Did You Know Gaming takes a look at some facts, secrets and Easter eggs from Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver! These Pokémon games were made by Game Freak and published by Nintendo outside of Japan for the Nintendo DS, and were remakes of Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver for the Game Boy Color. The games would later receive and update in the form of Pokemon Crystal.

Ho-oH's theme is absolutely glorious and beautiful. It totally conveys the feeling of basking in front of a powerful, noble and godlike creature.
Sofista The Hipsta this is tea its hands down my favourite legendary theme along w/ giratina

Lugia's great too. It brings to mind the scenes in the Anime and movie where it appears hidden in a waterspout/cyclone.
Best Pokémon game ever. Full of content and things to do. A masterpiece
Wouldn't call a horribly balanced game a, "masterpiece". They had an opportunity with the remake to fix the horrendous gym leader/E4 level curve, and they didn't.
I think that issue was mainly caused because they want remakes to be exactly like the original. The same thing happened with FRLG and I mainly say that flaw is because of how they designed remakes at the time. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this was also in ORAS but at least they changed the levels of the Kanto gym leaders. I consider HGSS the best games even though they do have little issues, I wish they kept in all new evolutions and didn’t lock any to post game but I agree they should’ve added new Pokémon to the gyms and E4.

The game saves a copy of every pokemon sent to the pokewalker. If are unable to return the pokemon properly due to any reason, you can just reset the pokewalker information by pressing up, select and R in the pokewalker menu of the heartgold/soulsilver game. This also gives you back the pokemon

No shit, one was a pedometer with minigames, and the other is just an automatic Pokemon catcher and stop spinner. They're barely comparable.
One game is free. One isn’t.
Glad I got Soul Silver, these games are extremely bloody rare. Here in the U.K., I found a Heart Gold copy for over £60 and that's without the poke walker.

3:03 2009: Nintendo makes an effort so that all Pokémon are available on a secondary feature.
2019: Nintendo doesn't even bother to put all Pokémon in a main series game.
Now that's a nice 10 year challenge. If Satoru Iwata was still alive he would've never allowed for this to happen.
But there are 700 MORE POKEMON NOW
You can't actually expect them to indefinitely support ALL OF THEM
@@genericwhitemale9566 I see you're being ironic but I'll answer for the sake of the argument: Just like the amount of Pokémon increases, so does the power of their consoles, it's not like we're asking them to put all Pokémon in a GameBoy cartridge after all, especially since the Switch is a home console and it has much more power than any console the main series games have ever been in.
@@BerylliumOxide no you fucking dolt it dosen't matter about console power
They have to create new animations and update the models everytime a new one is made
You cant expect them to do that for 1000 POKEMON every year do you?
@@genericwhitemale9566 yes
GenericWhiteMale they don’t.... They use the same models from 3DS and the animation for 3DS. The new models are your starter Pokémon and the gala region . They tried to make new models for dynamax just to make that excuse.
I'm still a bit puzzled as to why these games are so friggin expensive used. I want to go back to them sometime maybe but damn.
Update: I just got Heartgold for $65, including tax.
The print run was smaller than the other games because they all came with the pokewalker, also they're the best games so of course they're still in high demand
Piracy is your friend
They made limited copies, I believe it's because adding the Pokewalker with each one was too expensive or something so they didn't make nearly as much as other games.
Supply and demand. I own four of these from their release. Under supplied, highly demanded.
I see now...
Its interesting that the composer had issues with Ho-oh and Lugia's theme, but it paid off as they are some of the best in the series.
Did you know?
It's the best remake in the series.
It's the best game in the series.
Nah, I like BW2 better.
ORAS was pretty good though
David Hower yeah I prefer ORAS. Heartgold and Sousilver may be more true to their originals, but ORAS is more fun to me outside of the post games.

