I'm a member of this church and just a back story on this. The grandfather is actually suffering from a mental disorder (dementia or similar) and was attempting suicide by cop. It is still unknown as to how he came to be in possession of the firearm, HE DID NOT attempt to hurt any church goers, he is doing better now and is still a member of that church. I FULLY appreciate the efforts of the law enforcement officers to do him the least harm possible.🙏 I would have like to see them try to tackle him because of how he was holding the weapon but I realize that is not always ideal.
Glad he got the help he needed!
The Lord's will be done, I'm glad he survived and is getting the help he needs ✝️
Prayers for that man and your congregation
Thank you for the update.
iglesia ni cristo is a crazy cult. your own leaders trying to kill each other for control and money. do all members still "voluntarily" donate 10% of their income to the cult? 😂
Thats so sad his family clearly loves him by the way they are screaming, he must be a good man, depression is a horrible illness really
A member of his congregation said it’s actually dementia or something similar. Not depression
@@buisbo1240the man had a handgun. You can’t assume that every crazy person with a gun has no intention of killing you. Contrary to popular belief, it is stupid to assume things in a deadly line of work.
Per police training, the officers were simply scaling their firepower with the threat.
@@buisbo1240tell us you know nothing
The distance that lies between suicidal intent and homicidal intent is exactly half a heartbeat. An unstable person holding a firearm and not responding to police orders is very serious.
Not if you're holding the gun in a way that it can't even be fired. (edit.. Sorry, not if you're CLEARLY holding the gun in a way that it can't even be fired.)
@@deucedeuce1572 ....changing his grip on that pistol would also take approximately HALF A HEARTBEAT. What the Hell are you even saying here? Oh, he was holding the pistol in a way it can't be fired so I guess there was absolutely no reason for the police to be there in the first place. I suppose the man could have walked into a school too? No problem. Suicidal people are in no way whatsoever a threat just as long as the weapon in their hand isn't gripped in a threatening manner. Makes perfect sense. Thanks, genius.
Damn,he gave grandpa a second chance at life props to the officer 😎
And yet his decision might lead to him getting disciplined... What a hard job to do.
Years ago , Here is Columbus Ohio. We had a SWAT OFFICER shoot a gun out of a guy's hand while sitting in a lawn chair
Why wasn't less lethal used or for that matter why didn't someone just tackle him the guy wasn't even holding the gun in a way that he could use it
Exactly, I think he was giving up the gun and was clearly very old and unwell.
Gotcha. Ill let the department know next time they are in this spot to call you so you can run and football tackle the guy with the gun😂 idiot backseat quarterbacks. These officers have families at home. noone should be forced to charge and tackle someone with a gun for a pay check. He made the selfish choice to advance on officers with a gun. He deals with the consequences. And since your the genius here with a plan. What happens if one of the officers goes for the tackle and he panics and grips the gun properly. Now you turned what is a potentially fatal shot to the leg into a certain volley of gunfire to protect the charging officer. Go back to your air conditioned office job libtard
Props to the other officers not dumping their mags after that first shot like ive seen in other videos
Perfect response from the cops.
They operated with dignity and respect for life.
I hope he got the help he needs 🙏
That cop really didn't want to shoot him. Bravo for getting the job done without taking a life unnecessarily.
Anyone else remember the old video of the guy in the chair holding a gun down...sniper shoots it out of his hand? We needed that guy!
So, I was trained as a civilian and took multiple classes on Texas law as well. I was always told that you are supposed to "shoot to stop the threat" not necessarily to kill. If he was justified in taking the shot, why would you discipline him for not attempting the kill?
My morals tell me that I should only go for the kill if I have to and that if there are other options, I should consider them. Assuming that he was justified in taking the shot, I agree with his decision to not go for the kill.
Unfortunate that the bullet went through both legs, I hope he makes a full recovery and i’m glad the church still accepts them and I hope his family continues to help him with his problems
a full recovery mentally is far more important than his possible new physical limitations. He might have been due for a wheelchair soon anyway with the cane
These cops were acting way too scared. With the way that old man was holding the gun they could've just walked up and taken it from him, or shot him with a beanbag instead of a bullet.
