As far as predictable wins go, I don't get why Mike's gets much more criticism than Earl or Cochran's. Those wins felt much more obvious due to the edit, so even when those players didn't get immunity you knew they were never in any danger of not winning. Also wish this episode had more people enthused about the season. Both good guests, but after Bloomberg's excellent stumping for Thailand, it's less fun when there's not at least one person beating the drum about how whatever season they're talking about is TOP FIVE BABY.
Cause with Mike's fracking runaway freight train of immunities it was obvious that "well Mike is on fire with challenges, he's gonna win out and win the damn game"

I was surprised to see it so low on the list… but on a rewatch, I can see it. 1. Edge of Extinction 2. Worlds Apart 3. Island of the Idols 4. One World 5. Redemption Island 6. Thailand
This season ranked at #28 for me. A lot of the pre-merge is focused on setting up the storylines that enter the merge, some of them being Joe a challenge threat, Mike vs. Rodney, and people like Dan and Will being somewhat insufferable throughout the season. Even with those storylines being setup for the merge, the merge still found its way to be quite predictable. We knew Joe was going to lose at some point, but we probably didn't think that no one other than Mike could pretty win an individual immunity challenge. Mike's challenge run at the final stages of the season make for a good comeback story, but his mistakes were what got him there in the first place. Granted, most of Mike's moves make sense based on the fact that he was able to sniff out what was going on with Rodney, Tyler, and Carolyn. Mike just didn't always make the smartest move in retaliation, i.e. his move at the auction (although somewhat smart, wish he would've stuck with it). Also, Rodney is such a sour puss throughout the season because he literally did nothing around camp and expected to be handed everything in return, so it didn't surprise me that he lost the final 4 fire making challenge. Overall, this season has its moments, but the problem is so much of the pathetic stuff that happened with Dan and Will dragging people like Shirin in the dirt just hurts this season so much. Although I personally found Shirin to be somewhat annoying at times this season, she still didn't deserve the backlash she got from those people. A season with some good moments, but some more infuriating moments.
After rewatching WP, I think 35 is too low. I would probably rank this as 29 or 30. I also don't get the hate for Mike's immunity run. Would it really make the season better if he gets voted out and we'll have a Will/Sierra/Dan/Mama C/Rodney winner? I also want to point out why Phil was confused about Shirin voting for Mama C in the finals. Shirin did said in her speech, she won't be voting for Mike just because he rescued her. And she said she was more impressed by Mama C's stealthy gameplay. So she said she has Mama C's vote. Yet somehow she changed it and voted for Mike instead.
That's not really what happened with Shirin. If you rewatch the final tribal council, Shirin says that Mike doesn't have her vote just because of standing up for her...but she uses that as a springboard to examine each of the F3's games. She says that Mama C is in the running, but she never says that Mama C impressed her more or that Mama C had her vote.
Wow I had completely forgotten what a great season this was! I have rewatched most of the older seasons few times, but never really anything from after HvV. But if I ever choose one, it has to be this one. This whole podcast was just endless supply of all time great modern survivor moments that I had completely forgotten :D
I agree, I think I should've included Ghost Island and HvHvH. I think HHH was a solid season up until the Ben steamroll. Idk if the people that ranked the seasons considered that. I think it will be on the higher side of these 6 seasons I listed.
Honestly a little surprised this season is this "low" on the votes......what i liked about this season was what Jenny didn't like ironically. An old school style winner, in a Blue collar themed season works for me.... And then Mike wins!! Becides good old Tom, Mike wins comps to win the game!! Thats rare. Not Terry, not Ozzy, not even Joe who premiered this season.........No question Rob, Mike over Ben in season 40 and without a doubt a Tony side to him but slightly better at challenges where Tony was better socially. Simular for sure......season 30 is definitely not that bad. There's alot worse. AND YOU KNOW THIS MAN
This season suffers from a really unlikable cast. Mike isn’t likable at first, Rodney and Dan are unlikable throughout the entire season, Joaquin is... meh, Will is awful after the situation with Shirin, even Shirin is really annoying for most of the season, and all of the likable characters in the merge either go early (Kelly, Hali, Jenn), or are completely eclipsed in the edit (Carolyn, Tyler, Sierra) by gross people. I don’t remember what I ranked this, but it was low - lower than IoI on my list.
I know Will gave an apology at the reunion but then he tries to force Shirin to forgive her. “I apologize so now it’s up to you to accept my apology” and that was really forced. She has no reason to accept it. Really left a bad taste in my mouth watching it.

I thought the pre-merge wasn’t too bad. There were some good strategic plays, like Carolyn finding the idol without the clue and being able to convince the white collars to vote So out. I thought I was really going to like the season. But all the likeableness of the cast is out the window when the merge happens. Everyone was just so vile to each other and everyone had such a “know-it-all” attitude even though they were wrong. I didn’t like Mike much at first but he easily shone through all the unlikeable characters, and his edit was obvious. The sexism was a large pill to swallow, and it seemed like all the unlikeable characters kept voting off the decent ones. Definitely a bottom 5 season for me.
I like Worlds Apart but I can't get behind Mike's win, Not because I don't like him but besides his immunity freight train and him playing an idol successfully, he really didn't do anything else. Plus I just wanna say Mike's voice changed ever 10 minutes, I don't know what's up with that but I'm not trying to be rude but that got really annoying. Also I have seen Will's video of him dancing at a gas station that went viral on the internet and it's hilarious
