To Rainbow defence, with a blunt out of nowhere "are we gay" even I can tell that a bad entry to a conversation and I not a conversationalist, if this happens to me I would ask for some development because this is not a question as straightforward and closed to what Applejack seems to think. Without prior context I would probably also ask if that a rhetorical question, then say that I could answer only from my individual perspective on gender preference(s), or if this is exclusively towards eachother and in this case that a confusing way to asking someone to a date.
I don't know is attempted genocide gay? because that's what they tried to do to an entire species in the episode bats. if it is then they would both be flaming gay. Otherwise, it sounds like Applejack is the gay one; and is propositioning Rainbow Dash for sex.