A taser could have been used,,, go look how close they were to him,,, smh
@@thepolishredneck3941 tazers are more risky because they only work 50% of the time they're deployed, which can cause people to get more aggressive, and with the person being elderly it poses a significant risk of causing a heart attack.
He asked to be shot, **officer shoots** and he cries like a baby 😂
A well timed tackle, or a beanbag shotty would have probably been a better choice imo but I guess they have their protocol to follow. Im super glad the officer had the wisdom and judgement to shoot him in the leg instead of going for a vital shot placement.
Make sure you post a video on your disarm tactic on a real live threat.
I like the fact this cop saved his life. Was a gift to his family. 👍
Without communicating to the other officers about the course of action of shooting the legs, I'm very surprised the other officers didn't both mag dump the old man.
I think we need more hand to hand combat trainings needed... but yes please please check up on that man and get him some help ! But this was well done the whole group didn't blast him like 200+ times
he had a gun tho?
@@mattcasey609 So. Do you not know that bearing arms is a RIGHT. He also had the gun in a way he could not fire it and especially could not fire it immediately and by LAW there has to be an IMMEDIATE THREAT to use deadly force... and a gun shot is Always lethal force. I won't be surprised (or sad) if the cop is charged for excessive force.
Imagine the outrage if the officers punched him tho. There really is no winning here
@@deucedeuce1572Having a gun in your hand is an immediate threat regardless of who you are, as soon as you underestimate someone like that, you’re in danger, it’s completely counter intuitive to approach someone with a gun and use hand to hand combat, but i will say i agree the use of force was excessive, and less than lethal should’ve been used in this situation
That’s not how a real situation works
I feel like a bean bag to the guys leg would have been just as effective.
Thought he was disoriented for a min and felt bad for him then I heard him say " shoot" .... Ok
The fear in his grandson's voice is heartbreaking, watching, pleading and being completely helpless..
Best wishes to the family
This is personally how i feel about this situation. I wouldnt have been comfortable getting close enough to try a taser or pepper spray or anything like that, i think they could have used a bean bag, square in the diaphram, head, back of knees, something like that would have probably been good just because the cane, he clearly cant walk very well, but ultimately, i think he did probably the best thing without any less than lethals. I think this is (in my civilian opinion lol) perfectly justifieable use of the firearm in a less than lethal manner, yea it could have been lethal just because ya know, its a bullrt in ya. But they responded extremely quickly, got the tourniquet on the legs quick, i hope this cop doesnt get fired for this. Its a bit unorthodox i feel but it was effective and noone died. So its a job well done in my book.
I hope he is fired and charged. It was excessive force and he used lethal force for a non-lethal situation when there was no immediate threat, which is REQUIRED for a cop to ever use a firearm against a person. The man was holding the gun in a way that he could not have shot anyone with it. (especially not in an immediate fashion). He definitely wasn't going to one hand spin flip the gun grip into his hand and then start shooting people, not even if he wanted to.
@@deucedeuce1572 no one cares about your opinion, stop replying to every comment and get a better hobby
absolute midwit take i would've walked right up to this guy
Bro really sounds like Peter when he scrapes his knee🤣🤣🤣
The first time I've ever seen an officer make an attempt to not kill a person, and get punished for it
"while they encounter this man with a gun in his hand" I swear sometimes I think you low-key a MC lol😂
I just think they should of had a bean bag/less lethal out as well it probably would of worked the same but not as lethal
Yup... Hit the gun with a beanbag....then rush him..
@@jamesfox9922 would be cool to see but this is not hollywood . to inaccurate i think center mass would do it or even in the leg would make him fall and drop it
I’m willing to bet he didn’t try to shot the gun out of his hands because there was nothing to stop the bullet and God only knows what and/or who that round could have hit
You can clearly see couple seconds later black SUV casually leaving parking lot exactly from the place bullet would fly if he miss that shot.
The exact same can be said for the round that he shot at his leg. Could have hit someone. It was an unjustified shot, using lethal force against a man who was not an immediate threat. (and he didn't give a shit about his back-stop).
Through and through each leg…that’s a powerful gun
What's unusual is that these cops quickly closed in on the subject restrained and provided medical aid, normally you can expect this guy to bleed out after he is shot as they shout instructions and wait an hour for fifty cops and shields to be on scene

Geez, walk up and take it from him for God’s sake!

I think he made the right call.
