Very good info on obtaining Aeonaxx. One, thing though. I used to use NPCscan, but got tired of having to clear the cache if I was farming rares, since it only notifies you one time per rare. I tried Silver Dragon, and still use it. It does not have to have the cache cleared if you are a regular rare mob farmer and will notify you every time it scans a rare. you can also set it to ignore certain rares if you want, tell it to constantly scan for a specific rare (all you need is the npc id, you don't have to enter the name, it already knows it) and even for specific non rare mobs as long as you have the id. One drawback, is sometimes it gives false alarms, if a hunter is running around with a rare tamed pet and named it with the rare's name, such as Humar.
Great vid mate! had camped for him an hour or so before, same place that you show in the video. Then i just went there for fun to stand there while i was waiting for summon. 15 minutes there, was just accepting summon an BOOM! Npcscan goes off ! easy fight, cant fail, now i got my very own phosphoscerent stone drake. And like in the video, he spawned like 20yd away from me. Good spot that is :)
the one that shows the text in the center saying "entering combat" is MikScrollingBattleText. or in game you type /msbt and you can edit how your text looks and scrolls for different areas
He'll appear friendly at first, you fly towards him and your cursor should turn into one of those arrows giving you the option to mount him. Just right click when you're close enough for the arrow to turn green and you'll jump off your mount onto his back. He then becomes hostile and the battle begins :)
I'm really thankfull for this :) I stayed at that the eastern broken pillar while playing other games with a friend when he after maybe an hours camp popped up ^^
I got mine today at 7:28am while i was sleeping. Search Jeremiah - Hellscreen. Camped 15 Days. Spawned Outside SC - Ontop Of white Crystals. NPC Went off there was 2 people camping. I finnaly got lucky. Good luck to others :)
My friend was using NPCscan while camping the TLPD, he turned his speakers to max and was watching TV. Vyragosa spawned and the sound blew out his speakers! XD Costed like 300 bucks to replace them and needless to say he isn't camping TLPD anymore.
You kill it by right-clicking on Aeonaxx when in range. You will then jump on Aeonaxx's back and be able to DPS it down. You barely take any damage at all, so it's an all-out DPS fight until it is killed. Do not use any abilities that drop your threat or Aeonaxx will instantly despawn.
@TheAndy182 _NPCSCAN only works for the range around your character that you would be able to /Target, so dunno how many yrd's that is but probably around 45-50yards 360'c around your char. if u are looking for npc's that can spawn in diffrent areas you will still have to fly around for it. the thing the addon does is it removes the need of spamming a macro, it does it for you.
Thought I would take a break from camping to do a dungeon (which was in progress, only took about 10 minutes to finish), when I come back, NPCScan goes off, but he's no where in sight. Turns out some level 70 got him. Needless to say, my vocal chords were shot from the rage-screaming.
A few months ago i was leveling with my Warrior. He was just 82 and I went to Deepholm. I was there and my NPCScan alarmed instantly. So, i flew down to the ground, flew to the spawnpoint and killed Aeonaxx. No one killed him. He was there for 3 or 4 minutes. So, if you are able to go to Deepholm you can kill him (82+). :-)
You don't need to specify this to the updated version of NPCscan. If you have the overlay, blue highlights will mark his spawn points automatically. Also the spot you indicate finding him is along the path, although not on a spawn point, which is probably why nobody is having luck finding it where you did.
Congratulations on the easy camp. One correction - _NPCScan does not care what you enter in the 'name' field of an entry. It scans and targets strictly based on NPC ID. You could name his entry anything; the only thing this will affect is the name that will show up on your alert box. It will still scan and target Aeonaxx (or anything) appropriately. Aeonaxx has two NPC IDs; for friendly/mountable is 50062, for engaged/mounted is 51236. It is helpful to have the hostile ID in as well.
omg omg i was just watching your vid, hoped on my toon and boom he spawned in the same location. wth i raced for him but someone else hoped on before me :-( this girl is crying now but happy, he does exist.
You would need to use NPCscan or Silver Dragon. I tend to prefer NPCscan for the WoTLK/Cata rares. Silver Dragon is great for finding the Vanilla/BC rares, although you can plug particular rares to search for in to NPCscan.
@Mycenaea He flew around the outskirts of the temple...approximately in the same area as where I mounted, it was a circular flight path around the temple.
Talk about luck. On my hunter, I found Magria, Ban'thalos (2 rare spirit beasts from Mount Hyjal), Loque'nahak (one of the most rare spirit beasts in the game) and when I wanted to quest in Deepholm to quest so I could reach Jadefang, my NPC scanner suddenly found this dragon and I got the mount.
Just used portal to Deepholm this morning on my alt DK to grab Therazane tabard. Had some hardstyle music playing and laughing thinking it'd be funny if Aeonaxx was spawned. BOOM. NPCscan goes off. I fly to it on my 150% mount and the Stone Drake is now mine. :)
@Hyponikz Not true. Everyone can see the drake, but you can't see other players in other phases. This means that a player in phase 1 can mount it and a player in phase 3 can click it. Whoever is first will get mounted, the other player will get dismounted immediately
By the way, I have two questions: 1. What video settings do you have on Environment Detail and View Distance? From that pillar to the one to the north it's pretty far... I missed him even though someone mounted him right behind me. 2. What made you camp on the east side? Most reports are from the basin on the west side.