It's disappointing that you guys would choose to advertise Full Sail University in one of your videos. To me, DidYouKnow has a very solid and credible reputation as a quality content producer, but advertising for Full Sail diminishes that. Full Sail is a for-profit University, many of which have been known to scam students, provide lackluster education, and charge overwhelming tuition and interest rates. Full Sail participates in this as well. Advertising them is only increasing their presence, when in fact we should be speaking out against them, as for-profit schools only aim is to make as much money as they can from uninformed college students without regard for consequences or what happens to the students.
As a previous student, I full heartedly agree.
I'm a student at Full Sail, so I have some insight to this. Full Sail accepts most students with little regard to their High School GPA. Because of this, there are plenty of students that start their degree at Full Sail, then drop out, already having lost a lot of money. That's definitely an issue and one we should be working on. However, you're misrepresenting the positives of Full Sail. For people who go and complete the work, create projects that will get them noticed by the industry they want to enter, and network with other students, faculty members, and professionals, it's one of the best places you can find. The classes aren't what I would call "lackluster." In fact, they're pretty damn intensive since students only take a particular class for four weeks.
The negatives of Full Sail are there and you're mostly accurate, but it's pretty clear to see that it's not a scam and that students that put in the effort have plenty of opportunity to get into their desired career.
Tech Crew Guy Full Sail is terrible; it's a 'university' that's only partly recognized and charges hilarious fees. Also, it's an online university, which just always is a red flag.
I'm saying this as a guy that's not anywhere near from the US.
Tech Crew Guy "they're pretty damn intensive since students only take a particular class for four weeks." That's not a university, that's a f**king summer course. Sweet Christmas US higher education is stupendously f**ked up.
There is ALWAYS someone defending Full Sail university when it gets slammed into the ground and they always have wacky names with no avatars with little or no content. It's hard to not say "hired knights" or bots.
full sail isn't regionally accredited but still costs $50k lmao
Full sail is a terrible choice.
There was rumors that they were scamming Students, my dads friend went to Full Sail and he said it’s nothing like they say, I wanted to go to Full Sail until I heard those complaints
@Ainsley Gainsley wonder how much of that is NXT
I am in no way surprised that the Ho-Oh battle theme was tough to make, the effort shines through. Gorgeous theme.

It works just fine for me
Johnny Arredondo Maybe now, but not years before, dumbass. You realize that after 11 years, they’d figure a workaround.
At the time, Pokemon Platinum on emulator worked no problem. Pokemon HG/SS always had issues, whats worse, if you saved while the visual glitches were already at work, you lost your save file forever.

HeartGold was my first Pokémon game. I was twelve. I don't think I've ever played through a game as many times as I have with this game. It never gets old.
Generation IV is objectively the best. It introduced Wifi communication and bolstered the Pokemon competitive scene. Sure it did not have the same impact as gen I and II in popular culture, but as a set of games, it is still the best mainly due to HGSS. HGSS have everything you can want from a Pokemon game at that time: Pokemon following you, Battle frontier, and Two region to explore. It improves from its predecessor, GSC so much, and this is already considering how good GSC was. The only thing I can think of what GEN II has over HGSS, is the fact that Gold and Silver is compatible to the original gameboy, a trait that is extremely rare nowadays. Gen IV without HGSS isn't as good as the other generations if we think about it so that should give you an idea just how good HGSS is. Heart Gold and Soul Silver are Gamfreaks's masterpiece.
Gen 5 would be the best gen if gen 3 remakes happened that would of been sick

2018 : you get a game with missing features for 60€ and a pokeball with a stick, separately, for 10€ higher than the older games used to cost.
It's a spinoff, OF COURSE there won't be every damn feature. It's to welcome GO players into the actual franchise.
@@leonard3667 the only people that still play pokémon go (at least the 90%) are the hardcore fans who also play the mainline games. So this game is made for the 10%?
Also, that's a bad way to introduce them to the series. Gen 1 did not had natures, abilities, items, breeding etc and people call them broken, unbalanced and dated.
Sir Turtle Gamefreak literally confirmed it in one of their recent interviews that the Let’s Go games are part of the MAINLINE GAMES. Stop using the excuse that they’re spinoffs because that doesn’t hide the fact that these games are mediocre cashgrabs

