I found this very useful. Forgot I was given a pfm two years ago and haven't used it since. I have lost the instructions so was very grateful to have all the information. Thank you.

I play the trumpet so every time I use a peak flow meter, I break it! 🎺¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I suspect this type of monitoring could be useful for singers.

I just discovered that I get higher readings if I DO NOT use the narrow removable mouthpiece that comes with my meter and lower readings when I USE the mouthpiece. I think it's harder for me to blow while sealing my lips around the narrow removable mouthpiece hence why I get lower readings so now I'm noting two sets of readings and I can't find any info about this issue. I have no idea now which reading is actually the correct one? I think it's the higher reading without the mouthpiece but maybe the mouthpiece is designed to restrict in some way for some reason? Who knows? Probably need to speak to the manufacturer as I doubt if my asthma nurse will know.

That’s a good point! You probably should check with the manufacturer because it could make a difference.

@@BreatheBetterwithElizabeth Yes I'm getting readings like 530 with the nozzle and 610 (Which should be my normal reading for height etc) without, so quite a difference and at present I am noting both levels. My asthma nurse is going to love this. I guess no-one has ever tried this or questions it, so maybe comes from my tinkering engineering background. Maybe I have discovered a flaw in all of these testers and everyone has been getting false readings all along by using the nozzles? Wouldn't that be something, that would not really surprise me much. Maybe I will try and contact the maker as I don't see the nurse for anther few weeks.

@@BreatheBetterwithElizabeth I sent an email so lets see what if anything they say. I am curious also. Try it yourself and you will probably get different readings as probably would everyone else but I do get quite a large difference so obviously something is up. My model is a basic Mini-Wright Peak Flow Meter from Clement Clarke UK.

@@geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz Did they get back to you? I just got a peak flow meter test to do at home, but mine doesn't come with a mouth piece and now I'm wondering if my results are accurate or not.

How much are the little ticks in between numbers? Peak air starts at 100, 150, 200 etc. but what if the red arrow stops on one of the little lines in-between numbers. How do I read that number?
