At the end you said that we if poision ratio and longitudinal strain are given than we can find lateral strain But without lateral strain how whould you calculate Poisson ratio???
Dear, we can't calculate Poisson's ratio without Lateral or Longitudinal strain, I agree but, to find magnitude of any 3rd value, there must be magnitude of atleast 2 values, eg: we know 4+2=6, here, without 4 and 2 there can't be 6 true though, now u know that here, 6-2=4, so mathematically they are interchanging the values ya magnitude, like I have 4 apples n u have 2 apples, final is 6 apples, now we keep the apples on table, now I get to know that u got 2 apples n table me 6 apples rakha hai to I must have but obviously got 4 apples, I was able to calculate this because I had two values, that is 6 - apples kept on table, 2 apples that were given to you n that's how I got to know number of apples I Had