U can hear it in the officer’s voice he did not want to hurt that dude at all. He was dam near in tears it sound like.
that would've been the perfect scenario to use a bean bag gun to knock the gun out of his hands
Need more officers like this
The bad guy actually said: "you got me" just like in the cartoons. Good work by the officer who shot. They gave him many warnings, he didnt listen, then it was time to act. He didnt kill the guy, ended the situation fairly fast. And now the perp knows gun shots hurt A LOT, so he probably wont try that again.
Bad guy? Really? A suicidal man is a bad guy? You have a few screws loose. I hope your family member never goes through that.
The people who always say "You could have shot him in the leg" are either going to say "See I told you" or Why didnt you shot the gun" and either of those responses are going to pass me off even tho IM THIS CASE it worked out.
Yeah, using excessive, lethal force against a man who is not an immediate threat is "it worked out".
It’s not about doing what is right, it’s all about doing what is on papers in this line of work.
Sadly... Your half right. The family could very have a very strong case in suing the department, now if he would have shot and killed him, case closed no defense for the family/man
It's about following the laws and the policy... and this cop did not. He used lethal force against a non-lethal threat. That's called "excessive force". Shooting a person in the leg IS lethal force as any force that is likely to cause serious bodily injury or death is lethal force... so any use of a firearm is Lethal Force. It was 100% unjustified and excessive.
@@deucedeuce1572 dude had a gun
There is no court precedence stating where an officer must aim. This was a situation that per graham v Connor deadly force was justified. The officer made a decision to use deadly force in a capacity that would possibly save the deranged man’s life, and succeeded. It is absolutely okay to do so. My worry is this instance being used as “proof” that this an applicable technique in other circumstances. Also, I’m gonna assume aiming for the gun was more difficult as it was more mobile than the planted foot.
LL definitely would have been a great option though
I disagree a little with one suggestion- shooting the gun vs his knees, the backdrop of the gun is much less advantageous than the backdrop of the knees
You should of titled this “perp brings all the long boys to the yard 😂”
Thank you that was lovely
LAPD would have certainly granted that man his wish of a head shot.
Good I hope he feels that for the rest of his life
Well, they always say why couldn't you just shoot him in the leg. Probably because it doesn't mean it's going to stop the fight and because you don't shoot to injur you shoot to stop the threat, pluse they might potentially go after this police officer for shooting him in the leg when he maybe maybe wasn't a deadly threat?? I don't know. This one definitely has a lot to take in and learn from. Thanks john for all you do and the real world lessons you teach all us. You are definitely the most consistent in bringing us real world, this is how it real goes down information and being dead on point with it. RESPECT.
Fuck man the guy who got shot wasnt even screaming that lady should have been arrested for disturbing the peace
Not the smartest uncle in the world 😂
Considering the circumstances, the cops handled it very well.
John…just like you I am from Brazil as well and we all know deep in our hearts that is definitely a situation for a good leg or foot shoot, just like an education bet down…you know that I know that you know right?! 👍👊
I am not from Brazil.
@@ActiveSelfProtection your dad or mom would agree with me…my daughters pretty much like yourself not so much so.
good to see them using their brains for once too many situations like this end in the guy gettin mag dumped and dying like they wanted to
I thought about whether the officer could have hit the gun. The problem was the there really didn’t seem to be a safe backstop at that angle.
People saying that the police should have shot the gun out of his hand are just...delusional. You guys watch too many movies.
Ask yourself this question, would you rather be shot in the leg or chest?
his grandson was just so worried i’d be the same way yk jus so sad man he was so hurt when he saw the shot go off im glad grandpa made it and hopefully gramps is staying solid
I think the officer performed his duties perfectly. He was able to stop the threat with a single shot. And everybody including the perpetrator live to see another day. The officer remain calm was level-headed the entire altercation and performed his dutie's flawlessly.. I commend the officer for not taking this man's life.. and the officer should not face any consequences for the route he decided to choose to go in this situation.
By shooting a man who wasn't a threat? ...and by shooting him in the leg Proving that he Knew the old man wasn't a threat? He used excessive force and that is not performing his duties perfectly.
Elderly man, clearly distressed holding a gun upside down pinched w 2 fingers... you think that warrants getting shot... I am thankful one thing.. that you are not an officer; good thing you dont get paid to think... you would be broke.
