The Most Powerful Characters In Gaming Ever # 41

  • This series is all about video game characters who have left me in awe at their power, whether it's the ability to survive a boulder falling on their head, colossal earth-shattering strength, sheer dominance over the game they're in, etc.
    For a change of pace, as with the twentieth and thirty-eighth episodes, rather than simply cover an extremely powerful character, we're taking a look at some of the most bone-crushingly, teeth-clenchingly, awe-inspiringly powerful attacks and weapons gaming has to offer...
    Powerful can mean anything from making huge numbers pop up on screen to making the game a cinch. As such, the majority of the attacks and weapons featured today are practical as well as deadly, but be warned: if these ones are used poorly, they could lead to dire consequences...

    Mystery Dungeon doesn't have any enemies outside of dungeons, so presumably some mage already thought of that and purged the surface world of monsters, so now they take refuge in dungeons.
    Because we're the good guys.

    Given Sacrifice and DefeatMax appear to be pre-retranslation versions of Kamikazee and Kathwack, I doubt their reach would be endless. Still would've missed those effects in something like Zettai Hero Project, where the large amount of traps make it possible to "steal" an item by mistake.

      In the ones I played it hit everything on the floor if you did that. It even worked on Kecleon. You wouldn't be able to make good use of it if you weren't Smeargle though since you wouldn't hit anything without mind reader (or lock on). It's a pretty good combo if you could do it, but Smeargle isn't all that tough and uses are limited, so I don't think it would be good for super long dungeons

    Comet Azur from Elden Ring probably deserves mention here. Under normal circumstances, it's not that useful. Sure, it's a giant death laser that does loads of damage, but it eats through FP so quickly that it can't be used for more than a few seconds. All that changes once you get the cerulean hidden tear, which reduces all FP costs to zero for a few seconds. Combine that with a few sorcery buffing spells and items and you can cheese the majority of bosses. It was such a busted combo that From Software actually had to reduce the duration of the hidden tear.

    • @alejandro_rodriguez_99
      @alejandro_rodriguez_99 2 года назад +6

      If you think that then the Celestriad + Thamasa soul combo from FFVI should be here too. When you equip this you can use 2 spells in 1 turn and each one consume 1MP only always. Then you remember that the quick spell (99MP, ) you obtain 2 extra turns after using it, and Artema (80 MP), that ignore enemy defense, and you can do easily 49995 damage with a character in one turn in a game where the most HP an enemy has is 66535 HP usong only 6MP. Without Celestriad is 499 and that is a lot of MP.

    • @AnAverageGoblin
      @AnAverageGoblin Год назад

      Comet Azur is very useful even without the infinite fp tear. the cost of the death beam barely matters if you have over 40 FP. honestly the cost + dps is far overrated, even if it hits for just a few seconds it does over a quarter of the boss' health bar.

    If we are talking about devastating weapons that can easily backfire, then you can't leave out the Fat Man from the Fallout franchise. While its practicality and effectiveness has wildly varied through the series, the gist if it is that it shoots a mini-nuke that deals devastating damage that only the toughest of enemies can endure. Of course, you have to make sure you don't get caught in the blast yourself, as otherwise you'll learn the hard way why the weapon has the name it has.

      In terms of raw damage numbers, yes. But, for a more practical tool, something like the dart gun is more OP. Weird status effect weapons are rare enough, but one thing that takes it from gimmicky to game-breaking is the fact that it eliminates enemies ability to sprint.

    Seeing that Mystery dungeon part I would say that Articuno is also a overpowered character in the first 2 Mystery dungeon games. Snow powder is a multi hit move with a lot of uses that with a little of help (1 or 2 ginsengs or some calcium) can OHKO every enemy in the room. And if you want to kill a boss or an outlaw in one turn not problem link mind reader with sheer cold (this doesn't work in super because bosses are inmune to somo moves like endeavor and OHKO moves) (you can also mind reader powder snow) . It also can learn the overpowered agility if it wasn't enough.
    Moltres and Zapdos have room moves too but, Zapdos only in explorers and they have less pp, pokemon inmune to those 2 moves, flash fire pokemon for Moltres heat wave and lightning rod pokemon ruins Zapdos discharge and you can't kill ground pikemon with the little damage that you do to them, unlike snow powder that can only be resisted (the penalty is lower in mystery dungeon games) and Articuno learns it at level 1 (this doesn't make him good in level 1 dungeons because he need a lot of Xp for each level up). Articuno has 2 little problem, he learns sheer cold stupidly late, level 85 or 78 and technically 1 pokemon is inmune to snow powder, shedinja.

    It'd be nice if Shiren also had a full-on "mage mode" like that Torneko game, too. That series loves its side characters that get top-billing, like the hero, but stop having any presence by the time you reach the postgame (which is basically 80% of the game). This would provide an "easy" fix.
    Like, Shiren 5 had a character with a gun and one that could shapeshift into monsters, I would have loved playing as them myself, instead of having relatively weak AI partners do it for me in the easiest dungeon in the game.

    Speaking of Doom, there are user made weapon packs that are stronger (usually much stronger) then the original weapons. And pretty much the most powerful and broken of these mods is Russian Overkill.
    There are a few weapons that can vaporize 3000 Cyberdemons within 1 to 4 shots. As well as depopulate entire levels.
    It gets to the point you're more likely to blow yourself up then die to the monsters. But Russian Overkill also raises the cap on health and armor. Even dropping a Hindenburg 2 next to you won't kill you when you're packing 200 thousand in health and armor xD

    That last question about what defeatmax considers a room intrigues me.
    I feel like "outside" would either constitute not-in-a-room (doesn't work) or treat the earth as one big room, since we have an atmosphere serving as a bubble and a sort of ceiling protecting the rest of the galaxy. This means monsters inside would be safe, and also thick foggy areas might be safe if they count as their own atmospheres. At any rate, a small price to pay for a monsterless world.
