It sounds off beat because he is sampling in 6/8 time signature but played his hi hats in 4/4 and it messed with the timing of everything and made it feel off... To make a 6/8 (or 3/4) sample work you gotta time stretch it (or pitch it up) so it’s in 4/4, or just keep everything in 6/8 If you look closely at his timeline you can see that he is in 6/8 so he must’ve set it that way. The down beat or emphasis for a 6/8 beat is on the 1 and the 4. So if you count to 6 with an emphasis on the 1 and 4 - the kick should hit at 1 and the snare at 4, it will be like this: KICK two three, SNARE five six (repeat). And then play the hi-hats in 3rds instead of fourths. I hope all this makes sense lol. I like the simplicity of the beat, and all he needs to do is fix the timing of the hi-hats and he has a really nice sounding groove!
I like the beat. The hats didn't work in straight 4/4 until the scratch came in which added the necessary rhythm and syncopation. I'd like to hear it with some machine gun hats on second half of beat 4 - It's a good quality that you want to please others and it's mature to use constructive criticism that isn't even at constructive level. However it's also OK to just do it and don't think about it. This first beat captured the magic of the sample - dope.
This sounded beginnerish (especially the drums and the cuts) but I somehow like the simplicity of the whole thing. Simple setup, simple beat. Beautiful.
Hi, The mix on this beat is terrible. I'm thinking of taking it down as youtube seems to push this vid harder than any of my others. Please do check out some of my newer beats, they are a lot better. And thanks for the constructive criticism and kind words!
Did you use a preamp? I can’t see cause the cord goes off screen. Asking cause I ran my pt01 directly into Maschine and got a recording level that was almost invisible
No I'm just running the pt01 straight into the Maschine. I do get a fairly low signal but completely usable. You might want to test your pt01 on a different system to check if it's working ok
Good morning. Numark pt01 and Maschine talk quietly without other devices? Can the work of the Numark / Maschine couple be recorded on a pc? Thanks so much
Do you need a rca to dual 1/4 inch to run this through the MK3? I tried using a 3.5 to dual 1/4 inch from the headphone output but I'm not getting anything
So I've used a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch in the past and it has worked fine. I would recommend first making sure you are getting audio out of the pt01, just plug some headphones in. But if that's not the problem you'll have to just keep troubleshooting. Sorry I couldn't be more help

Your sound is great !!! Just a last question ... when you play scratch do you record through your daw or the scratch signal through maschine ? Thanks man hope to hear new track soon !!!
Hi! Yeah I love the Numark. I just run an RCA cable with 1/4 inch jacks from the pt01 into the Maschine line in. In this video I think I recorded the audio straight into the camera (doesn't sound great) but now I record the scratches into Ableton and sync with the video afterwards. Thanks for the support!
I just use an RCA cable (www.amazon.ca/dp/B07Y3Z7Z99/) with some 1/4 inch jacks (www.amazon.ca/dp/B000068O3S/). Or you could go for something like this www.amazon.ca/dp/B000068O17/
How is the sound quality on the numark? Deciding between that one and the stanton t92 usb turntable but I like this one is portable and small. Upgrading from a shitty sounding crosley so sound quality is important to me, especially for sampling
The sound quality is decent. It's definitely not audiophile quality. Not having used the stanton or crosley I cant say for sure but I'd imagine it sits somewhere in between the two. For my purposes the numark is perfect. For the most part having a better turntable would make no difference as the actual vinyl I'm using is pretty rough. Hope that helps
This is dope. Do you know how to do this same exact thing - sampling from vinyl directly into the MK3 - but when it's a plug-in in Logic Pro X? for some reason, there's no signal coming in from the vinyl player to the maschine when it's open as plug-in in Logic. Thanks.
Thanks man! As for your question I'm not really sure. It will have to do with the routing. Maybe check in the Maschine plugin what input you are sampling from. Or check in Logic if you can route the audio from and audio track to the Maschine plugin. The only other option would be to just record samples in Logic and then load them into Maschine. Hope that helps
Kit Complete thanks for the reply. That's how I've done it in the past with the MK2 - record into logic, save as a .wav and then drop in the maschine. But this seems counterintuitive now since the MK3 has a direct input into its own audio interface. Tried every routing possibility, for some reason the maschine software doesn't give the option to toggle between interfaces in its preferences whilst it's in plug-in form in logic :/ appreciate the response tho. Keep Killin it.
Hey, So I figured it out in Ableton. I just need to rout the audio from an audio track in ableton to the midi track that contained the Maschine plugin. Then I had to make sure the input in Maschine was set to In 1 L+R. And last I had to make sure the audio track in ableton was set to monitor in (just set so you can hear whats coming in without having to hit the record button). Not sure in this will work with Logic but hope it helps
So the mk2 doesn't have an audio interface so in that sense no you cannot record from external sources. But the software for all the Maschine units is the same so as long as you have some kind of audio interface you should be able to record. Hope that helps as I'm not sure what you mean by sounding vivid?
The difference is the downbeat. The sample of the vinyl and the beat are on different time signatures, the vinyl is in 6/8 (I think so) and the beat is on 4/4, the downbeat in both tracks doesn't match. If you come down to music theory it's not coherent what the two parts are playing. But it is music, everything comes down to feeling, some people might like it and some not.
The turntable is the Numark Pt01 Scratch. It is just powered from a wall outlet and it has line level outputs so I am able to connect it to the Maschine mk3 with an RCA cable and some RCA to 1/4 inch jacks.

