The music video for "Poor Old Dirt Farmer," from the album DIRT FARMER, in stores now. "Poor Old Dirt Farmer" (Tracy Schwartz); Traditon Music Co., (ASCAP)
This single and the whole Dirt Farmer album should have revolutionized Country Music back in the day, but since it wasn't about partying on the tailgate of a jacked-up pickup it was ignored. RIP Levon, you are still missed.
I hope it ends up in the Library of Congress somehow at the very least. Levon is a man that was even a part of The Right Stuff. Sinew of America individual.
Yeah, well they say the world goes around and around maybe someday it'll swing about a half of them off. I'm just glad that you only have to be pretty just to sing on the radio but not to listen to the radio. I like both kinds of music, country and western. And I've got nothing against tailgates or bar stools to sit on just as long has I can listen to Haggard and Jones and you know old Levon he can hold his own pretty well. There's still some good country music around you just have to look a little harder for it but I guarantee you it's worth looking if you love to listen.
One of the best comments that describes this man and what he did for music he will always be missed .....country music today is just pop disguised as country
As crazy as it sounds here on Long Island the Farms are thriving. Seems many are buying from the Locals. Of course many continue to buy from Walmart as that’s all that is affordable at Walmart wages. “Shopping at the Company Store”
What an amazing guy...I wish a lot more people could appreciate this music, not only for the sound, but what he's talking about, what he's trying to say to us.
I'm laying in the hospital now and starting to realize just how many wonderful people have been through the same time on earth and and I'd better appreciate them while I'm here RiseInPower Levon Thank you for reminding me it was never really that complicated.
My Dad was KILLED in a horrific tractor accident 15 years ago, and i STILL laughed at that one line....he would have LOVED this video, and Levon....AND that joke. RIP to both of em.
Sterling Smith I got to see him and Amy at Wannee Fest at the Spirit of the Suwannee near Live Oak, Florida. Never got to see the Band. The one group, I miss so much. Thank you Levon for the magic.
So this basically sends my love for Levon through the stratosphere. Nice guy, loyal husband, beautiful singer, kickass drummer, and of course alumni of my beloved The Band. God bless you Levon!
I've been a drummer on and off for about 12 years, picked up a mandolin for the first time about 3 months ago. Never played a string instrument in my life and I'm having a blast with it. Never would have even crossed my mind if it wasn't for Levon.
Levon was the heart and soul of "the band" he was the heart and soul of pure American art and truth. We all lost so much when he left.......wont be the same without him.I damn sure miss him.
I am only 31 but after watching the Last Waltz I am fascinated by Levon Helm. When he sings and drums at the same time during "up on Cripple Creek" I was an instant fan. Doing research and realizing he is still at it just makes me even more amazed. Levon your a legend.
God Bless you Levon Helm. I grew up on 80 acres that my great-granddad bought in the 1870's. My Pop was farming it but he died when I was a boy in 1963. I ran the farm myself for 3 years till went into the Army. Afterwards I got jobs in the City, but Thank God, managed to keep 23 acres that included the barn. I hope to retire back to it in another few years.
The good Lord must have wanted to hear Mr. Levon Helm sing again, because the odds of coming back from the cancer he had and retaining his voice are slim to none!!! Mr. Helm is an American original and a treasure! That voice man, that voice! So much soul! Thank God for it!
Dam, has it really been that long? I was fortunate to meet this icon when getting water from a spring in Northwest Arkansas. He was my neighbor when i house sat for some friends for a little over a month. He was the coolest good ole boy I've ever met.
🇱🇷 i still live the dirt farm i was raised on, i loved Levon in the movie "Shooter", & Coal miners daughter, his best song was the one about Robert E.Lee...
Levons' little chuckle when he's talking to Jack always kills me. RIP Mr. Helm. I was blessed with the chance to see you live before you passed and for that, I am grateful.
Weeded my garden listening to mr Helm.....and remembering waiting to get the last waltz at national record mart and listening to it......rest in peace sir.....and thank you....
So good to see and remember the true and hardworking American farmer these are treasures to our great land thanks levon for sharing your hometown well done rest in peace
4:10 Absolutely correct; you were taught to respect elders ; "yes, sir; yes ma'am". Then you were well on the path to being respected yourself by your children and your peers.
LEVON YOU WERE GREAT!WE WILL MISS YOU THIS YEAR AT THE KING BISCUIT.YOU NOW CAN PLAY YOUR GREAT MUSIC FOR GOD.WE WILL MISS YOU. LOVE YOU BROTHER ,BOBBY STEWARD,HELENA,AR
