    Notes:
    • Signs for a diseased heart;
    1. Preference to the duniya over the aakhira.
    2. The eyes / heart do not feel any tears in front of Allah (swt).
    3. A person remembers meeting people but cannot remember their last meeting with Allah (swt). (Includes those who perform their prayers).
    4. A person who is frightened of meeting Allah (swt) but is satisfied wasting time.
    In a way, Shaytan is a simple creature; he simply gives ideas around the heart and not inside it (has absolutely no control over us), yet immediately leaves when we recite dhikr. However, it’s our nafs that distract us when we are performing dhikr. Eg, planning the next sin whilst in sujood during Salah.
    o On the Day of Judgement, Shaytan will exonerate himself and distance himself from responsibility from everyone who followed in his suggestions.
    • How to tell the difference between a problem from Shaytan and a problem of the nafs:
    o An inclination to commit old / habituated / addicted sins are a problem of the nafs as they are not new ideas. Eg, inclination to commit sins in Ramadhan.
    • So how do you subdue the nafs?
    o Dhikr.
    o Get into a habit of avoiding the sin; Eventually the cravings will leave.
    • Shaytan knows us better than anyone else;
    o A Shaytan is designated to us since birth.
    o Knows what makes us tick.
    o Knows all of our hidden / secretive sins.
    • Dhikr repels Shaytan.
    • Constant effort required in repelling Shaytan and getting closer to Allah (swt).
    o Climbing to Jannah is difficult but rolling down into Hellfire is easy.
    • Create a home environment where your children don’t have to look for Islam and have sound hearts.
    • Utilise your time and priorities very wisely.
    • 5 things to cure the heart (cleansing and blessings):
    1. 100 x Astaghfar morning andn evening.
    2. 100 x salawaat on Prophet Muhammad (saw).
    3. Read half page of Quran per day (better to also learn and implement the meanings).
    4. Meditation by remembering Allah (swt) with His name 5 minutes per day.
    5. Taking inspiration by attending / listening to a lecture once per week.
    • Dhikr is not a paracetamol that you recite only when required; It needs to be recited all the time.
