    As a child I was always impressed by my late uncle's Jaguar XJ6 which had 2 fuel tanks and a switch to select which tank you wanted.......2 fuel tanks on bigger boats are of course something normal, but 3 tanks I was not expecting..... Your engines sound brilliant.

      It's factory standard as far as I can tell although the 3rd tank is a little after thought ish in its configuration so I'm considering a replumb with one day tank and 2 feeder tanks and auto transfer. I need to research

    Looking great, nice cruising speed 22knots, my F37 with D4s 260 hp loved 21knots ,at 2100rpm all day
    Really happy for you ,
    Best of luck with her,

      She's really nice at 26 tbh but i'm more comfortable at 22 which may or may not be the best I need to look at efficiency graphs work out where the sweet spot is

  • @pumpkinboyk91
    @pumpkinboyk91 2 года назад +2

    Regarding the fuelling difference, if the gauges turn out to be reporting correctly and the starboard engine has used more fuel, the only thing I can think of if the boat is needing a bit of continuous right rudder to stay straight is that maybe there is some imbalance between the prop efficiencies - maybe due to damage or something? It would certainly make sense if the starboard engine is drinking more fuel than the port engine to stay at the same RPM, that maybe it's working harder/producing more thrust than the port side. Which in turn could be causing the need for the extra right rudder. Just a thought! :) Either way, sounds like she's running sweet! :D

    • @DavesBoat
      @DavesBoat  2 года назад +2

      Props are like brand new I checked before it went in the water so not the props, i'm putting the rudder angle down to misalignment between the gauge and the actual real angle although you may be right I don't know until I fix it.
      It should be using the same amount of fuel as same rpm, same throttle position i can't imagine one just deciding to pull more fuel although you could be right I doubt it, I suspect more likely the sender in the port tank is up the duff and not reading or the sender in the starboard tank is up the duff and over reading. I'll pop the senders out check their wiring and run a resistance check across their movement to confirm they're both reading right/on same scale. Quick check first though is fill up all the tanks as none are reading full so just fill them all and see if all gauges increase. if thats the case then i think next trip out i'll run the starboard engine from the 3rd tank rather than the starboard tank and see if it drains that one as fast that should help me narrow down the problem.

      @pumpkinboyk91 2 года назад +2

      @@DavesBoat you're most likely right that it'll just be a gauge or sender issue. I don't think I've ever known a boat to have all the gauges working correctly at once! 🤣 and yeah, the engines wouldn't use more juice than the other at the same RPM unless the props were mismatched or one was damaged, so since you said they're all good it likely is just a gauge thing

      @@pumpkinboyk91 I was quite lucky on SJ apart from the bulbs and lcd's the actual gauges all worked fine. On the upside I have worked out how to get access to the back of mine on the downside my arm is too big to fit in the gap 🤣

    Just recently subscribed to your channel although I have been checking out your videos for a while now. An S43 (or 41 or 42) is most probably top of my list for purchase later this year having sold my Bayliner 285 in Jan 2021, so am really interested to see how you get on with it and any maintenance issues you have, as I have nowhere near your knowledge and expertise but want to learn more. The videos are great. Keep them coming!

    Beautiful boat Dave. Ah but the clouds reflecting off the muddy water of the Humber estuary does not do her justice, time to migrate her south maybe.

    • @DavesBoat
      @DavesBoat  2 года назад +3

      Really doesn't :( I keep toying with the idea of moving her to nicer locations but i don't fancy the 6 hour drive to the south coast or the entire day of travelling to get to her in the med :( I like just being able to finish work at 6pm be at the boat by 7 out by 8 for a couple of hours then home by 11 ready for work next day.

    Hi watching from New Zealand. Question why is the water brown ? is it like that everywhere in the Uk ?
    something I've never seen here in the ocean :)

    • @DavesBoat
      @DavesBoat  2 года назад +2

      The river is actually called the Humber Estuary ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humber ) down towards its source at trent falls its very brown and known locally as the chocolate river. When you get closer to the sea at spurn point and out past our marina at Grimsby it starts to go a clear green colour before coming much more clear further out.
      The bed of the river and the coast in this area is sand/mud so the river churns a lot of this up. It is I believe one of the most frequently changing depth bits of water in the UK due to its flow rates and how much mud it transports around the place.
      If you look for an older video of a trip out in Sally Jane where we go out to spurn you can see it being clear water there.
      No its not like this everywhere in the UK infact if you watch videos from ruclips.net/user/TheFishLocker you'll see it distinctly blue and clear for many meters down.

    Do you know what sort of fuel consumption you are getting?

      I don't unfortunately at the moment as I think I have at least 2 sender's that aren't working properly I just brimmed all 3 tanks one tank that was showing 3/4 full tool 360 litres another tank that was showing 1/4 full only took about 10litres before it backed up on me gauge still not showing full so I think at least 2 sender's are shot

    Did you ever sort out your fuel gauge issues ?

    • @DavesBoat
      @DavesBoat  2 года назад +1

      Not 100% confirmed yet but I'm fairly sure like 99.9% that it's blocked breathers on 2 tanks coupled with someone's fiddled with the return pipework previously and got 2 tanks crossed over. Which is why one tank was draining faster than other 2 and we couldn't get 2 tanks full and it just coughed out.
      There's still some work I need to do like unblock the breathers but I did manage to get all 3 tanks full and I'm pretty sure I've got the returns fixed now.
      Just having some family issues right now so unfortunately I haven't been to the boat or been out on it in quite a while now

      @@robertmackenzie5850 fingers crossed.when I do get chance I can unblock the breathers and then get all 3 tanks brimmed then I can actually start doing consumption tests and working out flow rates for feed and return fr each tank then I can work out of the gauges are wrong or if there's anything else afoot (will also allow me to calculate accurate range figures)
