- Wrestlers Speak about the Von Erich Family
Wrestling Legends and WWE Hall of Famers speak about the "WWE Hall of Fame" Von Erich Family who have a tragic story of 5 or the 6 boys of father Fritz passed away before him. 3 of the sons omitted suicide while another drowned after suffering an electric shock and another died from an issue with his intestines.

Kevin is an inspiration. No matter what people may say about how he was or what happened with his family, it takes a ton of heart and will to keep moving forward after what he went through. 5 brothers dead. 3 who committed suicide. A father that pretty much told him to do the same.
Instead, he perservered, stated with his wife from day 1 and proceeded to be a great father and grandfather. That's one hell of a man.
"You dont see vince McMahon beating stone cold.. if vince had the same attitude as all those other guys, there wouldn't have been no Stone Cold." Lmao damn Tony! Tell em! Lol, man that's great and wise beyond belief!
Yeah he nailed that..
"If I had a dad like that I would have been fucked up on drugs too." Billy Jack Haynes on Fritz von Erich
@@diablo666541 Didn't Billy Jack go to Prison for Drugs . Yeah he's one to talk
Haynes is delusional. Taking anything he says seriously, make you look foolish.
@@robertrodriguez787 Billy Jack must have done drugs to get that Ann Jillian haircut
@@testodudeI thought the same thing. Did he walk in to the barber with a can of Dutch Boy paint? Nice locks there Prince Valiant. Eesh.
Tony Atlas tells the best stories. I love this channel!! I have been binge watching all day
Tony Atlas on Boston wrestling are the best videos on wrestling right now
Hell yea he definitely has the best
There’s a video of Tony Atlas talking about Bruiser Brody getting murdered in Puerto Rico. It’s heartbreaking. You can tell he was scared and freaked out about getting out of Puerto Rico alive.
Really? I like Teddy, but I dont rank him in even the top 15 of wrestler shoots. Maybe in the 15.........

On the Heroes of World Class DVD, Kevin told a story how when he was the only brother left alive Fritz said to him "if you had any guts you'd kill yourself like your brothers did". Kevin is a real survivor.
That is sad
@@JoeJoe-jx9vv Extremely 😰
Fritz was suffering from brain cancer when he said that
Kevin said it don't take guts to kill yourself, it takes guts to live. And he said that right back to Fritz when he said that to him
Wow...😔
Hurt people hurt people..
When my father was 15 he went to play basketball with his friend and his little brother Joey was 8 and wanted to tag along but like kids do, my dad told him no because he just wanted to hangout with his buddies so his little brother stayed behind.
While dad was gone, Joey was playing and swinging on a motor hoist and it tipped over on him and killed him.
Almost like Johnny Cash and his brother, in the following days my grandfather blamed my dad for his brother's death.
"Why wasn't he with you!?
You should've been looking out for your little brother!"
My mom told me about that part. My dad just told me his little brother died from an accident when he was 8😔
Tony Atlas stood the test of time. So many from his era have passed away.

Larry Zbysko was one the greatest heels. Man, I hated that guy as a kid.
The Living Legend
i hated to even look at him lol
"Had bad cravings for tater tots when he called us 'spudheads'...."
Larry never looked like a wrestler, which was unusual back then. He was a great announcer too.
So did I, he was so abrasive and worked the camera and audience so well, one of the great heels for sure. So great to see him laughing and out of character. Just from that clip it looks like the guy has a great sense of humor!
I like Tony Atlas's shoot interviews. It's good to still have him with us.
streetsofsouthphilly he tells the truth when others backpedal or outright lie.
Yeah, being a huge power lifter too, and still alive today... Is a credit to his health and persona
Jake was wrong about Chris. Chris wanted to wrestle. He just physically couldn't keep up. Mike is the one who didn't want to wrestle but got pressured into it.
Chris should've been a " traitor "to his brothers, for money and jealousy, n became a heal manger. Then later goes good n helps his brothers after a bloody match. Then Chris could've transitioned to booker n occasional cameo. Mike could've done Japan with occasional house stuff
Chris never had a chance with early drug addiction, a train of tragedy, and health problems.
If you can make Jake Roberts say WTF then your seriously messed up!
