This government is so out of touch with its people, maybe boris should freeze all his assets and live for 1 month on universal credit in a council flat.

As global food supplies chains are getting less and less secure and import more expesive due to rising fuel prices
subsidies for farmers in UK are being reduced by Tory goverment and those newly introduced promote rewilding the farmland (planting willow trees and digging ponds) instead of food production.
As Brexit red tapes are cutting legs of british farming we are now importing more food than before Brexit
In the meantime the other European countries increase their support for their local farmers to promote local food production and improve sustainability of their own internal food markets

    • @wokevirushandsanitzer5300
      @wokevirushandsanitzer5300 2 года назад

I think it’s more of a lack of farmers problem.
If those migrants we’re about to deport to Rwanda are so desperate to get in here we should put the to work on the farms.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable. The government could pay them and we get increased food production in return😂.

Supermarkets can guarantee supplies from the EU as they have lorry drivers.
UK meat farmers cannot get lorries to take animals to abattoirs , and if they could there are not enough butchers anyway.

Of course the EU increases support for their own farmers - they're the most protectionist agricultural market on earth. The EU lives in constant fear of actually competing with the rest of the world, which is why all of their trade deals have to take decades and are extremely limited.

I would say that, on the whole, I am very much in favor of policies that will help to protect the environment. But, since as a disabled person, I have to try to survive on about half of the national living wage, and usually don't manage more than one meal a day, often with at least one day where a few cups of tea and four slices of toast are my limit, that the environment is very, very low on my list of priorities.
The sooner the government come to realise that the environment will never mean much to people who cant afford to eat, the sooner they will get backing for their environmental policies, such as they are. As for taxing sugar and salt, they might want to consider that most of the food that is affordable for those of us struggling to survive is packed with the stuff, the sooner they might realise just how many of us are in food poverty, right this moment.

Hardly worth starving all humans to death to 'save the planet', especially as the policies won't do what they say it will. Same with energy policy...

    • @fromthedumpstertothegrave3689

Thing is the government doesn't give a single fig about the environment. They'll pull the "its up to the consumer to vote with their wallet!" Like we're being given some amazing capitalistic democracy to decide our fate, when in reality people can't afford to prioritise the environment over staying alive. Then all the government needs to do is go 'well, we fave the public the choice, numbers show they're just not into the environment!'
Edit: in theory I agree with taxation of sugar and salt. But people are in for a pretty rude awakening when they realise that doesn't just mean 'crisps and sweets'

I object to the government using such an advisor. This guy does not represent the industry or the customer, but rather his own sustainability politics which he has business interests in, and he is also tied in with the media and Johnson's previous employer the Daily Telegraph and was at school with Rees-Mogg. He is too close to the elite in this country and as such would be second-rate advice. It's a 'who knows who' circle he operates in.

Brexit should have been a boost to British framing to produce good quality cheaper food for the British table and even export as fine quality food. Instead the first priority of the Government under pressure from global agri-business, to introduce GM food such as tomatoes, which the public don't want, whilst importing huge quantities of food from abroad for sale in supermarkets as fresh produce. It's another sell out to globalisation.
