The build that removed the Start Button in Windows 8... (Build 8220)

- Опубликовано: 6 июл 2024
- surprise video! a Windows 8 Consumer Preview escrow build (8220) leaked yesterday (as of video's original upload date), and on this video I will do a quick installation and exploration of it. I've been kinda curious about it, so... why not?
most notable change here is that yes this is the first build* with the Start button removed, a controversial change in Windows 8 that has been eventually reverted by 8.1.
*the new earliest available, if a potential earlier build with start button removed leaks then I will change the title

3:50 To fix this:
- Set the date back to somewhere before 15 January 2013
- Open CMD as administrator, run "slmgr -rearm"
- Restart. You may need to do the previous and this step twice.
Next time when you install builds like this, set the date back.

@@xander.cute498 wtf
yes but my computer only runs hyper-v decently (hyper-v has 0 bios and no way of changing bios date, it syncs from host, changing host makes hyper-v work but you cant open the vm window to interact with the vm, only way is to install windows 8.1 fresh in 2013 date, install hyper-v and try it. but my laptop is from 2019, it can only run 1809+ i tried 1607 but it will bsod on startup, rufus says).
This is why we use windows 8.1 instead…
@@AmProPlayerYT I’m not saying I use windows 8.1 as my daily driver, I’m saying it’s better than 8
100% true. it also has booting to desktop and 6yrs of extra support. 8 has less support than 7.
4:23 Cannot believe Windows can also block this. How smart
Timebomb nulled due to installing with the clock set ahead of the original expiry date.
its because of a timebomb not they can block it ( I still do this on my win 11 vms )
110 14965+ boots after timebomb date BUT it has annyoing dialog box every logon saying to update insider build AND some builds have broken or disabled features. and i think it will restart every few hours i think. also you can use it on the internet. but still windows 10 14965-2004 uses legacy edge which is pretty much the same and 20h2+ has chromium edge that you can copy files to use on release versions. but trying to update wont work too! but still you can use it with internet tho.
This build is 1 month older than me! but its weird to see almost completed metro with windows explorer looking very incomplete...
it's almost perfect! the ribbon file explorer and flat aero UI, if only they retained the windows 7 start menu and start orb
Nice video!
thanks for the vidio i need it
cool video! ❤❤❤
thanks for this (y)
hi, good video!
hi, and thanks
Very good content, before i looked i thought that you had at least 10k subs. I am your 592nd :)
thanks, and welcome! :)
Removing the Start button is why Windows 8 will be forever known as a UI nightmare, that and full screen "metro/modern apps".
Tbf Windows 8 should have had an option to use the traditional Start button/Start menu UI as it was in Windows 7. Just like in 95 you could opt for the 3.x Program Manager during setup
....bbbbuuuut this is Microsoft Corporation, what should one expect from them..?
i mean the start button is technically still there, you have to move the cursor to the bottom left
@@Skylake013it’s also in the charms bar
@@Skylake013 An average non-touch user probably will only *immediately* know the VISIBLE buttons.