I celebrated my 55th and 56th birthdays while Jarrett told his story.

Tony was spot on about all the territory bookings. I mean come on, Lawler never lost - and look at him.
Frfr…
What Tony Atlas said about the territories booking vs WWF is true and insightful.
Facts
I really feel like if Kerry let it be known and didn't hide that his foot was gone the fans would have loved him even more seeing what he was able to do with one foot
Yeah ... But his pride got in the way
I don't know. Kerry had the look of a wrestler more so than his brothers. A prosthetic foot back in them days, especially in Texas would've labled him a freak.
Back then Kerry wouldn't have been allowed to compete. There were regulations on people with disabilities performing.
Nobody wants to see a gimp addict hop around and pretend to be a wrestler
Nothing but respect for Tony Atlas--always tells the truth.
Straight Up
How do you know?
Yep, Ron Garvin said the same thing bout Dusty Rhodes
I think he’s insufferable on DSotR. 🤷
He’s a dirty liar
Ron Fuller was like Ole. He didn't mind others being bigger than him, Robert and Jimmy. Armstrong, Idol and LeDuc are proof.
Imagine your father saying to you, If you had any guts you'd kill yourself like your brothers did. Saying that to Kevin. What a disgusting and horrible thing to say to your son. I can't imagine saying something like that to my kids. Mind boggling to say the least.
Fritz had a severe brain disease when he said that, he was battling brain cancer and unresolved grief. Fritz with a sound mind wouldn't have said that to Kevin in other circumstances.
Nakita would’ve been totally badass as Drago. He was unbelievably scary back in the day.
Jerry jarret story is unbelievable. So sad what happened down in Dallas.
Tony Atlas is probably the most truthful wrestlers I've ever seen.
Warrior aired some shit out too... stone cold is fair but he will sugar coat stuff...
I agree with what he said about promotions and territories run by families. He just forgot to mention the Harts.
Chicago dog1988 WORD.
Nope
Damn that Jerry Jarrett story blew my mind 5am I'm speechless, learned something new
That was seriously profound stuff. Just pure business. They were getting $20-$30 grand a MONTH and couldn't keep it together. That's more than most of us will see in almost our whole lifetime as working class people.........I had drug problems as a younger man too, but the way it worked out for me, I could STILL have flourished with a salary like that. I would have just been a functional addict (which I was for years) with a large bank account.
The waste and excess just sickens me to my core.
@UCwcv-t0NIDT617A22XIRQIQ that was a lot of money back then same as now...that was like half a mill a year to today's money ...fuking retards... Got greedy
Came here cause I thought I spotted B. Brian Blair. Killer Bees. And got a great Jerry Jarrett story. The good ol' days.
Tony Atlas man I respect you so much even tho you broke my heart by telling who my favorite wrestler killed someone (invader #1) but told everything you tell history
Met Tony Atlas a few times at the Coliseum as a kid… one time I got his autograph on a ticket because I didn’t have anything else and he was like “how I’m supposed to sign that little piece of paper!”
Billy Jack:"If I had a dad like Fritz, I would have been o n drugs to!" Ummmmm
The pot calling the kettle black.
WOW.. I REMEMBER B. BRIAN BLAIR WRESTLING IN ST.
LOUIS IN THE 80'S ALONG WITH THE VON ERICHS.. GREAT MEMORIES
Al Perez looks good not all used up
Very sad about the Von Erichs. I heard many negative things about the father. Most people speak kindly of the boys in terms of their personalities but their addictions and mental health was always a problem
Your right, the stories I've heard they all said they were good kids, but Fritz was an abusive shit head who put a huge amount of unfair pressure on them
That was some really great wrestling back then - I enjoyed that more than the wrestling now...
Poor Von Erichs very sad ending. I enjoy watching them & The Freebirds..
I grew up in Dallas. There has never been any wrestling, before or after, than the Von Erich’s Freebird feuds. The Von Erich’s almost seemed like family watching them for all those years. It is sad.
Michael Hayes was called upon to be The Special Ref when he cost Kerry Von Erich his chance on Christmas night 1982 in Dallas to dethrone Ric Flair as NWA World Champ. Ten months before in Florida Kerry and Kevin actually worked Heel on behalf of Flair to cost then Bruce Reed his opportunity. And to bring it all full circle in 1984 at Texas Stadium Kerry Von Erich finally pinned Ric Flair to become the new NWA World Champ!🤔🎤🤼♂️B.W.
