    Sweet little Jake! I don’t think I’ve come across one baby who really “enjoys” tummy time. I was a nurse and now I’m a full-time Nanny. This is absolutely, 100% normal for an infant to be fussy for part, if not most, of it. They’re uncomfortable but at the same time they are building strength in their neck and back muscles. Once those muscles build up, tummy time becomes a lot more fun! 🤗💜

      If you're a nurse I'd like to ask: can tummy time be done lying on a parent's chest? In theory that should be more enjoyable for the baby while still encouraging them to lift their heads.

    After watching dozens of 'tummy time' videos, there is a common clue for when the baby's 'had enough'...they heave a 'full body sigh', and just flatten out. That means they're 'spent', and it's time for a break. ❤

      Tummy time is great for the development from day one. Just 5 mins 3 times a day at first then gradually increasing as baby gets older and stronger. Helps physical development and also helps prevent plagiocephaly. Tummy time doesn't nessesary have to be in the floor, it can be on parents chest also.

    Such a cutie. Frustrating or not tummy time is extremely important. You can help him like it with your face or a mirror or a TV or toys in front of his face at correct distance and eye level to encourage him to interact with someone or something for a longer period of time before caving. He has strong muscles so will do exceptionally well from tummy time. Love those rollovers. A lot of babies find ways to wiggle out of position or they cry a lot. But it must be done. It's interesting to see how it goes because some babies hate being on their backs.

    Commenters, until the 1990's it was very unusual for babies to be on their backs. "Back to sleep" is very recent. It was the norm for infants to be on their tummies because it was thought that SIDS was caused by choking while on their backs. We now know they are safer on their backs BUT they need some tummy time for muscle development. I agree it should be on a flat surface, but tummy time is not inappropriate or cruel. It used to be universal and the babies were content.

    • @junewhite6376
      @junewhite6376 5 лет назад +4

      Yes Linda c I agree. My babies were always on their tummies. I think it helped one baby particularly with a colic problem. That was in the 70s. X

    • @junewhite6376
      @junewhite6376 5 лет назад +2

      @cubomania3 I think that is a bit dismissive. Every child is different and parents try their best to find the right way for them. In this case baby was well able to roll over anyway and was not unduly distressed. Babies on the whole are very resilient. X

    • @SteRe0820
      @SteRe0820 4 года назад +2

      Scarlet8 Select NO baby likes tummy time, not until they’re strong enough to hold their own head up anyway. And trust me, it is not cruel, it is not torture! When people say things like this, it’s ridiculous; they have no idea what they are talking about! Babies need to strengthen their neck and back muscles and beginning small amounts of “tummy time” is the best way to do that. There are a MULTITUDE of reasons for why this needs to be done at this time. You wouldn’t want your baby’s head limp and rolling all over the place!

    Tummy time my dear is placing your baby on their tummy, not on its side on a pillow to try to make the world think OMG that baby rolled over at 3 weeks old. He was vocalizing his unhappiness at being placed cockeyed on that people and you kept asking if he liked it. Would you being a small baby half on, half off a pillow on its side? I'm sorry I'm sounding wry critical. Just having a bad Welcome to Monday moment when I was watching this.

      Why? Why does it matter to you what the mom was trying to convey. You just wanna put her in her place, huh. Does it make you feel good to set the record straight? God forbid this mother be positive with the baby... for later viewing with the child. Some of us want to set our children up for positive wins. I mean we need to with people like you around trying to minimize their achievements. Good job, mom.

      So most doctors recommend doing tummy time on a boppy pillow so that they cant hit there head on the ground or get there face stuck in the blanket or carpet. More over, this is not your baby and its not your place to tell this mother anything. It doesn't matter if YOU think the baby sounded hungry because you dont know at all if he really is because he isnt your baby. You are not a doctor or a nurse, your just a mom with a youtube account who needs to learn to worry about her own kids first. Get over yourself, your opinion is total trash, anyway.

