I have lived in Peterborough for 35 years and I like it. The Nightlife is awful with loads of restaurants but nowhere to go afterwards. It's a small city centre with housing estates all around it but I do feel relatively safe here.
Presumably you were cycling through the city centre outside the hours of 9am to 6pm ... or you were contributing in a small way to anti-social behaviour by ignoring the signs about it.
I'm a proud Petraburgian and have lived here for all of my 52 years but the city centre is now a shit hole and I avoid it all costs. Makes me feel sad to say this.
I thought that. But I was shocked to see no1 pull him for it or others. Typical most of us English, given up on caring hence why given a bad name and the city is all over grown to a mess (most not cought on camera)
Man I live here, I love it idk why ppl think its so bad, sure the sights are boring but if u live here ppl are actually pretty friendly, except yr 7s there always annoying
Not bad, you went past Peterborough Museum without mentioning it a couple of times, you turned off at the lights to go to the Football Stadium, when you were at the front of it, then when you came back round to the front again, no mention, it was in your right. Small terrace houses, in that area yes, there's a lot more to Peterborough including bigger houses, parks, lakes, different sports. Peterborough is a city of areas, many people live outside the city centre and as for riding through the city centre......all in all not a bad vid but it doesn't give a full representation of Peterborough
Ive lived in Peterborough all my life im now 54. In the 80s early 90s the town centre was amazing felt safe lots of amazing places to go at night clubs and bars like the wayward frog. If you had known the place then you wouldn't feel good about the place now. Full of cheap shops and to many coffee places and pizza restaurants. The people now are downright rude and thats if they understand you!
Peterborough is good to live, doesn't deserve the worst city branding. As a someone who enjoys biking its a brilliant base to some great countryside, if you bike from town center down the Nene West it takes you to the rowing lakes and Ferry Meadows, its a shame you didn't capture this as its the nicest area in Peterborough.
Next month I'll be moving back to Peterborough after 35 years in the US. I know that it'll have changed in all that time, but it's home. 'Worst Place' or not ;-) Thank you for this video. What fun to see places I remember! And, of course, lots that I don't. If you do another one, give us a location now and again, like a street name. It was difficult for me to figure out where you were. And, wow! I never knew a motorized bike could go that fast...so places flash by. It sure as heck doesn't LOOK like the worst place in the UK. Not every city has to be a tourist destination! I've lived all over the US, in places that are stunningly gorgeous, and in places where the poverty has to be seen to be believed. Home is where you make it, and I refuse to believe that Peterborough's the worst choice, or even close to it. Thanks again!
It all depends where you are. There are a multitude of beautiful small villages around peterborough within 6 miles of the city center. Personally I wouldn't live in the city centre again, just my dislike for city life.
Thanks for sharing. I am very interested in how it actually looks like, do to manny job offers on my domain. Now I know what to do, I need a place out of it, in the countryside.
Yes if you come to cycle around Peterborough, these are guaranteed things, 1. Broken glass on the cycle paths. Especially in the asian area 2. Thorns left after the shabby council workers cut all the thorned hedges , they just use a leaf blower to blow all the cuttings back into the shrubs . 3. If you cycle past someone on the same flat piece of ground that they are walking on , they will get bent out of shape over you. Yes the very same people who drive their cars , vans and lorries past pedestrians, young children and animals in their polluting vehicles at 30+ mph and will have the cheek to moan at you riding past them at 7 mph . But know this , if you was riding your pushbike along the road they would surely shoot past you , some that close that they clip you and not even give a rip about your life. You are a menace to them when you are on the road , your a bigger menace to them if you cycle on the cycle path . Its ok for them to do it to you with their car but its not ok for you to do it to them on your push bike. Thats the way we roll in this town. And there are some lovely people who live in this town and there are some horrible people who live in this town who spoil it for the good people. But happy cycling .