Black and White 2 are my favorites. But man, does Heartgold and Soulsilver come really darn close.
I saw SPLAAAART the pikachu from the gamegrumps fire red Play through. Awesome.
I KNOW, RIGHT?!
Time stamp please
SoulSilver has to be my favorite Pokémon title. I haven't been that obsessed with a Pokémon game since.
One of my favorite games from the ds era i just wish the resale value wasnt so high so i could buy another copy
I absolutely LOVED Pokemon SoulSilver. It had so many cool features that I really think could have been implemented into newer games. Just think, in ORAS you could have a Torchic follow you! How cool would that be? I still play SS for memories and because it's my third favorite Pokemon game of all time.
70% of those pokewalkers we're ran through a laundry machine.
I put mine on the wire on the wheel of my bike, and I just spinning it while I play other things
Bro thats too honest lol
Yup.
Soul silver was my favorite Pokémon game. It has a special place in my heart after the endless childhood nights and no home work getting done days.
I remember when I had the pokewalker, instead of walking outside I just kept walking around my kitchen and my mom would just question my stupiditiy LOL
You could have just tilted it on your hand you know?
The only thing that I wish could have been better in HG/SS was when after you defeat the pokemon League for the first time and go to kanto that the wild pokemon were upped to your level and increased per area instead of being what they were in the original. I feel they should have been 40-50s and Mt. Silver should have been 50-60s instead of finding level 2-20 max. All the trainers were at your level but, not wild pokemon. Besides that the games were amazing!
If you like that then check out the rom hacks storm silver and sacred gold by drayano60
If they did that, then it would be practically impossible to evolve some of the wild Pokémon you'd encounter.
Re-Exo how do you figure that it would be impossible to evolve some wild pokemon?
@@metalmario1231 Most Pokémon require a specific level to evolve. Though, if they are past that level they won't evolve until levelling up a little later (not sure how it's decided when a Pokémon will attempt to evolve again). So you could theoretically get a level 65 Pokémon that has 2 evolutions that evolves the first time at, like, 80 and then reaches 100 without evolving again. Though this issue doesn't really matter as long as the Pokémon can be bred.
Re-Exo Um, no they don't require a specific level. If you caught a unevolved pokemon whose level was past their evolition level, the next time you level it up, it will evolve again. It would only become impossible to evolve them if they remains unevolved when they reach level 100.
I wish this game was more accessible because your going to have to pay a arm and a leg if you want to get this game now. I guess it just goes to show how popular this game is

Gen 4 as a whole is the high point of this franchise.
Gen 5 is the popular option but Gen 4 was truly the best. true fans know it
@jason savchuk gen 4 has heartgold which is probably "gen 2" in your mind. sinnoh alone was amazing. combine that with kanto and johto and you have perfection. a region on its own unova is probably the best but thats not how gens work.
Hey as someone who works with unity quite a bit, finding source code/assets from older projects is super common; especially with small teams. Rather than start from scratch most dev teams just start with all of the old files and work from there. I imagine gamefreak wanted to clean out this stuff, but some software engineer forgot it was there.
Heartgold and Soulsilver will always be my favorites in the series!
Omg I remember having the Pokéwalker. It was the pre-Pokémon go. I loved mine.

Great video! I love Heartgold and Soulsilver!
I saw a old design for the covers. They were going to be called Solid gold and Pure Silver. Pokewalkers are awesome! Even if the battery died, your pokemon is ok.

