- Mac Dre was more than a Bay Area legend, his music spanned throughout the country and internationally as well. Joined by his mother Mac Wanda, she opens up about meeting Drake and hearing his overwhelming respect for her son, telling her that that is what he grew up listening to and gave him confidence to be who he is today.
With the new documentary "Legend Of The Bay" out now, Wanda speaks on executive producing the project and working with Sway to narrate the story. Throughout the interview she also speaks on Mac Dre's subject matter and his determined personality.

My girl (at the time) had a slutty friend who got me back there. Dre had the afro bangin and was on one. No really cool story, but everyone was super cool and welcoming. Let me drink and smoke with them. I made it clear I knew all about the music.

Mac Dre's mom is truly a beautiful person. I don't mean to be disrespectful to my favorite rapper... but she was quite gorgeous in her younger days and the years have been kind to her. Like my girlfriend always reminds me "Black don't crack" lol. But more so than that, she's very classy, well spoken and epitomizes elegance and grace. She needs recognition for giving birth to and raising and molding one of the best people to ever come out of the Bay Area. That's saying something too because the Bay is a land of many great people, people with amazing talent, visionaries and revolutionaries... to shine amongst them is no small feat.

Mac Dre was one of the first rappers I (assisted) engineered an album for. I don't know the name of the album but the one song I had the most fun making was "Off The Rictor".
Some of the most fun I had in the studio.
I was 21 at the time. A young White/Mexican kid from LA that grew up loving Bay Area music. A real youngblood in the business at the time. I learned a lot from Dre & Mike.
We recorded it in Vegas with Mike Mosley on or around '99 or 2000.
Mike & Dre were definitely the two most professional hip-hop producer & artists, respectfully, that I've worked with.
Dre was serious but knew how to have alot of fun writing & on the mic.
Definitely one of my top 5 recording Artists to work with in a nearly 20 year career.
And trust me, I've worked with many Artists you've heard of.
Mike was dead serious about making & sequencing his beats. Never saw him smoke or drink. When everyone else were smoking & drinking, Mike was alone in the smaller B-room making beats on the MPC-3000 & keyboards.
I was fortunate enough that Mike would let me sit in the room with him and just watch him do his thing. A real pro & genuine talent. A genius in the game for real.
I didn't realize at the time that I was working for Bay Area legends.
I realize now how lucky I was to have had that experience.
A real pleasure to be a very small part of working with Dre.

This may sound dramatic, but I'd give my life for Mac Dre to still be here. The Bay needs him more than ever as a light. It's so messed up that he was taken when the Bay was right on the brink of becoming nationally recognized and he'd have been the leader of that movement. I wish I could see a 45-50 year old Dre as a multi-multi-multi-millionaire, mogul. I wish he was financially compensated according to his talent. It bums me out that there's rappers with 30 times the money that mac dre had that don't have a fraction of his talent they don't have a fraction of his charisma or his presence. He was such a leader and trend setter and the mainstream hip-hop community doesn't recognize how lyrically gifted he was. He was a lyricist to the highest degree.
