    Comparing image quality is like shopping for TVs. You can see which one is better on a side by side comparison. However, once you get it home it’s doesn’t really matter. I haven’t been excited about any new Sony bodies that have came out. I have the Sony a73 and a7r3. I love your reviews because they’re honest and not pushing us to the new cameras.

The brightness and image quality of the EVF and the touch controls are very much appreciated also. All in all, Sony has done a great job with this camera. Thanks for your guidance.

      It’s best to set the aperture at f5.6 or even f8 if they aren’t sitting in a straight line if you have two people in the shot. If you want both people with a lot of background blur, you’ll need two cameras so each camera can get shallow depth of field on each person

    Hey Mark, I just got my Sony a7cii, and I noticed PP 7-9 are missing, but I am still able to customize a PP to Slog 3.
    Is there any difference between customizing a PP to slog 3 vs the “log shooting/flexible iso mode”?
    Or are they identical?
    When I compared the two when utilizing zebras, the custom slog3 PP clips truly at lower limit 94 (which is historically accurate for slog 3), however when I utilize zebras on “log shooting mode” they clip beyond 94 and around 100 ire. So does log shooting have more dynamic range?
    Are they both considered slog 3 or should is one more advantageous than the other?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis 9 месяцев назад +1

      There shouldn’t be any difference customizing a PP to S-Log3 vs Log Shooting. But there are some quirks like the one you noticed. Also, Gerald noticed that if you use flexible iso mode you can’t output 4k to a monitor but if you custom a PP you can. We told the Sony engineers and they’re aware there are these weird discrepancies between customizing a PP and using flexible iso. They say they’re working on it 😀 I should try to do a video on it

    What's your top choice out of all these for streaming _and_ photography? The 2k price-range, not talking about A7RV etc.
    A7iii ... A7IV? - Needs to have a remote option either over phone app or remote controller and a seeker for taking pics normally!!!

    I have an A7C and I was waiting for the new version to change my camera, as it doesn't do 4k60, but although the new A7CII comes with 4k60, they put it with a 1.5x crop.
    WHY?!
    We know that on a 33MPX sensor, it would generate a higher roller shutter, but we could have the option when using the camera in a static scene. The camera do 4k30 without this crop.
    I miss when I used Canon cameras and could use Magic Lantern to overcome these imposed limitations.
    It's clear that Sony does this to lock down features on certain lines of cameras.
    The A7CII could be perfect for me if there wasn't this 1.5 crop in 4k60.

    Hey Mark, I'm torn between two cameras: A7Cii and the ZV-E1. I'm a hybrid shooter, and I'm wondering which is the biggest downside of each camera. ZV-E1 photos only 12 megapixel, or A7Cii a huge crop in 4K60, which I have to adapt the lenses to.
    Which one is easier to deal with in your honored opinion? Which one would you choose?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis 6 месяцев назад

      if you do a lot of photography and you don’t need 4k120, think the A7Cii is the way to go. You get used to the 4k60 (if you wanna switch back and forth between 4k60 and 4k24 you can just shoot video in apsc crop mode on 4k24 and then the same lens can switch with no difference). They can both work, but the zv-e1 s really more of a video camera and it specializes in being able to use dual iso at 12,800 iso for lowlight and doing 4k120. but it’s not great for photos without that viewfinder or mechanical shutter and it overheats in certain situations.

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Is the electronic shutter on the ZV-E1 a problem with banding and flickering? I ask, because the sensor is pretty fast, shouldnt be as bad as it is usally with electronic shutter, or?
      I always shoot in 4k 60p, so im really not shure how I will get around with that crop indoors on the A7Cii. I never shoot in 24p or 30p. My eyes got used to that 60p look, hard to go back to 30p.
      And cameras with a slow sensor readout tend to look jittery with panning. The rolling shutter does not annoy me, but jittery and shakey footage.
      Would you get used to thr ZV-E1 limitations in photo if you would own only this camera? Or is it to annoying?

      the zv-e1 does have an anti-flicker function, but you may still see banding under house lights depending on the situation. Also, if you’re shooting a lot of 4K60, the zv-e1 will likely overheat after a while (probably 30 mins). The rolling shutter is much better on the zv-e1. The ZV-E1 can still take great photos. Great comparison video.
    Three words. Solid....State....Drive.
    Sony has been pumping out some impressive cameras this year. But, the one thing - as a filmmaker - that has impressed me a wee bit more is Panasonic. They dropped the G9ii which apparently has the best PDAF to date. But, the G9ii can also record ProRes HQ to an external SSD. Just like the S5iix. Having owned the BMPCC4K, which records to an external SSD as well, I am really drawn to such features. Recording to an external drive is a very impressive - and powerful - feature to have in a video camera.
    I'm not letting go of my FX30. It still punches WAY above its price point more than a lot of other cameras. But, Sony would be missing out on another demographic if they don't develop cameras that can record to an SSD. I know the newest cameras Sony has been putting out have concentrated on "content creators". And Sony has done a damn good job of adding high tech to their cameras. Like the AI assisted AF. But, Panasonic is no slouch for adding SSD support. I really hope Sony includes recording to SSDs in the future. They could really pump up their market share by adding such tech to their newer cameras.

    Why do you ruin your RUclips videos by shooting at 24fps? Who do you know who has a 24 or 48Hz monitor? No one. 1080p60 and 4K60 are the standard, and 24fps gets converted by RUclips top 30fps, and it just looks stuttery and bad. There is nothing about 24fps that looks cinematic, film used to be expensive and RAW takes up a lot of space, that's it.

      Most modern screens, whether TV’s or monitors, have plenty of processing power and response time to correct the telecine judder for any interpolation needed even if the refresh rate is not 120hz. I don’t like the look of 30fps personally, and most peoples monitors or TV’s never show any stutter these days. But I will take this into consideration seeing as it does affect some people.

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis But if RUclips is going to automatically convert p24 to p30, then what is the point of recording in p24? You're not recording raw or recording film so it's best to use the target frame rate. You're only fooling yourself, once you see the p24-to-p30 jitter you can't unsee it.

      there is still a different look to the footage when RUclips exports to 30 from 24 vs straight 30. check out Jeven Dovey’s video - he has a link to the same video shot in 24 and then in 30 to see the difference. He, like you, prefers the 30 because of he smoothness. I still liked the 24 better 🤷‍♂️

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yeah, the p24 video looks jerky. Look at the scene where the camera pans the landscape with the house. It's noticeably jerking. p24 only works right when converted from p24 to p60, but not p24 to p30. The frame timestamps don't like up right.
