      You could hear it in Tom's voice when they ran the play for him and the other announcer screamed out "HE'S GOT IT!", Brady responded with a very soft "oh wow" and just went silent. Why that matters is that during game time reporting he is supposed to be as impartial as possible but you could tell right there he was choked up a bit.

      That’s exactly why this is a legit record. If saquon passed Dickerson, it shouldn’t have counted. How many extra yards would have dickerson gotten. If CJ2K had an extra game in 2009 he would have been the record holder.

      @@gingerpanter5895 You could make the same argument for OJ Simpson and Dickerson. OJ put up 2,003 yards in 14 games (an average of 143.1 yards per game). In his record-setting season, Dickerson was on 1,792 yards after 14 games and needed one additional game to break OJ's record (he had a 215 yard game in the second-last game of the season). If OJ had a 16-game season with his ypg average from that year, the record would be 2,289 yards - which is insane.

    The game could have been on the line, it a was a 1 score lead, and to throw a pass for a single player in that moment is a huge team win. They potentially risked their playoff run on that play. The Eagles coach needs to take a lesson from Bowles, they should have let Saquon Barkley go for the record too. Stuff like that is a huge team win and can bring a lot of momentum into the playoffs.

    Bucs did this for gronk to get a bonus too. Mike Evans isn't celebrated enough on a day when tyrek is shooting his way out of Miami that made him the highest paid reciever and gave up a lot for him. Tyrek left a perennial Superbowl participant nevermind contender for the "bag" while Mike Evans had good chunk of his prime wasted on QB carousel of mccown, Fitzpatrick, and on and just kept showing up and producing. I'll take a humble good teammate like Mike Evans over an Antonio brown or tyrek hill any day.

    Would Nick Siriani have just taken a knee? lol The Bucs recognized that their teammate getting a record was worth the risk of the whole season blowing up. Yes, maybe someone could have gotten hurt or they could have had a turnover and lost the game and missed the playoffs. Eh, odds are disaster wasn't going to strike so let's try to get our guy his record. His teammates were pumped for him and now they're going into the playoffs fired up. I'm guessing there are some Eagles players that are bummed out that they left Barkley out to dry and they'll still be thinking about it coming into this weekend's game. Ideal football karma moment - things work where TB and Philly face each other in the playoffs and the team that went for the record wins out.

  • @RoarOfWolverine
    @RoarOfWolverine 16 дней назад +1

    It couldn’t happen to a nicer player. I didn’t think he would get it when NO kept converting first downs and the clock was under a minute? I really didn’t think they’d get it back for Mike to get the record. The scary thing is because the record was for “consecutive seasons”, there is no next year. It’s not like the most TDs or the most receptions. Those keep going and you can add more next year, but if he missed this by five stinking yards, his streak would be broken forever. Even if he got 2,000 next season, he could never get that record back.
    I couldn’t be happier for any player, who is more deserving of history. He has a chance now to even break Jerry’s record and be alone on top. I hope Mike many more 1000 yard seasons. Somehow, somewhere, some artist is sculpting Mike’s bust for the Hall Of Fame. I think this was the only time I have ever heard them fire the canons for something that wasn’t a score? That was for Mike! Thank you Mike Evans for many years of thrills and watching you play at a level few receivers will ever get to.

    To the dude in the corner: there’s a difference between the Evans record and the Saquon record. The Bucs needed Evans to play, and to get him his record he only needed one extra pass at the end. Saquon would’ve had to suit up for a good portion of a meaningless game, and likely would need the rest of the starters to do the same.

    The sad thing is the huge name Jerry Rice is, but the name that Mike Evans has is not even close. It is because Rice is part of a classic organization known historically for winning, but Tampa is known for losing the most games in a row (26) when the franchise launched. Evans will be fortunate if he is voted into the Hall of Fame because the Bucs at least for the last five years have been a highly competitive organization with Tom Brady and now Baker Mayfield.
