t even know what it was at first, the skin on my back was pealing and I was like wtf. 😂 I thought it was impossible for me to get sunburnt.

Black can get sun burned, got burned in Cancun 4 weeks ago. We don’t turn red unless you are very fair skinned but you will peel. My white friends tell me that a tan doesn’t peel so it was a burn. Didn’t hurt though.

Be careful with that “black peoples don’t get sun burned thing” I said that at the top of my lungs to my white boyfriend in Hawaii the next day my shoulders were all itchy and bothersome. Omg im pretty sure we were on a cruise at the same time!!!! We went on Carnival!!! I saw the Norwegian boat and i was like OMG
My husband said the same thing, we went on our first cruise and he started peeling, he was like wth is this? 😂 im like you got burnt and now you're peeling. But he said it didnt hurt that his skin felt tight. Skin is skin it will burn regardless of how light or dark. It does take a lot more for darker skin. And for those who have never had a sin burn, If you ever been burn by the stove, hot iron or something like that. It feels like that lol.