I first saw this man on Shooter, fell in love with the character he played, so rich. Then a week later I recognized his voice on The Right Stuff which I was watching with my kids. So I got curious....holy cow, the life this man had. I am ashamed I had never heard about him before, what a treat!
I moved to Arkansas in 2015 It's a Wonderful state to have reared to individuals like Levon Helm who's wonderfully talented man and Bill Clinton pure Criminal
I've watched this video more times than I can count, but still keep coming back to it. Love song and Mr. Helm, it speaks so much to what is happening in this economy, and you feel the emotion in Levon's voice. Truly great music.
You come up on me like a surprise In my younger days . Your music had a tinge of growing corn and raising cattle to it. Like riding a tractor and disc harrowing a field looking back on it you get a feeling of doing something right. Happy and sad at the same time knowing its all gone now . Both sets of grandparents passed on , ranch sold out for money old schoolhouse torn down where my grandma taught. The small farm the other Grandparents had the State took to build a highway . Pulled a lot of barbed wire drove a lot of tractors on both . Thanks for the music I owe you that much.
Levon, I miss you madly. You were one of a kind. Your ability to play drums, sing and act is amazing. I am thankful his music came about during my youth. For that, I am thankful. ☮️
That Killbros gravity flow wagon was built in Iowa!.....IOWA! My dad had several, and I spent alot of fall days on a John Deere Tractor bringing grain in from the feilds, to the bins when I was a kid. Song and video sure reminds me of home, especially the "nothing but jails" part. Thanks for posting!
There's something very musical about a drummer who also sings melody - he (or she) is the 'go' and the 'show' all at the same time and Levon was at the top of the heap. He learned his trade honestly, in the late night clubs of Toronto in the late 50s and early 60s with Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins. Oh my, the stories he could tell... RIP Levon, you earned it. Glen Parker Nova Scotia, Canada.
Director Jacob Hatley (better known to me as Branson) was my classmate from 5th grade until graduation. I always knew that he was destined for greatness, just never imagined it would be with my favorite musician! Wassup Jacob!! 😁
Glad i got to work for 5 years now with Levon up here in Woodstock ...Mr Gill is a true farmer and an even better true gentleman....if anyone is able to make it to NY try to come up to Levons for a ramble if you can get tickets if not then try to make it up this way on Colombus day weekend every year he does a free show at Gill farms..its a show not to miss with a few special guests every year
What a song! Fell off his tractor, got up under the wheel and now his head is shaped like a tread! how can you beat that line? Get to one of his rambles! Really good time, though some one dank most of my beer!
Some people would say what a rube and what’s so big about him? First he is no simple rube but he never shy’d away from his country roots and here is a guy who farmed, snuck on trains, very intelligent, multi instrumentalist which is rare for anyone to play any instrument where so called musicians are just marketed faces for corporate radio stations to oversatuate exposure to get every dollar from today’s entertainers and then on to the next. He starred in End Of The Line with Wilfred Brimley about two conductors trying to save their jobs and their friends jobs on the rails. Great movie. The back and forth with Richard Manuel his fellow Band mate on King Harvest gives me chills. Shit your eyes and it’s like your in the field looking to the heavens praying for rain. Great drummer and Mandolin too. He would rather sing for 3 years and die then for the doctors to remove his cancer by removing his voice box and chose chemo instead. That may seem selfish to his family but to have him around for maybe 5-7 more years if it didn’t return and see him miserable. Great job to the filmmakers for this production.

Well his tractor wasn't chrome, soooo. And no mention of Craftsman tools.
I hope it ends up in the Library of Congress somehow at the very least. Levon is a man that was even a part of The Right Stuff. Sinew of America individual.
Modern pop county is trash.

Levon If you saw what's going on after you passed, to this country it would break your heart like it does mine.
You mean Corporate greed! Billionaires buying millions of acres of farm land!!
RIP Levon. Thank you for making the world a little better with your music than it was before you
World?

Levon is one of Arkansas' finest....my heart truly breaks for what we've let happen to the farming community.
I enjoyed every time he was on Imus in the Morning. Great entertainment 🇺🇸
We have people like Bill Gates and the Clinton Crime Org. (among many others)
to thank for that. Bunch of SOB's.
You so right he was one of the very best
