    Hi guys, malaysian here. I try to answer few questions you asked in the video. Hope it helps.
    The N95 filter in car: There's actually case in malaysia somewhere 2019 where college students died from poisoning in proton's car because of carbon monoxide leaking from exhaust into interior of the car. 3 college student were died and 1 is in a comma. That sparks the conversation about carbon monoxide and n95 stuff.
    the lady told that she likes the safety: The government really encourages malaysian women to drive in the country. That's why proton comes out with lots of sensors to help women driving. I know this sounds very stereotype for woman on driving, what i can say is proton did their research and offer solution to their target market.
    NCAP safety 5 star rating: One of common stereotype about proton in malaysia is that proton's car is also well known as "sardine can car". Proton car will crumpled so bad in road accident where driver will sandwiched between their car seat and the steering wheel and can't get out from it. lots of cases of people's limbs getting cut off just to take them out from the car. So now proton getting serious to improve their safety and promoting their new car has a 5 star NCAP ASEAN.
    Thanks for reviewing malaysian's car. you guys are awesome!

    To truly understand the full transformation you'll need to see beyond just the official promotion videos by proton.
    Initially proton was setup with the assistance of Mitsubishi motors, with several older generation of its lancer given to proton to produce under the name Proton Saga. The next few cars from proton is various generations of the lancer.
    It was a great hit and everyone (Malaysians) is buying proton cars. Cheap reliable and good quality, it dominated the local car market. Out of 10 cars you see on the road, 8 will be a proton.
    Then things got bad. Rampant corruption and bad management. The fatal blow was the quality standards that even the Japanese car maker couldn't change and pulled out from proton. None the less proton continued to try and design their own cars, esp after the acquisition of lotus. With the new technology in hand they came developed the campro engine, which to be honest, although powerful, its using technology from a light weight sports car and didn't do well in heavier sedan cars (in terms of fuel efficiency).
    With the continued decline of quality, consumers started to seek imported cars, they turned to toyota vios and honda city.
    Malaysia then came out with its second national car maker, this time in corporation with Daihatsu, and like proton, almost All it's cars is older models of the daihatsu Mira.
    Consumers started to turn to perodua and proton is facing collapse. Capital is pumped into proton from the government directly, then subsequently through government controlled investment firms but it still can't save proton.
    The government then decided to put proton for sale, among the interested potential buyers is volkswagon, but they too couldn't change the mindset of proton and gave up and didn't proceed with the acquisition.
    Few years back, the Chinese car manufacturer geely, took an interest in proton and successfully purchased proton.
    Similar to geely acquisition of volvo, they mainly let proton continue their works. Geely proudly gave proton designs of their 3 car models. (3 models is a rumour).
    Proton released the proton x70, which is the 吉利博越 (geely boyue), their best selling suv in China. Proton collaborated with geely in the conversion from left hand drive to right hand drive. Initially first 2000 units is cbu from China, followed by ckd manufacturing in proton assembly lines.
    2 years later proton launched the x50, which is the 吉利斌越 geely binyue or geely coolray (sold in Philippines).
    The x50 and x70 is a major turning stone and for the first time in decades proton is turning in profit. With quality being monitored by geely, the car performed very well.
    It is our sincere hope as malaysians that proton will continue to improve their quality.
    Also, proton is improving their other models with new knowhows and knowledge sharing provided by geely and volvo.

    The reason why Proton have some Honda "styling" is because of a collaboration effort done by the two companies.

    • @wongcw08
      @wongcw08 3 года назад +1

      "Collaboration". Proton's Perdana (D segment) is part of a fleet agreement with with the Government of Malaysia. Based on a Misubishi model, it was ageing and sunsetted. But Proton needs a Perdana to be supplied to the government. So they took the precious generation Accord and rebadged it. Wholesale. And the next revision saw the model reskinned but basically an old Accord underneath.
      "Collaboration" explained.

    The reason some of us love Proton is because its not just a car it is a lifestyle ..ie Today its cheap run about the next day its a race car just adjusting its Campro Vvt engine buy useing a laptop ...if you want more info try google Proton R3 Motorsport ....Fyi thier race cars are very small ie The Saga(A sedan thats smaller than a Mitsubishi Mirage ) that comes with a small 1.3L with 98hp + 120nm R3dept managed to squeeze 208hp +232nm and lets not forget the Iriz (a Hatchback the size of a Honda Fit) it fitted with the same 1.3L as the Saga but its main powerplant is NA 1.6L that produce 109hp + 156nm that bump up to 230hp +250nm . These two cars were built fo the annual 1000KM Indurance race at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit .....its crazy seing small Proton's beat the hell out of Honda Jazz ,Integra and City and Toyota Yaris sedan , Yaris Hatch and Mazda's 2 sedan ....oh it is sick how Proton tunes thier cars ...and all these without a Turbo ...

    Proton was only a true car manufacturer in early 2000 with the production of Gen2 model fully designed inhouse after acquiring Lotus. Before that, Proton models were all rebadged Mitsu or Citroen cars with a little bit of restyling.

  • @justpoopeson
    @justpoopeson 3 года назад +2

    At the very beginning, proton partnered with mitsubishi hence the similarity in design and parts. At first it was a rebadge and slowly it became locally assembled at a 60% (locally) -40%(japan import) ratio, they ran through this system for all of the models within the partnership. Proton bought Lotus in 1996 where they produced one of the best handling cars (Satria GTI, GTI R3, Satria Neo etc). in 2017 proton (lotus included) sold part of their shares to Geely. The fact that Geely owns Volvo, Proton models like the x70, x50 and future models will now equipped with better tech.

    In 2017, close to half of Proton shares were bought over by a mega automobile company from Cina called Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. The new model which you saw is actually a rebadged version of Geely car. Of course with a little bit of tweaks in the design. Before that For a few years Proton were losing billions ringgit. There will more to come from Proton...they have access to leverage Volvo-Geely Tech as well they can provide Ride & Handling into Geely's own models....Proton downfall was due to bad management and political factors which make them very slow to grow as compared to Hyundai-Kia group....there are pros and cons of this situation but still our local talents may leverage the knowledge transfer among Geely group of companies...just my cents...

      The Malayan tiger is a ubiquitous national icon for Malaysia. depicted in the Coat of Arms of Malaysia, the nation. Malaysia's first national car, PROTON, has adopted the abstract tiger-head as its emblem and badge-mark for its cars.
