Hello, Don. This had been a strange and difficult time. I just want to say thank you for all you've done for us addicts looking for some normalcy. Sincere admiration.
This is gold! ;-) Bless you Don!! I'm so glad I have others (37 yrs later) to share my love of Dave, Paul and The World's Most Dangerous Band! Thank you again, Don!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Thank you, Don Giller. In Canada we have a thing called the Giller Prize, which goes to the author of the year's best novel. I submit that you receive the Giller Prize for being Don Giller. Vote now and vote often.
God, this is sublime perfection. What memories. When Larry said "Tatter tots" and Chris Elliott, always in serious character, had to bow his head to avoid laughing. And 'Mrs. Frank Di'Anello' dancing with James Brown at the end? Just bizarre perfection.
Back in the days when Network TV ruled the airwaves, NBC was THE premier network, THE juggernaut, the one with all the amazing shows and live broadcasts. How things have changed...
Don - I agree with the masses...You ‘da man! Your posts are the best! Thank you for what you do. Have you seen a Viewer Mail skit (February 1985?) where the viewer complained that Paul was rude to them on a commercial flight. In the recreation of the event, according to Paul’s memory, he was going to autograph a Gutenberg Bible for the guy. However, Paul was forced to diss the guy so he could land the plane after the crew was incapacitated? I was in the audience that night, which is a story unto itself. Keep up the GREAT work!
I've always loved Paul's genuine admiration for James Brown (and many of the musical guests and band members throughout the years). He's so passionate about music and has the ability to hype everyone up so much... not that James Brown needed help in that department.
DAMN! James Brown's performance of Jam could be it's own show. Wow. The rest of the show was pretty damn funny, too. Thanks for the non-chemical flashback, Don. Damn.
Have you ever met David Letterman? And if so how was the experience? It seems as if your work preserving his work would have eventually reached his ear.
I’ve met him several times, all very fleeting and inconsequential. I never introduced myself, so he didn’t know who I was, nor should he have. I’ve since learned that he’s aware of my digitalizing all of his Late Nights. That’s all of which I can speak with any certainty.
Don, could you help with the origin of the quote, "and by the industry of course I mean the business"? Was this a Paul Shaffer quote that became sort of a running joke? I thought this came from an interview with Paul but I have never been able find the original source for this. Thank you for this channel and all you do!
Don, do you think there was a “best” anniversary show (or do you have a favorite)? I always loved the third, but that’s probably because I had it on Betamax and watched it 50 times in the year or two after it aired.
Impossible to adequately answer. I also loved the Third, mostly for its unpredictability. The Tenth for its ultimate height of the show’s success. (Dave brought Gaines onstage at Radio City Music Hall during rehearsal and told her she’ll never see anything like this again.) The Fourth for its mere concept. The First here for miraculously surviving the year and being given the clearance to continue for another.
@@dongiller Ah yes, the whole "intellectual property of NBC" debacle. I not only remember it well, I think Brokaw's walk-on in the middle of the first CBS show is one of the heartiest laughs I ever got from the whole thing.

Thanks, Paul!! Very much appreciated.
The early years were the best.
I'm a Little Disappointed That S.C.T.V. Won't Be Aired Tonight
Don’t worry, it’ll air next week at it’s regular time
Thanks Don! I love the way Dave celebrates all of his anniversaries! This first one was very very very good!
Thanks Don for bringing back a part of my twenties! I never missed an episode. Good Times ❤
Great to see Dave’s first anniversary. Thank you again, Don, for preserving these fascinating and unusual moments in time.

Your content is the best ever.

Ha! If only I were related to the prize people. :)

Mrs. Frank DÁnello was da BOMB.
I comment way too frequently on your channel but this is frickin cool! I love inside baseball
OMG...again ,you spooked me Mr. Giller !...lol. you posted this and, as usual,
I thought First Anniversary Special had died
Now here is a total GEM. Something not many have ever seen, especially Millenials. Thanks Don!
Actually, there are two others previously uploaded. But not this complete or of this quality.
@@dongiller Much appreciated. Will check them out as well!

It's been 40 years since I last saw this!
James Brown clearly was not feeling it that night but still knocked it out of the park. What a pro.
It’s a treat to see Mr James Brown.
Thanks don. But saying thanks never seems like enough.

I remember watching this and being impressed that they got Army Archerd. 😀
This is a good one. Better than some of the later ones even. lol Melman was the man...

Damn.
Loved it when the band was just the 4 guys!
jesus even the intro graphic nbc was amaizing lol
42:36 Best Stupid Pet Trick Ever. It walks!
That.Was.A....HOOT! Even a Pia Zadora sighting.
I was born 10 months after this. I wish I could heal or go back to do my life over
live, damnit, live!!!
One of a kind!

I didn't know that only Paul and Will were original to "The World's Most Dangerous Band", as it seemed that Sid and Anton were there forever.
And the other original, before Sid: Hiram Bullock!
I wish someone would tell us the whereabouts of the giant doorknob.

It sounds like a Martin Short line. And thanks!
Didn't know James could kinda play an instrument. Pretty cool.

"The Walkman Video Disk" - Man, they were ahead of their time! Did Late Night invent VR? :-D
"How old is your son, Mary?" 😆🐩
It's much bigger than it ought to be. It's just plain big. And that's gotta be a very young Chris Elliott at 55:39.
Giant Doorknob Collection here - ruclips.net/video/Wnby83kzaUk/видео.html
Mrs. Di'Anello steals the show.
So Don, which anniversary show was this? What year did it originally air? Do you remember who the guests were?
You actual name should be "90% of people on the Internet"
You should watch the video. All your questions will be answered.
Who's the lady at 36:05?
Pia Zadora.
@@dongiller really, thanks!!
If anything disappointed me about the very, very, very last Late Show, it's that he didn't bring out the giant door knob.
Likely could not have due to NBC intellectual copyright.

But seriously what can you get here besides shades?
Paul had a sexy chest there 🤣
