They do a lot of western songs, but not because they’re pushing this specific group into the west. It’s just how yg has been training their groups since forever.
-About using western song for trainee, there's some story and reason about that. YG have been doing that since the very first time. Teddy park, leader of 1TYM (the hip hop group and first generation of YG) and now executive producer of Blackpink was living and learned hip hop and rap in US before move to Korea. Bigbang (the first group to have a rapper), they inspired by western singer and rapper. That time, there's no rapper they can look up to in Korea for reference because korea not interest for hip hop style. -I think another reason is because kpop song really kpop-ish, it has its own vocal standard, mostly high pitch to fit electro dance genre. As long as you can dance while sing in high pitch live then you're amazing. Different with trainee in YG, they use western song for reference to fit their style and vibe because how diverse range of vocal and genre western song. That differences make YG artist mark their own style in korean industry. General korean public call it YG style because how unique the singer vocal are to other kpop group.... they have nasally, husky, raspy, Alto etc. I don't need to explain about rapper reference here because they will always cover western rapper hehe. -Another reason is... this is my opinion after i talk about music with my lil brother. The trainee prefer cover western song because not just the diversity of vocal range and genre but also they can train to make fully potential vocal in golden vocal range... after they master it, they step up to another level range or find new potential... for example alto vocalist, they can try higher range or try rapping. So YG trainee not trained to fit the standard kpop has, but they need to explore their own style. that's how YG find his future artist.... not just a talented one but a person who work hard to become better everyday and of course the one who can surprise YG every month lol

In YG all Monthly Evaluations are Western Songs bcuz it is required. Also the girls singing those song their trainers suggested it for them so that it will fit their voices better.
YG Yang Hyun Suk loves Western music that's why since BIGBANG'S era until now they all used a lot of western music plus their hip-hop artists rappers & producer mostly love Western music too I think TEDDY is half American too & Jinu from JinuSean rap duo was also half...
YG trainee mostly learning in western songs even tho they don't speak english since a long ago its cuz YGstyle also more into western style specially when its comes to Hiphop+R&B YGent is really known for that. If u watch their old trainee video like Trainee Blackpink, TREASURE & IKON u can see that it ls just how YGent is & different company/agency also have their own or different trainee sistem.
We saw 6 members and at least 5 of them are trilingual, fluently. This new generation just make the world more difficult for the grown up like us to live in. Hahahaha C'mon girls, you can't be genius and talented at the same time. Please pick one. Leave some space for the ordinary like me. >

The vibes I get are super supportive and nurturing vs what we all too often see in the West as cutthroat. All parties come across so pleasant and supportive and positive from their interactions.