1. When you went into the one-way street at 4'36'' I was like "This guy missed the signs". Went onto StreetView and guess what?... No signs for vehicles coming out as you were, so no way of knowing that you went down a one-way street. Roads are really bad in Peterborough. Signs missing, misleading road markings and some horrible road surface even on major roads. 2. Have you noticed how people cycle in Peterborough? It's good that they signal maneuvers with hands (which you don't, but that might be because of cycling in London or simillar busy traffic). But cyclists in PBO have some bad habits (cycling on the pavement, reason to follow) and they don't really use their right to use the roads, because of aggressive car drivers. Car drivers in Peterborough are extremely bad in comparison to anywhere I have driven/riddne for long enough to form an opinion. They overtake cyclists extremely tight and fast, but also many other driving mistakes. I guess the reason is because it is obvious that Police does not care about road safety in this city. I rarely see police there (football times only). 3. You must have nerves of steel to ride with your tyre making that noise! Lol
Hey Yosif! 1. You are correct I had no idea it was a one-way street because there were no signs. I agree that the cycling infrastructure isn't great in Peterborough but it's pretty common in many other cities/towns. 2. There were not many cyclists in PBO probably because of the poor cycling infrastructure. I wasn't paying too much attention to their habits but cycling on pavements is a tricky topic...like you said it's dangerous to be on the roads and there isn't good cycling infrastructure to keep cyclists safe so I'm not surprised people choose to stick to the pavements. For me, this is fine as long as they respect the pedestrians and slow down. I think a common-sense approach to this is best (this is how the police approach it too). 3. Lol. I got home and found that my inner tube had cut through my tyre...
you didnt really show peterborough only a very brief insight to the city centre. You should have cycled through from the town centre to millfield. 1 mile direct cycle down Lincoln road.... then through the brettons then the country parks and back into the town.... you didnt really cycle peterborough.. You should of sought some advice first.
Good little shop. I use to come in there alot when my ex partner lived not far up the road towards the center. U might remember her, she had a big birth mark on half her face & arm. Lovely woman. Now married
Leicester is 10x better aesthetically and there’s way more to do/ more reasons to live there than Peterborough. I don’t know what the government of Peterborough is thinking but they keep building apartments here and not giving people anything to come here for
Mate. I think you just like bombing around on your bike, which I'm guessing is an electric assist, so not a 'cycle'with Jay in the purist sense. Peterborough has one of the best cycle networks in the country and, as a 'cyclist', you have singularly failed to use it! Check out the Peterborough Green Wheel. You rode into the Cathedral precincts, made one comment then turned around and basically repeated the same route. You rode past lots of interesting buildings without comment, for example the Guildhall. You need to stop riding occasionally, look around, talk to people, do some prior research before just posting this uninformative nonsense. Peterborough is much more than the City centre, and as previously mentioned, it's full of safe, purpose-built cycleways. You missed it! No idea what Sat Nav you were using, but you went on a long detour to see the back of the Posh ground. All you had to do at the lights was to go straight on for thirty seconds and you would have seen it on the left, just opposite the Peacock pub! I did have a LOL moment though. Come on, you can do better than this. Take care on the roads, love Pete.
You could of went straight over those traffic lights and the stadium would of been 30 seconds away to your left. You would of got a much nicer view of the ground but your satnav on the phone took you some really long way 🤦🏻

Shouldn't be cycling through town

well ur wrong
I liked Peterborough in the late 70's/80's
There used to be a great community.
Alas , no more.😢
You were lucky to not get done for cycling in the no cycling pedestrian area at the start of the video if you were there
between 9AM and 5PM
I thought that. But I was shocked to see no1 pull him for it or others. Typical most of us English, given up on caring hence why given a bad name and the city is all over grown to a mess (most not cought on camera)
Depends on the time - it could be after hrs when. You’re allowed. Normally you wouldn’t cycle down Bridge Street.
People cycle there all the time - security does nothing about it unless they’re blasting music

Knife crime has definitely risen in the past 5 years and theirs a lot of new buildings like the flats near the stadium
Hi Linda are you back in peterborough?
I still don't understand why it has this bad reputation, It looks pretty normal to me, even quite nice.
lincoln road type places are the worst parts
the best parts are the hamptons
