The fact that tranq causes flesh eating disease and limb loss is frightening. Everything is lost: social, emotional, cognitive, physiological and financial functioning.

Helping could cause them to physically harm you. Some of them are severely mentally ill/addicted. Violent random strangers attacks and deaths are happening all of them time. It's sad to have to err on the side of caution, rather than approaching, but it could cause serious harm or even worse by just simply wanting to help.

I think that we have become desensitized because scenes like these have become normalized. The likelihood of being physically harmed comes into play as well. You have to be careful trying to stir a person who is addicted or severely mentally ill because it could have dire consequences. I live on the west coast of Canada, paramedics here would not attend an OD without police escort because they were being assaulted so many times by people overdosing.The police have also been assaulted and some of them very seriously. They have also been physically attacked by other addicts while they are trying to save someone's life. When an addict comes to after being narcan'd, they can often be violent. It's extremely sad and heartbreaking to see human beings become zombies like this. Our governments could fix this if they wanted to. Our countries look worse than third world countries. We have war on our own soils, which is severe mental health, addiction, housing crisis and poverty. Governments are heartless and soulless allowing this sadness, madness and devastation. To all those that are struggling with addiction, mental health and being unhoused, I hope that every single one of you have the opportunity and ability to escape that living hell. To the families and friends of addicts, my heart goes out to all of you because the pain and fear of losing them forever is always present.

I Hate seeing people medically needing help. But on the other side, they did it to themselves. I help them only to have themdo it again.
@juliejohnson5626 I am an HSP too. I literally feel their sadness, pain, confusion, and destitution. I feel greatly affected when I see people suffering like this. It's heartbreaking. A lot of them did not choose this lifestyle intentionally. What we see is a mental health crisis that has turned into a drug crisis. So many of these people have experienced severe trauma that has essentially broken them. Drugs are used to self medicate and numb the pain of trauma. Once they're addicted they are stuck in a seemingly endless, vicious, deadly cycle. The drugs that are being sold now are pure poison and so highly addictive. Fentanyl mixed with Benzos, and Tranq is a deadly combination. Withdrawal is horrible and months to years long, especially Benzo withdrawal. I've been doing a lot of research on Benzo withdrawal, and it's absolutely horrifying, to be honest. There aren't enough mental health or treatment facilities. Some of these people don't have family. I can't imagine being so incapacitated and hopeless and having absolutely no one. If I see someone in distress or overdosing, I call for paramedics, but I will not risk my safety and well-being by approaching to closely or touching someone. It's just too dangerous. A lot of these people are in a permanent state of psychosis with from drugs or serious mental illness.
There are a whole lot of souls on these streets that have been possessed, its terrifying what these drugs do. They open people up to all sorts of things, absolutely terrifying!

Most don't want help, there are Loads of groups there willing to help them, but getting clean takes work, and many don't want that. They want their next High! They get free clothes, food and other services from volunteers, and it only keeps them going to keep getting high. They can't be forced into recovery.
THe bottom line is you cannot get clean until YOU decide to get straight. It can be done, but you gotta want it. I've been clean and sober since June 28, 2006. So glad I left that BS life. It's really hard to do. Prayer's and God got me through it. I know a lot of people don't want to hear it, but worked for me. Find your way whatever it takes. Peace.

I visited Philly 2 years ago and drove through Kensington. I will never return to Philly. This place is a nightmare and no one cares.
