Hussein Zahawy was born in 1980 into a Kurdish family. He was brought up in London in a musical environment and was taught to play the daf (frame drum) by his grandfather at the age of five, which initially became his main musical instrument. At a later age, he pursued his interest in other Kurdish and world percussion instruments. At the age of thirteen, he was invited to join the first national radio and television orchestra of Kurdish music in Europe.

I use this excerpt for my class when talking about different ways to organize beats. This seems to be a grouping of 6 beats in which beats 1, 2, and 4 are emphasized through darker tones, beats 3 and 5 struck with lighter tones, and beat 6 is "empty." Are there any experts in this music (iqa?) that can confirm or correct me?
