I think with flowerhorns, frequest water changes are must as they eat a lot.
Same eating reason, they produce more waste too. So good & stable filtaration too is must.

Starving and feeding is the only best option.. you can starve for 3-4 days as well.. but under proper observation

I dont see any bio media in your tank also the oxygen is too slow. May be i feel its ammonia spikes due to no home for beneficial bacteria to home.
