Geez. It only took me one Hour & 20 min to finally catch on to this Film's story line. Most of the time it felt like it was all about Klimt doing deep, regressive Psychotherapy on Acid. Then sometimes I thought, Jungian Dream Therapy. On Acid. Once I finally caught on, it all made complete sense. Now that I have some clarity, highly DOUBT I'll go back & rewatch the confused Hour & 20. Even though I was confused for much of the Film, I really did like it. For even beyond the Storyline, thought the Sets, Imagery and overall feeling of the Film was really beautiful.
The movie is dark, confusing, dull. I wish more of Klimt's fabulous art was shown in the film. I do not know if his life was so confusing and dark as this film shows it. Thanks for sharing the film.
The ONE thing they got right is the fashion and the women. It was too all over the place, we only saw him painting like once. Not my favorite, but I do appreciate what they did correctly. Kudos to John .
Okay I haven't finished the movie yet, but up till now i find it a rather imbecilic portrait of a great painter, despite a superb performance by John Malkovich.
First thing, many thanks for posting this. The film is bat shit crazy though lol. Hod did they JM to star in this I have no idea, it has TV movie production values at best.
obvio que a los gringos no les va a gustar este cine, como lo van a entender si aun no superan a los super heroes de comic y la pantalla verde. Klimt no es solo "Der Kuss"
It's in English. You just need to learn to speak English properly, instead of that illiterate slurred foreign shit you talk, because I don't need subtitles to watch a yank act, so don't involve me in your imbecility.
It started off ok, but then got more and more confusing. Did Klimt loose his mind? Where was the monk garb it was said he always wore? If it weren’t a class assignment, I would not have continued to watch it.
I might paint in the style of Michelangelo and caravaggio but my lifestyle is more like klimt and gaughan I assure you , minus the petaphilia and disregard for protection lol.
in those days it was syphilis which killed them, in this day and age it is Hiv that is the killer Std. So always wise to use protection in these times of decadence. What is petaphilia?
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NAKED & NUDE........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ..THERE IS ... N O.... CLOSED CAPTION HERE......ALSO SEEMS AS IF HE HAVING A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN...............????
Yes, it would have been a wonderful movie if it had been made in Hollywood and properly cast with a lead who could convey a bit more of Klimt's virile nature.
What a load of pretentious bollocks . In every photo I have seen of Klimt he wears a monks habit . Not one in view here . Film directors don't understand painters , but painters it seems serve as a useful projecting screen for a director's subjective projections .
What a pretentious, awful film. A chaotic mess, with horrible acting, a bag of cinematographic cliches, like broken mirrors, whirling camera shots...What a disservice to the master painter. I can't think of a reason why John Malkovich would be in such a lousy film other than that his libido was sparked at the prospect of being around so many gorgeous nude young women! The art used in the film was, for the most part, not original work, but recreations done by amateur film-artists. The scene where the first nude woman steps out from behind the screens with the mask oh her face and then asks him how he feels about her portrait is laughable, as the portrait is a painting by artist James McNeill Whistler, with the actress' face stuck on. Truly, this is not a film for knowledgeable art-lovers, or lovers of film, but was made for an ignorant audience which confuses sensationalism for quality. Hated it. Except for the beautiful women. And the colours of the walls in the rooms.
The fact that you can't understand it doesn' make it uneversally bad. All the things you mention as the ''chaotic mess'' or ''broken mirrors'', ''whirling camera shots'' are actually put there with philosophical intentions and they are artistically effective, then again you think they don't make sense because your rigid conception of cinema has limited and appropiated art freedom being led to beleive ther's only one way to make cinema. Ironically, that's the exact same thing Klimt had to go through as an artist when Viena's conservative critics and defenders of ''the good art'' tried to destroy him. Raul Ruiz is one of the most interesting film makers of our time, he had Malkovich at least two times working with him, not to talk about Marcelo Mastroianni or Catherine Deneuve. He wrote the Suspended Vocation and The Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting with Pierre Klosowski himself, that is, this is not hollywood or entertaining movies. What Ruiz does is proper cinema essays. You should really read more about cinema theory and aesthetics before getting your hands dirty and start hating on somthing you don't comprehend, damn you could even read Ruiz's texts, for example, Poetics of Cinema, which is not an easy text but it's everywhere. Good luck with that

It's a beautiful mysterious film.
How fortunate that the creative force can thrive despite human frailty. I wish they'd showed just a little more of the art though.
I can recognize myself with her Klimt!
HIS WORK WAS AND IS LIKE VIENNA ITS SELF TRAGIC HISTORIC magnificentaaa

Many weird things about this film but I love it.

I thought it was just me confused while watching but I guess that’s the point?

The most psychedelic movie I have seen.
You haven't watched "Liquid Sky" I gather...
THUMBS UP - Great Movie - I Loved It!!! What's up with all the negative Critics? Did they even watch this 🎥 movie?
I like it, but it needs CC, I can't hear or understand half of it.
I hope you figured out how to turn CC on by now. :)

@@indiecomics WHERE DO SEE CC...??????????????????
No cc
The name of the film is not "Gustav Klimt". It is "Klimt".
this movie is confusing and a bit dull. i wanted to see him thrown into his work and the process of his paintings
👁️💛👍
You can’t give the man too much time; for him to paint your portrait. But, you can give him plenty of mouth.
Si el film es hecho de un nombre Latino porque no se tradujo al español o subtitulada
Porque Raúl Ruiz vive en Francia desde la década de 1980. Nació en Chile.
Not sure I like the casting here. But a gallant effort.
no hay con subtitulos

After reading quite a bit of Cleo de Merode’s life, this movie seems very out of character.

What if Harvey Weinstein were a talented painter
He was not.
Crap movie

@@vincentantiguo I totally agree with you.
@@vincentantiguo And you are as pretentious as the film, and just like the film you try too hard to be taken seriously..
@@vincentantiguo Great response to a mean viewer. I love Raoul Ruiz cinema.
WTF. The worst movie I have ever seen in my LIFE!!!!! lol