That wasn't necessary he wasn't holding the firearm in a threatening way. Should have used non lethal would have worked fine on an old man.
I gotta say for a man who got shot and is elderly. He took that shit like a champ. Even wasn't crying that much about it. Hot damn.
Bean bag round would have been great for this situation.
wait why did they shoot him. he only had pinch hold on the weapon. WTF
Y’all act like he can’t just get a good grip and start shooting at any time. Even if he only did have two fingers on it

Im sorry but I just keep thinking of that time Peter hurt his knee.. well.. that, and that turtle moaning.
Man, blowing someone’s knees out is a lifetime of pain. I don’t know why more police stations aren’t utilizing “BolaWraps.” One could’ve came in handy in this particular situation and been the difference between blown out knees and scuffed up ones.
Yeah. I think it was ridiculously unjustified, excessive force. I'm in shock that people are congratulating the cop as if what he did was good. there's a reason that he was the Only cop that shot. It's because they all knew he wasn't an immediate threat... and then the one cop that did shoot shot him in the leg, Proving that he Knew that the old an was not an immediate threat. This cop went outside the law and policy and I think he should be charged for it. Old man probably just wants to die more now than ever too. Let's just add unnecessary physical suffering to the list of pain this man has to endure for the rest of his miserable life.
the guys on the ground had the tactical understanding of the situation and personally I think it was a great outcome. the only real area for improvement was the spoken commands and the fact nobody tried less lethal first.
Thanks for the analysis guys. Seems like Mike' mic wasn't on at the beginning. Happens frequently. The video cuts short, no outthrow.

@@mitchkinney7662 I work at the Network Operating Center of an ISP, I teach people how to manage the network. Are you involved with the production of the videos?
Sounds like Peter griffin with the “ahhh”
“Tried to use his rifle as a less lethal tool” well argumentatively this particular officer didn’t try. He in fact used and deployed his PR as a less lethal tool to avoid suicide by cop. While we don’t condone using a rifle as a less lethal because of the fact it is a lethal tool. This officer demonstrated excellent aim. Avoided cross fire. And took out his suspect without ending his life. Rather grandpa die in-front of his grandson? Lethal force=Lethal Force. While the possibility outcome could have been grandpa was dead. That was not factually the outcome. And there for the woulda coulda shoulda band wagon is null in void. And I am sure this officer knew the likelihood of the old man dying from a singular gun shot. The fall alone at that age could have taken that old man out. However he did his best to avoid a death. And he successfully avoided that outcome. Get over yourselves
That cop really wanted to safe his life and gave him a non leather one tab.
Can you imagine thinking your dad just got killed like that right in front of you? That would have been a hell of a emotional roller coaster to see your dad shot, think he was shot dead but later he informed “oh no, we got him in the leg. I wasn’t going to try to drop him.”
This is deadly force. In Texas, deadly force is legal to stop someone who is attempting self harm. But... deadly force does not mean the use of a firearm. It could mean the use of force that might harm someone but was done to preserve his life.
Shooting an old man who is mentally ill is not okay. Kudos to this officer for not killing him.
It happens everytime, that bullet hit em, they get some sense
He got just what he wanted. Listen to those satisfied moans.
This is why departments should have tools like the 40mm less lethal launcher which likely would have resulted in the same effect on him. Also, he seemed to be holding it in a very not-ready-to-shoot way, so this seemed a tad unnecessary. Feel like they could have let him walk further and maybe had someone sneak up behind him or attempt a taser first, but you never know. Glad he lived. Leg is also an extremely dangerous place to get shot, so this does not support a “shoot him in the leg” argument. This guy was relatively still and he had a rifle while not immediately under duress, so the shot was easier
The way the pistol was hanging down a half decent rifleman should have been able to hit the pistol itself at that short distance while there was a good and obvious back stop of the wall behind him.
Anyone remember that joe rogan podcast with Joey Diaz when he’s tells the joke about shooting the perp in the legs😂
Don't know what to say, those guys are incredible well trained ... Simply heros they saved this mans life and avoided family tradegy. Let's hope this man gets help.
sorry but i have to ask bc of your name, are you german? ^^
Well trained??? There was no reason to shoot the guy.
