For those asking, torque for the bolts is 60 Newton meters.

FYI the aluminum hub deal that has issues you talk about, there was a recall by BMW. Free part & labor for a factory dealer to install. My 2009 RT1200RT had it's replaced I believe around 2015. I was going on a trip & got service done at Engle motorcycle in KC, but they didn't have the recall part on hand! Ugh. I ended up going to Northern Colorado Power Sports in Ft. Collins, CO for free replacement and part. If I remember correctly, they went from an aluminum piece to a cast iron piece. Hope it helps.

@@MotoGiant Hi, The cracking hub issue only affected the liquid cooled RT built in 2014.There was a worldwide "do not ride" recall on these bikes. It was so serious that BMW offered the owners of these new machines,a full refund because the parts were not available to fix the bikes.
I final thing if I may.On your model RT,it is vital that you accurately torque the rear wheel bolts to 65nm.Failure to do this can cause the rear wheel to come loose quicker than you think.Bmw issued a safety notice to owners of these bikes,to ensure the wheels were on correctly.

Craftsman has a rebuild kit that you buy. It replaces the internal parts of the ratchet.

Well crap. I didn't even hear one cuss word. That must have been easy. I just learned (the hard way) the lesson you learned here. I wrestled for an hour with a stiff carcass tire on the big bike. Even broke a tire iron. Then gave up and took the wheel to the shop. $20 is easier.

Funny you say that, I DID look into it! There is an adapter needed, and machinist sell them, and I would do it in a heartbeat, if this thing was more utilitarian - but it is a FUN-MACHINE!! May do it at some point down the road, just to entertain us all with exploding heads :)
