    The Japan matsuri this year was probably the best compared to the other ones in the past years.Although the food was pricey there was a massive selection! My favourite thing on the stage was probably the kendo, aikido and the japanese guy that went on BGT.

    Geographical notes.
    The current Ainu culture is a kind of business that was born in recent years. It should also be noted that it is also geopolitical propaganda that is advantageous for pro-Russian and pro-North Korean groups. Geopolitics of East Asia.

    A sad soulless excuse for a Matsuri celebration. I bet so many Japanese folks were left there scratching their heads, wondering what this oddball mob of people were supposed to be doing. I'm glad you two made the most of your excursion though. I'd have done the same just out of sheer enthusiasm but would have left in a baffled, underwhelmed state of mind. Where were the charming stalls and the organised areas? For a wonderful summer fair with real heart, a sense of community and tradition (or a celebratory market of any kind) folks really need to just pack a bag and head over to Japan itself-- you did a genuinely terrific job of inspiring us in that regard. What we get in the West is mostly just corporate advertising and tourism PR. That's not a real Japanese festival by any stretch. I'm sure you felt a little of what I grumbled about here. Keep up the great work with your channel. 🗾🎎🛫🍜

    • @wegoeast
      @wegoeast  Год назад +3

      I think you've hit the nail on the head there describing it as tourism PR, which more than anything else it was/ is. But this isn't a bad thing, as there were stalls from all over Japan which gave it some nice variety. People who have never been to Japan would have got some nice exposure to the different prefectures represented, food, and the performances. As you said, you'll never be able to fully recreate the magic of a proper Japanese matsuri, and the only way to experience it is to jump on the plane (which everyone should do)! 🙂

      As a Londoner and big Japan fan I should have been annoyed by your comment as I went to this event, and had some great moments, but I completely agree it felt more corporate and embassy led than truly genuine, it gave a hint of what was possible and I’ve enjoyed the products from the Hokkaido stall I brought, but it could have been so much more as an experience in scale, needs a larger venue, Mainly it was queues and crowds.

    Did they have the matsuri games? I've been really saddened by not seeing any in any of the pictures I've looked up as I want to visit this year's one on 6 October. I'll be sad if there aren't any. Also, I really hate that there's this obsession with making everything "family-friendly" in the Western sense. It's just silly.

    • @wegoeast
      @wegoeast  2 месяца назад

      We didn't see any matsuri games last year - although I can't say there won't be any this year. Having them would be a great addition, but the event is more of an exposition than a traditional matsuri, which is a shame. Also completely agree with the family friendly thing. The event would be better if it was treated like a proper matsuri, but it would likely be too busy / run into licensing issues (classic UK!)