@@chiwawa130 there was absolutely a reason to shoot the guy. Holding a gun advancing on officers towards civilians. I swear are people actually this dumb my gosh
@@ImmTavy I can agree and disagree on this one. Dude had a gun and was advancing, yes. was he an active threat? yes. was he an imitate threat? defiantly not. Sure I can arm chair quarterback the shit out of anything, its easy from the comfort of my chair to see that he was holding the gun with 2 to 3 fingers on the butt end of the grip upside down and his other hand had a walking stick. I'm sure going from that position to a firing position could be done as quick as 1 second. I think the cop who shot was defiantly on edge and was not fully prepared for the situation, you can hear it in his voice.
I know bringing a less lethal to a armed scenario is not the best idea, but when you have overwhelming force maybe one with a bean bag shotgun or a 40mm bag could have prevented this injury. 1 less lethal shot at the gun would have sent it flying( i know it's a small target and there is a possibility that it fires off a round ) or honestly a less lethal to the center of mass might have caused him to drop the gun also with that grip. The options were there for a less injuring way to solve the situation and at the same time there were options that could have turned out much worse.
I would say in this situation more training could have prevented the blood loss, but with their current level of training it prevented loss of life. Is it a win, Yes. Is their room for improvement, Yes.
@@atroxkeep i never actually said they handled it perfectly. But i do believe they did well overall. This is very tricky scenario. They guy is advancing on them, so they dont have alot of time to come up with a plan. Backing up is not an option as there are other civilians directly in the area. For me, perfect scenario is all officers advance together to disarm the man with guns pointed and if he moves they open fire. But im seeing comments about tackling him? That is rediculous and unsafe for everyone involved. Absolutely a less leathal shot gun would have almost certainly stopped this in a safer manner, but in the spot they are in, they really dont have time to run back to the car and retrieve it as again he is advancing. In a perfect world i would have liked to see one of the officers using the less leather out the gate, with the other 2 as lethal cover knowing the age of the suspect. But again, in the spot they are in as the man is advancing, they had to make a choice, and i think this was a pretty damn good choice and a great shot to avoid the thigh where major arterys exist
he was holding his gun by the magazine and it was very clear he wasnt a threat to anyone but himself. there was 3 officers there, they shouldnt have shot him at all unless he readied his weapon. excellent deescalation to an obviously suicidal person, at least they didnt kill him i guess in america that gets you a gold star as an officer
The perp was given the outcome he wanted assuming correctly that he would be somewhat spared. I guess he didnt think that it would be effective comig from a higher power. But be careful what you wish for😉
Damn with the amount of guns I’ve shot from people in RDR2 you’d think he’d try to hit the gun he’s holding with 2 fingers lmao. At least bro isn’t dead
I don’t wanna be that guy but that gun plus the sight the officer has is very accurate and I’m pretty sure he had the chance to shoot the perps gun out of his hand, literally
eeehhh, eeeeehhhh! “why not in the head”
The gun backstop was more problematic than the legs backstop.
He put the quarter in the juke box but he can't dance now
Notice how they always comply after being shot
LET ONE PERSON TALK!
The way he was holding that weapon, with a cane in the other hand... I'm glad this all worked out, but I don't think the stress level of the cops was warranted at all. They almost immediately escalated the situation themselves. The cops are extremely lucky this guy didn't have a heart attack or bleed out.
I dont know whats going on with the hair but i like it. Bro is looking clean.
Leg shots stop crimes *shrug* knowing you're going to get kneecapped and dragged into the station anyway, deters crimes
Someone could have gone up and grabbed it. While another gave cover.
It was certainly better than giving him a temperature check.
I love your channel!!
Thank you so much!!
Based on how he was dangling the gun it would probably have been best to shoot a beanbag at his nether region.
With one foot in the grave and the other injured.
I think a bola-wrap would have been a good idea if they had them only cuz he's really old and slow. But this was a good outcome.
I thought the same thing, at that distance why not try a shot at the pistol.
If I was suffering with something like dementia I wouldn't want to live either. I know it's complicated, but I wish there were options for assisted suicide when needed so that no one has to resort to something like suicide by cop.
Someone could have just walked up and snatched it put of his hand the way he was holding it.
Seems like a good place for a bean bag shot. I too thought there were too many officers issuing commands.
Brings all the boys to the yard, lol.
