A-Z GRAFFITI SLANG // MUST KNOW WORDS for anyone getting into graffiti!!

- Remember people some graffiti slang is not universal, so what I'm telling you here may not be applicable to where you are. Best thing to do is NOT take this as gospel but start learning the lingo from your location by talking and interacting with others. The best tips and tricks for graffiti don't happen on the internet
Don't forget to check out my previous on 10 types of graffiti
ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&vide...
Definitely a must to understand a lot of the definitions in this vid.

I feel like being a toy is like being a poser in skating. People who act like they’re good at skating and have a huge ego but actually suck. I’d skate with a terrible skater as long as their mentality is cool
I am new to graffiti and I suck at it. would I be considered a toy or does it also have to do with the persons attitude?
Should one practice A LOT on paper or plywood first b4 hitting the streets??
@@adevore1971 try paper for abt 2 days then hit streets but if ur using a bad nib marker dont do stuff such as wood
Am i a toy if im new to graffiti and i really wanna tag? I dont wanna look cool or anything
@@arthur-tt5wh then nah ur not toy
Does RUclips want me to start doing graffiti or something with all these RUclips recommendations?
Get ur cans
Yes, yes it does. Doesn't have to be any heavy involvement though, just at least grab a sharpie and hit up any bus/train you take
Yea man get ur cans
yeah, we need a fresh blood . someone who will make graffiti greate again
Rack some cans and markers and go outside. I promise you, it will be fun
im a fuckin toy
Same, i dont have the time to get good
@@luckyluke5614 then it just takes longer to get good, just dont give up

Weird flex but ok
I'm a square
If it’s your local graff store I wouldn’t support stealing there but if it was in Bunnings or super cheap auto that’s fin to me
What do you mean
I'm aussie also
For you Americans up top it's like a local parts store for cars houses etc

Getting up: tagging or catching as many spots as possible, in one night/day, usually in high visibility areas or heavily trafficked areas, within a single city.
Dang I just started graffiti and I've tried a few different styles and tags in my old sketchbook and I didn't think copying was a thing but now I realize it's like handwriting in a way which is pretty cool. Also I am a "toy" I guess lol.
ネズミ 尺 卂 ㄒ yeah ur considered a toy. it’s all good bc im a toy too
Hi, me too im a toy :D
Toy gang 👑👑👑👑👑
Toy gang!!!!!
we all toys but everyone was a toy at some point, just takes lots of time and practice and eventually you'll develop your own style that's good and that u like, don't get unmotivated by the haters just do what u love and stay consistent
One liner, that's new to me lol where im from we call them nonstops
Australian or oceanic slang,
We call it nonstop here in California
Yeah here in OC we call em non stops ..!
Philly we call it oneliner
@@semoskeart fellow philadelphian! im new to this and somehow instinctively call them oneliners.
Landmarks: a tag that has stood the test of time and has been rockin for years, or decades, and hasn't been touched since (buffed, capped, slashed, etc).
Me and boys did a piece like that shits been up for years some people tagged over it and their shit faded away
@@gummybearvitamins1211 some people just don't appreciate other people's work, like, unless they're trying to start beef you shouldn't tag over anyone ever.
Where I'm at landmarks and burners mean the same thing. I've never heard someone call a piece a burner.
Well... I dont even know the alphabet soooo...
Absetutely baller

ilegally stealing
a tautology...although I guess stealing something like...someone's heart, isn't technically illegal
Where’s toe jam.. ?. Haha..
I only steal my paint legally
@@user-xs1nh3hy5n same, I would never do anything illegal
In some countries stealing is almost legal so you're not totally wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for helping a fellow creator out. I love graffiti art it's so cool
3:41 hey that's the s-train in Copenhagen I remember my older brother taking me out for a quick run where I would tag the trains with him
This free knowledge is nice. Makes me wanna explore graffiti myself.
If its free knowledge you want, how about a bit of this?
'The longest ever recorded distance a chicken has covered in flight is 91.9m.'
@@Loctorak lol
you don't really need knowledge for graffiti though, just paint XD
Burner where I'm from always stood for a large piece that incorporates a character with a name. It's always a full color complete "Piece/Master". Usually large, (Storefront/wall). No trains get bombed here in NY anymore unfortunately. Great video! I'm subbing.
Yup same, cuz a burner is straight fire
How old are you son ..i started in 81 bring some of those terms in most of your terms ate correct but there are way more but good vid like it keep it up
I love graff slang! I’ve been saying rack since I was a little kid cuz my older brother writes but I didn’t even know that the term came from graffiti until I watched this video
4:35 Ahahah that’s funny, there’s a graffiti legend in my city called disk.
I think it says pike
Morgun I’m talking about the one after Pike.
@@shot9495 Oh ok, sorry 😅
Morgun No worries man.
Shout out to Europe and the rest of the world for keeping graffiti alive for so long

Nice vid my bro, amazing as always!
Where I live we call spots that can literally take you off the census (killed); "heaven spots". For example the side of a bridge or a building, roofs, ledges, etc, literally any spot where one wrong move can send you to heaven is a heaven spot.
Lay-up doesn't have to just be a yard, can be where a train pulls up for an extended period or multiple trains line up to pick up shit tons of people after major events .
Also, Smart,to never connect yourself with your tag on a public forum or arena. I.e. I may or may not write, where and what. No one will ever know. I'm just a guy. Keeps things cop free for decades 😉
Your pic looks like a dude in Miami in a vid on graffiti I just watched.. lol
Thats a backjump mate
@@Edfgt Not where I'm from. Been writing for 36 years. Different areas different slang different generation. But I learned from real old school

That opening was gold! I’ve gotta memorize that and use it as a test. “That’s what all the buffers use when they do their burners”
Yo that "aloner" piece was dope though...lol we've all been there everybody had to learn
trey kearns you’ve got to be fucking joking hahahaha
This was really interesting! Gonna help me out a lot
Thanks for using Bates and Atom One Pictures! Awesome !
Missed a few. Spot jocking, stainers, floaters, clean trains, racking, stamped, rollers, hang downs.. Well a couple of these you did cover but used different terminology. Guess it boils down to location.

