    He was most definitely trying last year in my opinion. There was no let up once he secured the drivers championship - the same couldn't be said of Schumacher once he won the 2002 & 2004 titles with several races to spare. You could see how Max was seething whenever he didn't take a pole position last year despite his massive points lead. He was relentless last year to an extent we've never seen before and will probably never see again.

      2023 season is what the young Max Verstappen was talking about when he said to give him a car capable of winning races and we'll see. And in 2023, we saw how dominant Max could get if he was given a car that's not even faster than W11, but just the dominant car in the current season. W11 didn't break enough records but Max in RB19 did, and W11 was the fastest F1 ever, to this day.

  • @midas7394

    In Silverstone, Max proved your point about embracing the competition & going to the next level. As an F1 fan, you would know that Max was not pushing the car's limits before the last pit stop. Before the last pit stop, the fastest lap was 1 minute 31.661 seconds. After the last pit stop, Max averaged around 1 minute 30 seconds and set the fastest lap @ 1 minute 28.952 seconds.
    After the last pit stop, Piastri, on the best new medium tires, beat Max's fastest lap by only 0.204 seconds but could not begin to match Max's average pace, over the last 14 laps!!!

    • @kevintaylor921
      @kevintaylor921 Месяц назад +1

      ....the fastest lap was probably only that because of fuel loads and tyre management right? (everyone was trying to get to lap 25-26 when the rain was heavy enough to go to inters) but point taken max def has that similar to Michael and Lewis!

    • @midas7394
      @midas7394 Месяц назад

      @kevintaylor921 Agreed. 👍Most F1 fans forget that, in Quali, both RB cars discovered a major traction problem, which took out Checo & severely damaged Max's car.

    An elite athlete always tries to stomp the competition into the ground, whilst wasting zero energy doing it. In the end Max does prefer driving in front and I think that mainly has a strategic reason (clean air = clean data gathering for improvements). But as things are now, you adapt to being in the pack now. And Max has shown at Silverstone '19 he can race very closely alongside Charles Leclerc without any mess (i.e., wheelbangingly close without the actual banging of wheels).
    The statement is even irrelevant, but will be exploited by the naysayers that don't like Max. Some journalist asked Max the question, he answered and here we are...taking things out of context. In the end, the decision is made on the track and not during the press conference.

    Jim Clark was so successful in the Lotus 49 because he was so monumentally sympathetic to his machinery. That Lotus was fast, but also very, VERY fragile. Jim was the one guy gentle enough to make it last. I don’t think Max would enjoy his car falling apart every time he started cutting kerbs.

    • @salim_abid_
      @salim_abid_ Месяц назад

      Well sim racing is different to actual racing (in terms of physicality and what’s on the line etc)
      Obviously to win is a great feeling and to do so comfortably is great but I know Max and many other drivers love racing and when you’re just going round and round for 60 laps without any challenge it’s boring (we could tell from Max radio messages that he was at times almost falling asleep lol) and the same for backmarkers too, It becomes a data gathering session if you aren’t able to challenge those ahead and there is nobody behind which is equally as boring but much less rewarding.
      Every driver will want hard (and fair) racing, Every driver loves a challenge so I can see why he would like some competition and I can see why he also wants to win comfortably lol

    Like Horner stated I already had that feeling of diminishing returns. Other teams are quickly catching up, but I think Stella recently mentioned they are currently plateauing with their architecture. Mercedes will probably still have room to find a tenth here and there since they are seemingly only completely caught up on specific tracks. So perhaps current architecture within the limits of the regs make it so that we are almost at the end of extracting more performance for the current cars.
    So perhaps it becomes time to rip of the DRS to force drivers to plan their attack and not sloppily divebomb because of the 15kph overspeed since you could open your rear wing. But Max showcased you can do a switchback and divebomb at Austria T4 in the sprint.