      This isn't just to make a video. Tummy time is important to their physical development. Most babies don't like it at first, but as he struggles he's building muscles strength. What's good for them won't always mean they are happy

    This sweet infant is not even one month and yet his dumb boat parents are talking like he understands when obviously they don't understand how to treat a newborn. That child being mounted on that high pillow could have rolled off on the floor and injured himself. How can they stand to hear his cries for help. Why are they worrying about tummy time when it should be cuddling and bonding time with your baby. I couldn't stand to hear my baby in distress and rush to help. In fact, I never would have put my child in that position in the first place.

      Lmfao tummy time is not supposed to be comfortable and ALL babies hate it. Im assuming you dont actually know what tummy time is for, because youre clearly a lot more stupid than these parents so I'll tell you. Its so the babies neck can get strong enough so baby can support the head on there own and so the back of there head doesnt become flat. It doent matter if the baby is comfortable or not it HAS to happen and the babies doctor will get very upset if you dont do it. Hope you learn all this before you have kids so your one month old doesnt have a flat head they can't hold up.

      @Criss Robin Lol im gonna go out on a limb here and say your not a nurse. If you were you would be familiar with whats called ' developmental milestones'. But hey, anyone can be anything they want on the internet 😂😂😂😂

    • @aleahc1379
      @aleahc1379 6 лет назад +2

      @Criss Robin Considering im a L&D nurse, I actually am an expert. Babies being able to hold there head up is typically the first milestone doctors look for after the baby is taken home besides focusing on your face during feeding and reacting to things like sounds and light changes. These developmental milestones are the very beginning of helping to diagnose disorders like early onset autism, Asperger's and neurological sensory issues like the ability to feel pain as well as hot and cold. If a Baby cant hold its head up on its own by one month, there's a larger chance of the baby having motor and sensory issues in the future. This is all pretty basic stuff. Seems more like you're the one who needs to go back to school or find a better practice.

    • @aleahc1379
      @aleahc1379 6 лет назад +2

      @Criss Robin did... Did you just say a baby can learn to hold there head up by being picked up? Oh my god 😂
      People, always listen to your doctors and nurses and never some random person on the internet. If your doctor tells you something that doesnt feel right for your suitation or baby, get a second opinion but never listen to someone on the internet telling you how to raise your kids. All I can do is explain the importance of tummy time and why its so heavily recommended, the biggest reason being your baby being able to hold there head up on there own in the recommended amount of time decided by your doctor.
      As for Criss, you can keep typing until your fingers fall off but that doesnt change the fact that not only are you probably not an actual RN or even STNA judging by your lack of knowledge on even the most basic of post partum care, but youre also simply just wrong in what your saying. There is a reason children fall into percentiles when it comes to growth and devoplment and have milestones set in place, we didnt just wake up one day and decide to set these system's in place for no reason.

    Seems to me that 3 weeks is a little soon to be expecting an infant that young to be turning over. You had him propped on a pillar, which in itself, was awkward for the infant, and you even don't heed his first cries. What is wrong with you? You irritated that young baby. Shame on you. Sometimes, parents carry things too far. From what I have observed on some of these videos, some of you don't know much of anything.

    • @scarlet8select696
      @scarlet8select696 4 года назад +1

      @africansnowqueen Yes, and it is most egregious, to treat an infant of any age that way, when they are not ready to turn over. What's the rush? A child that young could have turned over and broken its little neck. The mother was asking the baby stupid questions, as if she expected an answer. Some people have no common sense, and therefore, no business with children. I wonder, after seeing that, if the infant is still alive. Seems to be it needs a welfare check. Thanks for your common sense in seeing that this was totally wrong.

      Tummy time is to be started as soon as they arrive home, 1-3 times a day for up to 5 minutes. Increase time as they get older. Just because they cry they are not dying. Just because you don’t like it DOES NOT MAKE YOU RIGHT. Tummy time is to build their neck and shoulder/arm muscles because they sleep on their back. You keep them on there back and never do tummy time, there growth rate drops and the pediatrician can call CPS on her.

      @@dr.amyanna9235 With all due respect, and I do thank you for your information, but would like to know where you got that info from, as from what I have read, it is suggested that tummy times starts after the infant is at least a couple of months old, as at this point, the baby can barely hold up its head and you have to support his little neck and head when you even pick them up. Please see some of the other comments, as most people seem to echo my concerns.
