I have had a lot of help from Autodoc with my 2001 W163-ML320 repairs. I see comments that seem inappropriate for this type of video. Think. How many Mercedes repairs are carried out by Certified Mercedes Techs vs just regular humans? These videos are better because they don't talk. Torque smorgue. If you do any wrenching you get pretty good at knowing the torque required for many repairs. Unless you really know how to use a torque wrench you may be better off just using good sense. Do you clean all bolts to a clean factory state before torquing? Replacing bolts that are basically perfect is a waste. Why build to a higher standard if all fasteners removed are tossed? Mercedes builds quality and uses the best available materials for a reason. My old Mercedes is lucky it has me as the mechanic, otherwise it would be pushing up daisies in a salvage yard. I'm not going to invest $400 to have my wheel bearing replaced. I spent $400 on tools to do the job correctly... like a Merc Tech. If you know so much why are you watching this video? Mercedes are not magical vehicles. I've seen some pretty crappy performance on many parts on many models over the decades. Lighten up. Take a breath....

Can you tell me how you found out the parking brake needed to be replaced? I have the same vehicle and it sounds like I have a flat tire while driving but none of my tires are flat, could it be the parking brake is broken? Sounds like its coming from the wheels. It just started this after I can through a water puddle yesterday. I'm confused.

It's probably the wheel bearing in the hub.. you could buy a press station at harbor freight and a wheel bearing, then press it into the old hub. It could also be your cv shaft, you can remove that easily if you're removing the wheel hub, both parts cv axle less that 100.. the press is a good investment like 120.. or u could have someone press it in the hub if u take the hub to them.. you could also buy a new hub with bearing preinstalled and pay 140 for it or less.

What was the problem did you find out ? Sounds like a flat tire? do you mean it felt it was banging as the wheel turned ?

Thank you for your feedback! Free landing of the brake drum should be obvious, it should be adjusted according to the circumference, so that the brake drums could be installed properly. Best regards, Autodoc.

Basically it shouldn't be touching the rotor.. give it some free space.. it doesn't have to be perfect and leave room for vibrations so they don't hit the brake rotor when driving.. and not too much force should be needed to engage the parking brake or the cable could snap, specialy if u have an older vehicle with corrosion. The little gear teathed wheel is what u rotate to adjust level.. Idk what direction but you'll see when u do if with a flat head driver.

Would it be possible to tell me if the parking brake needs to be engaged before attempting the replacement. I tried to replacement but cannot get the parking brake toggle that the parking shoes stretch and attach to. It is the metal piece that sits in between the long spring.

what Mercedes Shop manual did you read that from? Nor did you address the issue of proper torque and extra 45degree turn as per the manual!

That only matters if they are torx heads or obviously warn out heads. U don't need a specific torque, just stay don't give it anything over 100 and use thread locker
