There's a difference between a permanent ceasefire which requires both sides to cease hostilities indefinitely and a temporary, humanitarian ceasefire. The latter is something Bernie Sanders has called for, David said he was aligned with that position.

You are right that we do support our allies, but just consider Ukraine. Our aid to them has been strictly conditioned on not striking the civilian population in Russia. Even though the artillery and munitions we've given them could easily strike across the border; we have stopped them from doing so.

My thought a month or two ago as was to cut their funding until they change their military tactics from indescriminate bombing to more pinpoint approaches... but the damage has already been done. We shouldn't fund them at all at this point.

That’s the key detail that these people always ignore. They want to talk about hamas in the present state and paint Israel like these victims, but the reality is none of this shit ever would have happened if they had just left the Palestinians alone in the first place.

The fact that David is even pretending to entertain the fact that the motivation of Netanyahu and his government is solely about the release of the hostages, is duplicitous on its own. I've been a website member for a few years now, but David wants credit for condemning Netanyahu, but also wants to justify his actions by giving him a benefit of the doubt that he'd never allow Trump or the Republicans. That in itself discredits his credibility across the board to some extent as far as I'm concerned. He basically doesn't want to take a definitive enough position to be held to, but then also to play victim when people rationally attribute one to him based on what he will say. It's the same tactics he himself would call out in others, but feels are completely legitimate for himself. I don't think the guy is suddenly evil, or that all credibility is now shot, but it's definitely hypocritical, and does leave everything else open to question.

The current Israeli government has offered Hamas a ceasefire in exchange for hostages half a dozen times and Hamas has rejected all of them.
Past Israeli governments have offered a two state solution that would give more than what the "Palestinians" have now but Arab leaders rejected it, invaded, and got their collective asses kicked in a war of conquest they started.

I am not exactly sure what would be the problem to exchange 10 to 1 or even 20 to 1 hostages. What is the risk of releasing 3000 people from Israelis prison to Gaza?
Technically speaking, we do not have an "open border" but in reality, the Biden Administration has bypassed immigration laws on the books that were passed by Congress, in order to come up with it's own priorities, completely undermining U.S. immigration law (Totally not Presidential overreach). What this means in actuality, a miniscule amount of encountered migrants are deported from the U.S.- numbers wise, in fiscal 2023- only 5% of encountered migrants were deported.
Now, if only about 5% of migrants are deported annually, this is only of migrants BP and CBP have encountered, not to mention the large portion of overstays that got unchecked. Under Biden's "catch and release" meaning an illegal immigrant is encountered at the border, given paperwork to report to a local ICE office and released into the U.S., roughly 80% are not checking in with ICE and disappear into the U.S., unvetted and unscreened. Not exactly the rule of law you want to prevent terrorists, criminals, cartels and political spies from infiltrating into our country.
Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. are NOT asylum seekers, they are simply economic migrants and have no legitimate claims to asylum, fear at returning to their country based on political/religious persecution, etc. It's not rocket science on why people come here. There are plenty of banana republic, war torn, corrupt countries in Latin America and Africa, and those will remain for the foreseeable future, which will be nearly impossible to change by our own will, so you have to strengthen your immigration laws, secure the border and put a fire under the Mexico's ass to play their role.

I think the best proof that a border that allows zero illegal crossings is impossible is the German democratic republic and "the wall". David in a tough spot here. Good on the caller for pushing him for an answer, and also good on David for fearing this call on his RUclips channel. But he clearly seems to realize most of his fan base wants Palestinians to be free but at the same time doesn’t think Israel is committing genocide - which they very clearly are. I know he grew up Jewish and is now an atheist (I think), but that bringing sometimes is hard to shake no matter how far you are removed from the religion later in life, just ask Sam Harris.

The problem that this caller just brought to my attention (something I had honestly not noticed before) is that yes. David is trying a lot to distance himself from this subject, probably because he sees that his position is a strange one to have on progressive side.
Notice how in his replies he went back to mention specifically hamas and that they've said they don't wanna stop, totally not acknowledging the fact that Israel is arguably a lot worse. Israel has so far killed 30k+ people in Gaza, almost all of which are innocent civilians while according to their numbers, Hamas is approximately 30-40k total. They bomb AND demolish schools, homes, hospitals and UN buildings among others and claiming ALL of those were used by hamas. IDF is constantly uploading on their tiktok or telegram videos of soldiers harassing civilians as well as having a laugh inside people's houses just wrecking things. Israeli government officials and leaders have also said that they will not stop until every Palestinian is dead. They WANT a genocide and they've said so a few times.
US on their side is single handedly vetoing any effort by the UNSC to do ANYTHING, while we keep giving money in aid and weapons to Israel. While US officials are trying to hide that this is an attempted (and so far working out) genocide, Israeli officials are openly admitting it.

And, the UN courts also didnt declare it a genocide, so it really is people like you, making that argument.

I think the war in Ukraine and the conflict in Gaza are inexorably linked, as is the push of "genocide" used to describe the Gaza conflict instead of Ukraine. Which is orders of magnitude worse. Or the lack of concern with Darfur, which is literally and accurately a genocide going on right now.
I don't think any of that is coincidental. I think Russia is better at PsyOps than the US is with its domestic population. We should have taken critical thinking more seriously in our education system over the last 50 years.

I've always been a fan of you David since High School, but when I hear you talk about this war, I only feel extreme disappointment. We haven't learned anything from 9/11 and it's a damn shame. I hear a lot of right wing talking points with this subject coming from you. And when we hear right wing talking points, it's usually based on scape goats and deflection. Its okay to be skeptical about Hamas offer, but there is a way of knowing if they are genuine,which is history, this isn't the first time Hamas has agreed to ceasefire with Israel and in all agreements Hamas has always honored the terms of ceasefire, on the other hand Israel has always violated them.
Historically the side that has consitently violated ceasefire terms is the side Pakman seem to trust. Clearly he doesn't know the history, and that is why he can lie confidently.

The Palestinian portion of the land is what 20% of what it started with. And that portion severely limits water rights for them. In addition, what comes when a fully economically developed nation such as Isreal is next to an underdeveloped Palestinian? As I stated I actually first heard about this from an Arab Palestinian scholarly article.
That idea comes from Edward Said, a Palestinian literary theorist who wrote “Orientalism”. Hes one of the most influential thinkers in modern times, especially in the social sciences. He’s brilliant, but that idea would never work. Neither side would accept it. It would defeat the entire point of why Israel was founded, which was to be a Jewish state, so that the Jews could be a free people in their historical homeland. The Palestinians would never agree because they would have to integrate into a society where they would be at a distinct disadvantage socially, politically, economically, etc. Too much has happened, too many have died. The only realistic solution is a two state solution.
Thank you @Starcatt966 for explaining why it can't work to OP. I was only mocking the idea because... well... Israel was designed to be a Jewish Ethno-state. This is why Camp David failed... as Israel didn't want more than a handful (compared to the hundreds of thousands kicked out of their homes) of displaced Palestinians back into Israel... It also failed because the way it was a "take it or leave it" proposition... when Israel was still in breach of previous agreements... and Israel stated "this is the last agreement we'll ever make." No mention of reparations for all of its heinous acts... no possibility of further negotiations... on top of that, Israel would be the only military power allowed in Palestine.
Sure, in a rational world, Israel's SS would have been disbanded and its adherents would be sent to Hague for trial... but... that's something Israel will never accept.