1) My environmental detail settings are on high and my view distance is on maximum(being able to see as far as possible is important for obtaining this mount when npcscan goes off!) 2) I cant really tell you why, I didn't do any research in attempting to find this mount. I started off flying randomly spamming a /target macro and then I found NPCscan and just kinda planted myself in this area!
There isn't aerial combat. If you fly through an enemy, they should aggro and you can fly them to a safer spot. In this case, you can try landing on a pillar, but its cramped.
Yes, it is always functioning whether you're in transit or standing still. However, NPCscan will not be able to help you kill it when you're away from the computer. :)

Was omw to Ulduar with guildies in Wrath when I saw something yellow in the sky - a Time-lost Proto Drake! at the time I didnt have NPCScan I got lucky and got the mount, I am determined to have this one as mine too!
Camped him 8 hours yesterday before patch went through.Got him today after patch went through....waited roughly 2 hours going back and forth between Stonecore entrance and to the north of it. He spawned to the north and flight path was counter clockwise heading towards Blood Trail. Now if I could only get TLPD.....
Out of pure boredom, I got online at about 10 pm server time. In less than twenty seconds, Aeonaxx spawned in front of me. I took him down in like two minutes. I felt amazing and happy.
@MrDontMakeMeSmile i'm guessing it's like Time-lost's spawn timer. Every 6 hours it has a SMaLL CHANCE to spawn, if it doesnt, you wait another 6 hours

I JUST GOT THIS!!!! Fucking can't believe it man. I'd been camping all day with no joy. So I sat my arse at NE1 and started doing cata dungeons. After I ported out the 2nd dungeon my NPC scan made a horn noise and my screen started flashing red, and there he was, Aeonaxx flying right infront of me. Still can't believe I got the drake. :D Clocked at 3 AM, EU - Silvermoon. Happy hunting fellas!
@Epicfailbanana445 no what he means is you left click on him. and when you start the figh your character should jump on top of Aeonaxx and you attack him from there.
Im new at this game, so I got a quick (maybe retarrded question for some people) question. What do you do, when you've spotted it with NPC scan? Do you run over to it and kill it or something? Aeonaxx, I mean.
I got even more lucky. I just went to Deepholm for the first time on my warrior, to level, at 82, and when I flied out of Temple of Earth, he just was there in front of me :)
@Vash1585 I only have epic flying on my toon - Im guessing that if you only have reg flying then you would just not be able to equip the mount, but he will still be obtainable.
just download, silver dragon addon from curse it tells u , show u the rare spawn, and will do a pip sound when he founds one , or like the guy said npc_skin , or both , gl ;D
I think I got pretty lucky, I camped for like 45 mins, and my friend wanted me to help him with something. So I landed on a floating crater and began to hearth, and then in the middle of my hearth it popped :D
NPC scan has no spawn area that corresponds to this location. I'm sure you got it there, but quite a few Aeonaxx resource pages do not list this as a possible spawn spot for Aeonaxx or Blood Seeker,

