  • The traditional celebration of Imbolc in Wellhouse Lane, Glastonbury. On the first day of pagan spring the young Bridie takes the new light into the darkness of the White Spring. Everyone then emerges from the building to celebrate in the street with poetry, music and prayer. The waters from the White Spring and Chalice Well are mixed and the group processes with the new light and water through Monk's Gate to the wellhead in Chalice Well. Thanks to Mikesey for the filming. Videos from other events may be obtained from his channel: / mikesey1

This was the Pagan festival of Imbolc - the first signs of life following the winter standstill. On the Tor on Saturday would have been the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids having an early Summer Solstice event. They also come to Glastonbury at Winter Solstice.

Bridget - whom the Romans identified with Minerva (Greek Athena, also an archaic pre-Hellenic solar deity), Bridget the sun goddess, Lady of Fire, sister to Sulis; Bridget's pagan festival Imbolc christianised to Candlemas , thus the tradition continues ironically, after all the persecution, Bridget (many spellings possible), Brythonic Sulis, the Virgin Mary and distant Saule the Lithuanian sun goddess who still gazes down upon the human race and is linguistically related to the name of Sulis.
