Just FYI, the Underworld in Greek mythology isn't Hell. Hell is a Christian concept. In Greek mythology, everyone goes to the Underworld, which is composed of different parts - heroes go to Elysium (paradise), evil souls to the Fields of Punishment, and the majority, who are neither good nor bad, to Asphodel. Tarturus, as you noted, is under the Underworld, and is where monsters are dispatched to. As for Porcrustes, he was indeed a murderer of travelers, who coaxed them onto a bed, and to make them "fit," would either stretch them with chains or lop off their heads/feet. That's what Annabeth is referring to when she says "you're lucky we're letting you keep your head."

What I love about this episode is how it highlights that Poseidon really wants to be part of Percy’s life, but is obligated to stay away from him. We also see that lesson about how looks can be deceiving as most assume Hades is an envious and villainous god but is actually quite the opposite as he only wants to be free of family drama and his rightful property restored. The moment Percy has to make the choice to leave his mom for now is so much impactful as you remember the last words of the prophecy: “And you shall fail to save what matters in the end.” Can’t wait for the season finale!!!

I have a love hate relationship with this episode.
I love the scene between Sally and Poseidon. How that scene was made and executed, the interaction was not in the book by the way. But it gives so much to the characters and to the viewers.
But I hate how Hades was Portrayed. I get that we want to challenge expectations and stereotypes. But Hades isn't that. Not to be that person again, but in the books Hades is the first god whom Percy sees and feels as a god. Like the impending power of a being so powerful that it stuns you. And Hades isn't one of the big three for nothing. I wanted even a shadow of that strength from the portrayal but I didn't get it.
Now some clarifications, someone has already mentioned the whole hell vs underworld so there's that. Also, Hades' helm of darkness isn't just another invisibility cap. Annabeth's cap just makes you invisible, you are still a tangible thing. The helm is Hades' symbol of power, like the bolt is to Zeus. It allows him to become darkness itself. It makes him absolutely hidden from everything. And it allows him to move between points of darkness fluidly.
Also, gods can't steal each other's symbols of power themselves, so no, Ares couldn't have stolen the helm, or the bolt.
And fyi on Kronos, Kronos was the father to Zeus Poseidon and Hades. The ruler of the world in the era of the Titans, before the gods. He is the lord of time. It took all of the gods together to defeat him once. So resurrection big bad.