Its like Time-Lost Proto Drake. even today there are still not confirms about him sharing spawn timer with Vyragosa, or that he has a random timer, scheculed timer or like 6, 9 or 12 hours between kills. So actually, aeonaxx could've spawned there. So pease don't try and be cool and say this is wrong and shit because you don't know anything.
I feel even more lucky only camped for 10 min!:) got him on saturday and it was really cool killed him in about 30 sec as a mm hunter. Freaking epic mount too!
30 mins? -.- Think I'm on my third week camping, missed him two times and seen him mounted a couple of times. I'd just like to add: 1. Add his hostile ID too so you can spot him if someone is already riding him. If someone is already riding him there's no point in camping Deepholm for atleast the 4-6 hours after that. 2. You don't have to spell his name right. You can write whatever you want, as long as the ID is correct. Hostile ID is: 51236
The vid was a bit glitched. It kept sort of stopping or freezing so I had to skip ahead from time to time. Now are you supposed to jump on the spawn's back when you see him? And how exactly do you "fight" without getting dismounted? I was under the impression as soon as you click an attack it dismounts you from any mount?
@viewRoot Thats wrong. I got him and my friend who was phased from me, he could also see the drake, both of us didnt know what was happening, i clicked him and it mounted me, he whent hostile so i slowly killed him (boomkin lvl83) my friend who i could NOT see could also see Aeonaxx.

@Felcri1998 What the horn does is if the rare npc is near you, it will go. So if you're outside of deepholm it will not make a sound for Aeonaxx.
if you are talking of the mount, that drops in Stonecore off the 2nd boss, that's a nice 1% drop rater for you....

@MrFasag No, the NPC has to be within the yellow circle on your minimap. If you don't have that circle, you need to download NPC scan Overlay.

@MrInfoCompany Stone drakes were bugged at the start of cata and the rider would be misplaced, it was fixed after a couple months.

@Hyponikz try fullscreen windowed mode and make sure wow sounds are off except npcscan

@TheAndy182 You must be in the zone that the mob spawns in...so as long as ur in deepholm you will be fine!
If NPC Scan doesn't work google "SilverDragon" its basically the same as NPC scan but you can customize your sounds for npc appearances
@adycrevantyine it's not a but, it's called sandstone drake, thought by Vial of the Sands, it turns you into the drake

if u want have NPC Scan to work u most go in on opions befor u logg in on a caracter soon select npc scan

About npcscan. I think it already has aeonaxx in it when u first download it. And No the name doesn't need to match, only the npc id.

He spawns across all phases, not just in one, so everyone can see him, you just can't see people who are not in your phase.

You gotta clear your cache, go into your wow server, find the folder that says creaturecache or what ever and delete it.
You have to be in range of him. Basically, the all the addon does is spam "/tar Aeonaxx" for you.

Use Windowed Mode from the Graphics Options, guys, that way the addon will inform you and you can do a quick search.

It looks cool I guess, but honestly its just the Sandstone Drake but blue, and the Sandstone I see like everyday.
Anywhere from 5-24+ hours from my understanding. In reportings I have noticed a 6-18 hour spawn generally.
@jamiewheatley91 It's a level 85 rare elite. I'm pretty sure you can figure it out from that.

Oh, and when you mounted him, in what direction did he fly when the fight started? Crimson Expanse? Around the temple?
@viewRoot Thats wrong. I got him and my friend who was phased from me, he could also see the drake, both of us didnt know what was happening, i clicked him and it mounted me, he whent hostile so i slowly killed him (boomkin lvl83) my friend who i could NOT see could also see Aeonaxx.
