Too many sitcoms have the wife/mom of the family be the knowledgeable eye rolling straight-talker. But honestly I love how Francine is, just under the surface, the most batshit crazy of them all
I've always found funny the fact that Stan is a CIA agent and Francine is some kind of crazy ex-inmate street fighter deus ex machina, but Hayley is a hippie and Steve is a nerd.
I find it funny that Hayley looks like both her parents and Steve barely looks like either of them but Hayley’s the one whose paternity Francine’s unsure of
I also like that even though she's not normally that, on occasion we get a glimpse into her mind and she [apparently] has a vast breadth of knowledge she has no business knowing 😂 "Steve, quit babbling at your sister in Aramaic, it's a dead language"
Francine is the perfect amount of unhinged, just enough where it can be deeply unsettling for a bit, but doesn't overtake the show or make her unlikable.
agree they hit the perfect balance with francine, american dad in general has done a much better job avoiding flanderisation of its characters ( not completely but still) than family guy has, even Roger who's probably the easiest to ruin that way I think they still balance his insanity well
Ikr. I love it when she randomly drops some of the crazy things she’d done before. There was another scene in Season 1 where she complained about customers recycling their tips when she was a stripper. “Like I’m an idiot. Like I don’t have peripheral vision.” Is a freaking funny line
More functional than Peter and Lois’ marriage, it seems. It seems that both Peter and Lois just take advantage of each other; financially and emotionally, while Stan and Francine still care for each other, especially since Francine wishes to support her husband, even if the two are absolute sociopaths.
The roof key gag has to be one of the funniest bits on the whole show. It's so subtle, it doesnt overstay its welcome, and it's based entirely on a little bit of dramatic irony
i like how being batshit crazy doesn’t make francine selfish or unreasonable. like yes, she’s understandably mad that stan brought his work on vacation, but when she hears that he’s after an objectively evil man, she’s like, “fine, WE’LL take him out.”
Stan and Francine were a match made in... well, I'm not sure if it was heaven, but they go perfectly well together. It's almost amazing how they raised two children that won't fight, and can't fight respectively
Actually Hayley can fight, she chooses not to as violence isn’t the answer, but I’m sure there were some episodes where she beats the shit out of someone
2:39: I only jus realized Francine talking about knocking Santa's teeth out & cutting off his hands was indeed the right call to make! 😂💀 That way even if the body is found there's no way to trace it who it is😯
It's like that chintzy Boomer meme. "Last night I told my wife her soup tasted terrible. Today, it tastes much better." And the accompanying image is a guy eating a soup with the hugest blackeye.
What I love about this show is that it's a refreshing change from making the dad a complete douchebag who is alcoholic or mediocre and make the mom the voice of reason and the one that cleans afterwards. Like Stan has the body of a DILF and he is a highly trained agent that makes pretty decent money and is very disciplined and his wife is a walking pile of love that deep down has the most twisted backstory , violent toughts and she is capable of the most disturbing kinds of torture ,completely insane person. Those two really are a fun pair, a hella lot better than Peter and Lois.
I think Francine’s the perfect sniper. She’s holding a pistol with scope and silencer arm fully extended and straight and she has zero sway of movement when aiming. Yes it’s a cartoon I’m making a joke
Something that I noticed that's a bit funny is that while burying the santa body each displays different levels of expertise with Francine mindlessly taking exactly from the pile of dirt she has, Stan taking from the bottom of his pile, and both Steve and Hayley taking directly from the ground. Shows who's buried bodies the most.
It'd ruin the joke of how unhinged she is. Did she actually experience all of the violent experiences she talks about, or is she THAT unstable? We don't know and should never know. It's like confirming Dennis from It's Always Sunny is a serial killer; blatantly answering yes or no ruins the joke.
Francine is such a talented human. Shes super powerful, resourceful, quick, and witty. Also to the other comments saying shes stupid: Shes clearly not dumb, shes clueless at times. If you watched more episodes you would know she is far from that. I love watching scenes that has her in it. Shes so interesting.
I think her being blonde really just ties to her often times air headness and in her own world. Like the stereotype of blonde white women so ppl forget she actually capable of everything you’ve said she is
I like how Francine went from being the hot wife who knows everything to the hot wife who knows everything AND is secretly a potential serial killer with an adreniline complex
9:22 not gonna lie this is kinda similar to that time when stan thought he was fat but was really skinny and he was hallucinating a trainer to help him get skinnier
it's always the smallest and seemingly least horrific stuff that makes me laugh my ass off at how truly horrifying it is. I mean I'd do the exact same thing Stan does at 6:18
There are multiple episodes that focus on and show how absolutely unhealthy their relationship is. The creators don't hide it and have the Smith's carry it with an, almost, sort of pride.
I hope the creator one day decides on an episode or an arc about Francine finally leaving Stan for good and he goes to a mental asylum. As the final season of American Dad. (And Klaus has his human body back.)
“Yeah I killed my college roommate, I can’t believe you didn’t know that! I stabbed her. 😊” That scene always cracks me up, especially the scared/shocked faces they are making at her while she talks about it so casually.
The difference between Lois and Francine is that Lois is a miserable woman whose sanity easily breaks when pushed enough, while Francine is happy and casually batshit insane all the time. Lois would go on a rant to justify her behavior, to which Francine would just stab her and call her an amateur.
The moment when she revealed she was sturing an empty bowl and starts singing in the dark cracked me up. Francine is the funniest of the McFarland moms. Lois is way to predictable but Francine can still suprise me.
If you are a start trek voyager fan, youve seen Francine. In the episode where the doctor creates his own family and home life in the holodeck, she is his wife. Francine herself is modeled after the real life person. Tall cute blond.

The whole family is batshit. But, I can understand Francine. I mean... just look at her son. What kind of crackjack lottery made that happen?
It’s great isn’t it, Stan and Francine are the foil to one another as they both do crazy/ridiculous/dangerous things 😂😂😂
Probably all the blow she does.

More functional than Peter and Lois’ marriage, it seems.
It seems that both Peter and Lois just take advantage of each other; financially and emotionally, while Stan and Francine still care for each other, especially since Francine wishes to support her husband, even if the two are absolute sociopaths.