OH HELL YES.
Oh yes!
I wish they could make an updated version of the poke walker in the future. I remember mine came out with damages out of the box, but I refused to return it for some reason. I was also like 9 so there's that. I ended up losing it a long time ago, but I never really knew how to use it. I feel like Pokémon go is somewhat of a spiritual successor to the first walker all the way back in the gold and silver era.
I loved these games. I played the original Gold version during a time when I didn't really use the internet that much. As such, I was completely blown away to find out that you could go back to Kanto after the Elite Four. I was living in blissful ignorance back in those days, which is to say, I knew very little about game announcements or any secrets in certain games, etc... Everything felt new and fresh.
The day I got HeartGold, I was overcome with nostalgia as soon as I heard the New Bark Town theme. I have some good memories attached to these games. I played them through my childhood years, as a teen, as a college student, and continue to enjoy them even as a medical student, when time allows. Though I may not necessarily like some of the design decisions the developers made in the more recent games, I look forward to the next game with the same anticipation as my past, 10-year-old self.
HeartGold was the first Pokémon game I ever played and I still love it to this day
Imo this was the last good pokemon game. These and gen 3 will always be my favourites. Wish we would get them on switch.
Have you forgotten that Gen 5 exists???
I still can't believe that Kris is not the female playable character in these games. I just don't understand the creative decision behind getting rid of the 1st ever female protagonist when it's her time to shine again. If you ask me, that milestone needs to be celebrated!
It's just unfathomable how she didn't make it into the games. How do the creators not make that happen?
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver were perhaps the best Pokemon games, with B2/W2 being a close competitor. Following Pokemon was something so small yet something entirely unforgettable.
I want the pokewalker to make a comeback
7:39 1. I remember that photo album for some reason and 2. I remember sending the capsule to my Pokémon Black version and getting the move Snarl.
Jokes on Gamefreak. I didn't emulate HGSS. I didn't want to restart my save and I wanted to try a randomised nuzlocke, so I downloaded the rom, randomised it, uploaded it to an old R4 cartridge.
And before you anti-emulator/r4 people chime in, I want to say that in my POV, I shouldn't have to buy another cartridge to have a second save file, nor should I pay a random stranger £90+ to replay an old game. If I want a copy sealed, I'll pay. If I can give the original creators my money, I'll pay, but if I just want to replay a game I love that I already own that the original company gets no benefit from if I buy a new copy, I might as well download. I will always give my money to a game if I can buy from the original publisher or company. I am a game designer myself and will always give money to the creators, though if I can only buy from some sleezy douche on ebay, I have no issues with just downloading a rom.
This video legit made me dig through my drawers to find my pok'e walker. Can't wait to use it again
I recall the Arceus/Sinjoh event working twice for me since I had no problem providing 2 of them.

Feb 28 2010, the very first pre order ive ever made were these two games right here, even got the special event Jirachi that unlocked certain features in the pokewalker. Fast forward to March 14 2010, i was so damn near exited to play the games that i lost track of my surroundings walking around in a local Walmart. Its hard to believe its been almost 10 years since these games came out.
I remember losing my pokewalker in the late fall and I found it out in the field in spring after the snow had melted and it was in complete working condition
One of the only Pokémon games I went back to, after completing, over and over again
This game is almost 10 years old, looks better, plays better, has more Pokemon, more features, more routes, than Pokemon Sword and Shield.
I'm happy to still have my SoulSilver copy as a 2016 Christmas gift. However, I am bummed that I missed the shiny Pichu event and therefore, cannot get the Spiky Eared Pichu.
It also sucks that I have to get a throwaway Pokemon DPPT copy to get the Shiny Pichu via DNS trick to avoid causing harm to my Diamond save.
"Painstakingly recreated"
Words absent from the design docs of Gen 8
Game Freak gets lazier everyday.
I can't understant how each game after HGSS is worse in comparison. They do have a standard of how to make a good, complete game with HGSS so with aren't they following it is beyond me.

Then don't buy them. It's easier than bitching about them.
I really hope they remaster the gen 2 or gen 1 games again, can't believe it's been 9 yrs since this game came out
I'm sort of glad i traded in my copy of diamond for soul silver as a kid, these games were so amazing and I still have the pokewalker and the original box
A shame let's go couldn't be like this.
These are the best remakes in Pokémon history so far. ORAS removed battle frontier so its second.
Agreed.
God I remember I left my Pokewalker in my pants and it was destroyed during laundry.
My very first legit Pokémon game. It’s been my number 1 fav since ✨
Not only did I pre-order the Japanese version of Soul Silver, but I went through a ton of trouble locating and trading for the Movie Arceus and Shiny Pichu so I could do those in game events as soon as I could. When my High School friends got the English versions I was quite popular as the events weren't region locked, meaning I could let people borrow my Pokes long enough to do the events. Notched-ear Pichu was a cool thing to have, but it really sucks they couldn't code it into future games to be put forward.
Probably the best Pokemon games. Fast, feature-rich, lots of content.
My Pokémon heartgold game arrived yesterday already have a crobat so much nostalgia
I remembered lending out my poke walker to my dad during the fall. You see, since he's a football referee he would always be running around the field and I really wanted to catch a Magby and I don't go out too often. So I would lend it to him and he would run with it in his uniform pocket.
I loved these remakes. Especially bc the original silver & gold games lost their save file.
Totaly forgot about the pokewalker. Sure had some fun with that.