@@scottaustin4035 I would’ve killed to go to the sportatorium around that time
Oh that Tony Atlas....what he says always seems to add up.
Loved the Jerry Jarrett story at the end.
I think Jake meant to say Michael not Chris. Chris wanted to wrestle and Michael did not.
Exactly !
Theirs been a lot of crack smoked since that time.
Man, it would have been terrible to know that your own father said such bad things about you. Even if the comments are true, it doesn't make it hurt less. Thanks, Mr. Jarrertt, for tell us the story.
Yes, Fritz was the downfall of all the boys. It is such a sad & tragic story. The fact that Kevin made it is a miracle to be honest. If Fritz had not been so dead set on hogging the spotlight for him and his sons & actually shared some of it with the other wrestlers that teamed up with the Von Erichs there is no telling where Texas wrestling would have gone. There is also no telling how high (no pun intended) his sons would have succeeded. Fritz was just too bull headed and power hungry. You could say he used his sons as much as he used the other wrestlers.
Love me sum Atlas-Speak

I believe Tony Atlas story.
I agree it seems like the territory days that's how it was
Tiger: what Atlas said, I'am sure was true. However when I was a kid in the 60's growing up in Fort
Worth, and a Fritz Von Erich fan, there were quite a few times that Gary Hart and the Spoiler(Don Jardine) won matches, along with the Brute and Mike Padousis who would also beat Fritz and "Red" Lyons. Really upset me....Couldn't wait the next week for a rematch. Still remember the GREATS !!!!!!!!!!!
tigerconway here and on Brody. Straight truths.
It was Mike that got forced into the business , not Chris . Chris was cchomping at the bit to be a wrestler and was way too brittle to be one .
No he did wrestle. He just hurt himself multiple times wrestling.
Bro you have amazing editing! The timing has me dying laughing with some of these guys.....
"Kevin started Vomick!"
Sad story. They deserve longer video than the 15 minute documentary ESPN has for them
It was announced in Jan this year that a director is going to do a movie on the Von Erich family. It is going to be great bringing this tragic and yet legendary family story to life.
@@deanncoates8456 Awesome. Living in the DFW area they were royalty here.
Dark Side of the Ring had a great episode about them that featured Kevin at his estate in Hawaii that Brian Blair talked about.
I remember when Skip Bayless even said they were bigger than the cowboys
Prime 1950s Fritz vs. Prime Billy Jack would have been a good shoot. Fritz was strong as a bull plus a top level athlete but I always heard Billy Jack had some great hands.
He said that he sparred with Jerry Quarry and I think it is a valid story, he may have been a golden gloves boxer in Oregon which isn't a hotbed for Boxing but still impressive. At a Legit 260lbs I think he was if the story about Quarry is true and the confrontations he had with wrestlers all true with him usually coming out on top I would take him in straight up boxing match against any wrestler including Haku. No Wrestler would ever beat Quarry in a Boxing match or straight up fist fight NONE, watch the Jerry Quarry vs Ernie Shavers fight on youtube if you don't believe me.
@@jasonkessler7321 Yeah Quarry was a bad sonovabitch, he just happened to fight in the greatest heavyweight era ever.
Brock Lesnar Ken Shamrock and Tank Abbott all kick the shit out of Quarry. And Ken would probably out box him. Or Special Guest Referee Iron Mike Tyson lol
You're crazy ...lol billy would fucking smash Fritz even in his prime
Casually listening and not watching when I hear someone say he’d bash Fritz. I look over and see this little guy with a bad haircut talking. I laugh and think sure you would. So I back up the video to see who this fool is. When I realize it was Billy Jack I laugh at myself. He would have and no one would have stopped him.
Lmaoooooo
I used to love the Von Erics growing up. Never knew any of this. Some of these stories are unreal
In the thumbnail... for a minute there, I thought Brian Blair was Bryan Cranston.
Cranston is the one who knocks Blair is the one who buzzes.
lived in Dfw AREA from 1966 until 1993 World Class Championship Wrestling was a Big Deal and Now Kevin Von Erich is a Twitter Follower lol
Tony is right. When Chris Adams started to become bigger than them they got mad at him.
