  • We are always testing new things, pushing our ponds to be better and BEST... unfortunately our attempt at giving our signature pond a sand beach didn't go so well. Luckily, Brian has a good idea of what we need to try next!

We used washed concrete sand in our pond. Definitely a bit more coarse. It doesn't move much at all, and still nice to walk barefoot on. Not muddy at all.

I was a bricklayer in the Chicago area, and we used Illinois brick a lot. They're an excellent company to work with. The silica sand you got looks like what we used to make white mortar, I feel it will be too fine for your purpose, but I'll wait to see how it works for you. My brother started the Airhart Construction company based in West Chicago. I hope some of his customers will become your customers, too.

I'm with you on the silica sand I think it's just too fine I think the crushed gravel that's turned into sand would work better it's heavier and would stay in place

That's such a nice format of a vlog! I was more than skeptical at first but in fact it's really interesting! I had no idea Brian was doing the drawings by hand... I always thought he was using a computer program :D
For your sand, maybe grains a bit bigger would do the trick?

What if you scrape back some quantity of the gross sand, and use the white sand on top because it’ll probably stick to that nasty sand? It probably will even change the texture of the gross sand as they mix a little over time.

You can use motion sensors like the ones used for flood lights in front of the tanks on the floor tied to the outlets for the aerators so they turn off as people walk in front of them.

My pond has a sand beach and bottom just use real sand. My pool also has sand bottom with normal pool filters. Both crystal clear. Would also suggest pre cleaning sand

Have you reached out to a local aquarium in regards to sand? I know in my saltwater aquarium at home I had different choices of sand depending on flow, which sounds like the same situation you are in. It's white and beautiful as well and is what is on those beached that you talked about.....just a suggestion

you need coarser, larger grains of sand with more weight if you want it to have a chance of working.

Why not rent out equipment to the customers so they can clean the pond themselves? Different levels and sizes of rentable equipment. Hand truck unit all the way up to a trailer unit. Make a repeatable style plan that the other CAC's can offer around the world. Some people just wanna do a quick scrub and clean before Grandma visits. They just do not have the proper tools to make it easy. Could even offer some of them for sale as an alternative to the fancy pond vacuums out on the market. Please Include me on this! I love R&D!

Note to self: If you call Team Aquascape to help you build your pond, DO NOT tell them your full budget amount. Always say your budget is $20-$40k lower than what you actually are willing to spend.

Wouldn't ground gravel that's turned into Sand work better and it wouldn't get sucked into the filter it wouldn't get slimy and most definitely would keep its shape and it's cheaper then if you would have to import sand from another country