Im having fun watching these videos
In the us southern California specifically we call chill spots yards and what ever crew claims it it’ll be called 767 yard or 025 yard
then what do you call actual yards? (like place where they store the trains?)
Yes g good vid broski
I used to hear guys using the term “production” when it was 2 or 3 pieces with matching color schemes and characters.
This video helpt me alot thank you!
That intro was amazing.
Climbing doesn’t always lead to a heaven spot but it’s a good way to avoid the buff
Wholecar... Atom One yes man!!! Dortmund represent
i know disk myself, that was one of his earlier works ,hes realy good now
Just wondering, but are there any particular unsaid rules in chill spots someone should know about? Because I don’t want problems with anyone...

Sushi Roll i thought he died?
1 liner can be throwie or tag,
DESTROY, to go out and have fun.
Did you cover "run up" and "lay up"?
I once knew a heaven spot piecer. Grump. His style was wack, but his spots were nuthin short of legendary. I once seen a grumpsta piece on a roof of an old factory, right on the pier docks, on a shipping container yard. Well over 200 feet up, on a 90 degree angle, nowhere to even step, he must have been a rockclimber in his spare time with ropes, his spots were never buffed cos of how hard tbey were to get to. Many of his throwys and pieces remaremai n even today. Some laughed at his style, but most were met with, but woulc you go up there? Exactly. Its weird, now thinking, Poor guy prob fell off a roof
What you write, i jock, all city, block head, tag ups, throw ups, back to back, rusto, hop the dee train, head down town, hit up some sweet spots in the day, jet back up town before five bump what you boosted, hit the rib up get fresh, spend some scratch and bomb at night.
This is really awesome
4:03 brah the classic Tribal shirt. Memories.
we pulled of our first rack today at poundland lots of acrilic markers :)
Why is it that some names are kind of made into a verb? Like Monk turns to Monker, Delt to Delter, Grim to Grimmer. Also a lot of people add 1 or One after the name as well.
Just to make the name longer to take up more space. There was a trend of adding "ism" to the end of names for the same reason.
Ppl add one to the end of names bc it's just a popular graffiti thing to do. But it originates from old graffiti writers in New York.. I'm just making up an example but back in the day this see a name like blaze 324. 324 was the street that his crew originated from. 324 would be the crew pretty much. Adding one was just a play off of that. And when having crew names became a thing ppl added one as like paying homage to that old cultural aspect.
Nowadays it's just done bc they've seen other writers do it.
Hello I have a question I am 12 years old 1 year Graffiti only in blackbooks and wanted to ask who had painted in 1:47 the so the graffiti writer of the 3d thanks for the answer: D
Thanks man your dope

SCRATCHY? DUSTY? GALV? CHROME? BANGER?

was pleased to see you put some UK graff in there tho
The word your looking for for that euro garbage is Pussy-shit.
Pussy-shit. noun// Euro biter garbage done usually by youth in country's that don't have guns that only do it because they saw it in states. Graffiti done without fear of being shot. "hey I saw that pussy-shit those euro kids were throwing on trains on RUclips but they ran off because the cops came and whistled at them"
E Sod I’m pretty sure you’re not gonna get shot for drawing graffiti in America 😂 art is art, whether or not there’s consequences. Graffiti was always used to speak out or to show art in a controversial way to generate attention. Europe has some amazing artists, you just need to know where to look.
@@stannos499 if you get caught by a pussy with a whistle you deserve to go to the play pens you guys call prisons. Brush up on your patty cake skills. You guys are just biting a culture you know nothing about.

Pretty much right except the term "burner" to me and people I know it means 1 of 2 things. 1 a tag scribe fill whatever that has been "burning" for a long time like a year or longer. Mostly what older heads go for instead if a Hollywood spot that will get more eyes but have less longevity. The ladder term is for a straight letter with a little more steez.
So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you chill with a bunch of toys... I'm guessing that you also use the you use the term burner as an adjective.
E Sod no to former yes to the ladder
"That tag been burning for like 4 years bruh"
"That's a burner ass spot"
I'm going to join you on that limb and say I have writes up longer than you been "into graffiti"
@@DanielGonzalez-yn2vi if your friends talk like that their toys. I've heard that spots been riding for years. I've heard that place has been hot for years (which is where the term came from I don't care what you googled) but anyone that uses the term as an adjective is toy as fuck. Period.
Read subway art there is only one definition of burner
Burner a piece of graff thats sooooo dope its on fire, burning the wall
When your not actually into graffiti but wanna write a fanfic and use accurate slang
Still subbed and love your content though!

hello my big problem is that I can't make up a good graffiti nickname and I always find it inadequate I invented eg Gos and could you please tell me your opinion on these nicknames
Burner??? Hell No.
A throw-up with some details ...
I’ve heard both, as far as I know it’s more of a regional thing. Here in Jersey we call good pieces burners. A throwie with some details is just a throwie with some details.
No disrespect meant, just saying.
A throw up doesnt have details toy.
A burner is another term for piece or a complex bomb
Fuk Youuu So a throwie can’t have a splash or some shines? If it’s got the bubbles it counts as a throwie dude.
I can never decipher graffiti but I like how it looks
