Roots Classic 2023: The Best New Old VW Show in the USA

- Making the trek east for Roots Classic 2023, the best new VW show in the USA (in the beach town of Wildwood, NJ), stirred all kinds of emotions inside me. Made me feel all the feels. Even inspired me to bring back the old VW wall calendar (buy it at bit.ly/VW24).
Roots Classic ticked all the boxes for a great weekend. The team behind the event and associated GTGs throughout the weekend did a spectacular job of scheduling, permitting and hosting the hundreds of cars and thousands of folks that took over Wildwood, NJ for the weekend, and the vibe was much like an early H2O International weekend-before the riff-raff.
tl;dr you need to go next year!

Funny...the Jetta at 4:22 has a german "Kurzzeitkennzeichen" (i would translate it as "short term license plate") from my hometown Aurich. Usually you purchase them to drive an unregistered car from A to B without having to go through the whole registration process. They expire after a couple of days (the one in the video on 12. November 2011). If i recall correctly the owner of the Jetta (i´ve contacted him after seeing a video of this car some years ago) bought a used bumper from a german seller and that came with the already expired Kurzzeitkennzeichen. Nice to see it is still around and maybe the best in existence, apart from a new one.
I lived in the US and having a Euro lincence plate on a European car is considered as a cool thing overthere. They doing it with Saabs and Volvos too. Getting an expired Swedish license plate onto the front in thoes states where they only have plates on the back. In the vw community people love to converting their cars onto Euro versions because they just much nicer here in Europe than overseas. They have ugly headlights, stupid safety belts system ,ugly bumpers and higher ride height. Not to mention the drivetrain selections and performance.

This flick is killin me.. wishing I still had my ‘78 Rocco w Centra Type 7 wheels, Phoenix Stahlflex tires, Bilstein ‘Sport’ setting dampers, Zender rear spoiler.. on and on.. 1357 cc 74 bhp was never so much fun. 😅😅😢

Had MK 1 , MK2 , MK3 and now MK6 along with B8 Passat R-line love em and from NJ spent many summers down in Wildwood!

Nice to see so many MK1 and MK2 VW'S. Had a 1985 MK2 GTI in Mars Red. Is this show or get together in Wildwood just start? Miss the shows at English Town 😪. Also had a MK4 R32 but lost it in 2012 to a flood 😢

This was the second year of the event and the dates have been announced for Sept 6-8 in 2024!