Remember that
SO DAMN TRUE !!!!! They held back Chris Adams & Iceman Parsons.
I'm not surprised I was more of a fan of Chris Adams and Iceman Parsons than I was of The Von Erichs
That's a flat-out lie according to Gary Hart they actually built him up to be competition with the Von Erichs they didn't bring him down but they brought him up revisionist history is what you're talkin about
I beg to differ, Adams made good business being a face and a heel. He was an American champion, and received title shots against Ric Flair. Wrestling angles do not last. If the Von Erichs and Dusty Rhodes are over in their backyard that’s how it was ...
You don’t water the plants prior harvest to minimize rot in the early stage of drying.
Jerry Jarrett was a genius. I had a lot of respect for Jerry. A true wrestling business man. I didn't care for Jeff. I think if Jerry had total control of World Class add in Memphis of course and if Jerry could have gotten AWA away from Verne that business would still be in business. That is how much I think about Jerry Jarrett as a wrestling business person.
A little Jerry Jarrett goes a long way with me
Bill Dundee: When you're smaller than me your itty-bitty.
✊😂
See I agree with Tony is that Vince allows certain people to rise above he's not as controlling as he was like recently and that's why I would make a comment about that he's older and he knows what he's. But it's certainly not the same anymore it's completely different ballgame and I'm glad
How did Kevin afford such an expensive piece of property? From what I know, Fritz's business was absolutely broke. Pam's family must be loaded.
mrbobevans -Kevin sold the WCCW catalog to Vince. Additionally, Fritz & Doris invested quite well and lived pretty frugally. Kevin inherited everything, if memory serves.
@@mab1959 He is sole survivor Vince over paid for the library. Fritz owned the house and property outright. Sad to say being the only survivor paid off for Kevin.
That's just one more dark layer to that story that most people don't ever really fully go into. Fritz didn't lose most of his money with World Class. It starts like this: Fritz made millions off of his sons, overlooked all of their bad behavior and addictions and allegedly fired anyone who tried to bring it up to him the fact that they were spiraling out of control because every card needed to advertise a Von Erich. Advertise being the key word, actually having them show up was another thing altogether when things started to get bad.
It ends like this: When World Class started going downhill, Frtiz started backing out and sold I believe at least half of the business to Kevin and Kerry. He later sold his remainder to Jerry Jarrett and basically left his dysfunctional sons holding the bag. There was a lawsuit over it that Kevin filed against the Jarrett's. Just one final sad episode of "Fritz Von Erich, father of the year". Or maybe that was when Fritz told Kevin he should kill himself.
@@TNAROHfanthanks for the back history, I didn’t know ,Fritz seemed like a real pos , in the 80s I remember watching Kevin and Kerry and they were fkn awesome
@@alexvigil29 Frits being a POS seems to be the general consensus, but it was admirable that he told Jarret the truth about his sons! He was so sure it would end badly, he washed his hands of the whole deal! Seems kinda honest, at least that once!
Jake must have been stoned. Mike was NOT the best wrestler in the family, and Chris wanted to wrestle more than anyone in the family
Tony Atlas a truthman man
Von Erichs story is sad cause they were FORCED to wrestle and to include what Jake was saying it wasn't Chris it was Mike who didn't want to be a wrestler and he was the only undefeated Von Erich til this day.
Correct on Mike not wanting to wrestle. He wanted to help the family business behind the scenes be it booking, cameras, producing, etc. Fritz would have non of that. And poor Chris, he wanted nothing more than to wrestle but had Brittle Bone Syndrome. I believe Fritz was the downfall of all of his sons. Kevin has the heart of a warrior.

Wow Jerry Jerrett's spot at the end-- I believe it 100% World Class was hot... they had a strong base down there-- at one point they were on ESPN-- If I remember correctly-- Vince had taken over but with Jerrett and his ties w/ Lawler and some talent from Tn. who knows-- he said Kerry & Kev were both getting 20-25k a month in what 1987-- then they weasel out of the agreement- for what another 8 % each... by getting a lawyer to sue under the grounds that they are ignorant-- gimme a break- that territory may have went on for some time--
