    We are planning a very short trip this summer to NYC (in our RV) and we always take our doggos when we can. We have two golden retrievers. My question is, can you take them on public transportation systems? Like the subway and the fairies?

    • @SweetiePiePets
      @SweetiePiePets  Год назад +1

      Unfortunately, only small dogs are allowed on the subways and public transportation and they must be carried in a kennel/ bag that can sit on your lap. Maybe if you’re golden retrievers can fit in a kennel and you can place it on your lap then no one will say anything. 😅

    I don't live in Manhattan but I do live on the second floor of an apartment building and this is how I recently potty trained my Chihuahua.
    First, I purchased a 24 X 18 doggy crate and then put a doggy bed, a doggy blanket, and some doggy toys inside it. At the same time, I also purchased a 24 X 18 high sided solid plastic container in which using a hack saw, I then cut out an opening sufficient enough so my new Chihuahua can ingress and egress from it easily. Then I filled the bottom of it with a one inch layer of pine pellets to make that new plastic container my new doggy litter box.
    Next, with the puppy inside the doggy crate, I butted the door side of both the doggy litter box and the doggy crate together. As the idea was the puppy wouldn't soil the doggy crate side where its bed, blanket, and toys were and instead would enter the doggy litter box to eliminate, and guess what, it worked like a charm.
    I continued this routine for three weeks to ensure the puppy was fully trained only letting her out for bonding after I witnessed her recently eliminate. Then finally after three weeks, I slid the doggy litter box about a foot and a half from the doggy crate to give my puppy the new freedom of entering and exiting the doggy crate at her own discretion. At the same time, I monitored my puppy closely and every time she needed to eliminate she went to the doggy litter box.
    So each day that she was perfect with her elimination in the doggy litter box, I slid the doggy litter box closer and closer to the predetermined permanent doggy litter box place, which was in my bathroom.
    She has been eliminating in the litter box perfectly ever since. In fact, during that entire time, we never had a puppy mistake in my apartment.
    Meanwhile, the advantage of using a litter box is you don't have to worry about a schedule of when to let your dog out, if it is snowing or raining,, or if it is too hot or too cold. You can leave the puppy alone for extended periods of time and not have to worry about cleaning up messes. My puppy never goes outside so she never gets fleas or ticks or diseases other dogs have left behind.
    Furthermore, pine pellets are the litter material of choice. As you can buy a 40 pound bag of the stuff at Tractor Supply Company for $6.79 plus tax, and you'll probably go through about three bags a year. Pine pellets are odor free, so no smell. The way it works is when a dog or cat urinates on the pellets, the pellets disintegrate into sawdust. While solids remain at the top for easy scooping and then flushing down the toilet.
    Moreover, clean up is a breeze because I bought a sifting kitty litter box. So what I do is ensure there is no solid material remaining inside the doggy litter box. Then I empty the contents of the doggy litter box into the sifter and then return the doggy litter box to its permanent location.
    Next, I sift the contents in the sifter until there is no more sawdust remaining in the sifter, then I empty the sawdust from the kitty litter box below the sifter into the garbage. Don't worry, it's odorless except for the smell of wood. Then I replenish the pine pellets that were used. Usually about one scoop of pine pellets if enough to replenish the pine pellets that were used.
    After that, you are good to go. Put everything back up and wash your hands. I clean my litter box usually twice a week and it takes no longer than five minutes.

      I like the idea of pine pellets which seem more eco friendly than potty pads. Do you ever find your sweetie pie chewing on the pellets? That would be my only concern

    • @bullfrog5037
      @bullfrog5037 Год назад

      @@SweetiePiePets No, not yet but according to most vets, a dog would have to consume a whole lot of it first before it could possibly do harm.

    I was wondering wgat airline do you recommend? I was going to book a flight with American, but I heard they are not pet friendly. I have flown twice on Southwest and the gate staff was gave me an anxiety attack one my last trip. I thought I would be driving from Nashville to Florida. The flight attendant was amazing and told me to put my puppy on my lap and everything would be fine. I am nervous because I will flying from LAX to Florida and it needs to go well.

      I’ve had great experiences flying with chihuahuas on spirit, jet blue, southwest, delta, and United. Not sure about American Airline. Just make sure to check the pet rules because each airline has their own rules. Best of luck to you and your sweetie pie ❤️