O ok I have the same hook up and for some reason I’m not getting a signal in my maschine.. It’s strange because it works for my mpc one but not my maschine.. I’m a bit confused
@@danextbestthing15 Hmmm strange. Without being there it's hard to say. One thing I can think of is that you have to have the input gain on the Maschine turned all the way up to get a decent signal. Also you need to select external stereo input when you sample

I've been really contemplating getting an MPC Studio MK2 for its sample chopping ability but tbh this seems to be able to keep up with it pretty much just as well 👀
In terms of chopping samples the Maschine mk3 would be a much better option but as it's like twice the price you would expect it to be. the MPC Studio MK2 is a much closer comparison to the Maschine Mikro mk3. It's a tricky question trying to figure out what gear to get in regards to what budget you have. Let me know if you have any questions or what you decide to go with
@@TheKitComplete based on everything I've been seeing even tho it's a bit more expensive than the MPC Studio 2 I think the Mashine MK3 has everything I'd need and kind of like a "buy once cry once" sort of situation, and if I was going to get an MPC Studio 2 I most likely would've gotten a keyboard to go with it so the difference in price really isn't that big considering that :) I just feel like being a beginner having an easier to use work flow will make it more fun to let the creativity flow instead of being frustrated and trying to fumble around

I've got it running into the Maschine MK3 with an RCA cable. You can plug the turntable straight into a computer via USB but you wont be able to record any scratches with that method.
You just need to hit the sampling button on your Maschine then on the first page make sure the source is set to "external" and on the second page set the monitor to "on". Hope that helps
Jeremy Weinapple and I’m assuming you have your recording setting set to external stereo? At this point you have to try a process of elimination. HEY MAN thanks for the video.. but I'm having issues. my machine records the sounds but no actual sound is playing just the waves of the sample. any idea why I'm hearing no sound?
Hey thanks! Aw man it's hard to say. So when you hit a pad you can see the sample is playing when in the 'sampling' tab? Can you see any audio signal coming through the master fader (top right of the maschine software)? If you just load a drum kit can you hear that?
OK so when I go to audio settings and put "Maschine mk3" I could record from my sample no problem but now I have no audio coming from the software. When I go back to "built-in" I have full audio on my software and could play back my sample with the pads. When I'm on built-in I have 0 single from my record player and when I put monitor "on" I get back a nasty sound like if someone dropped a microphone and it won't stop peeping.
Yeah that's just how Maschine works I'm afraid. You can only use one device at a time. If you could set the maschine as an input and built-in as the output it would solve your problem but you can't do that with the maschine software. The only other way to solve your problem is to set maschine as the audio device and plug your headphones/speakers into maschine for playback. Hope that helps
No bother. Am I right in assuming you want to hear what you're doing from your computer/laptop speakers? If so an extra audio interface will have the same issue as you will have to use it as both the input and output.
Not even shitting, man... quick movements on the fader. Can even make it sound like crabbing without crabbing. I even have a cobalt wedding ring on my left hand xD

Kit Complete sorry for bothering you so much I just want to make music already!!! But do you think an audio interface would fix this?
No bother. Am I right in assuming you want to hear what you're doing from your computer/laptop speakers? If so an extra audio interface will have the same issue as you will have to use it as both the input and output.
Dope man, You scratch like me ahahaha
Cheers man! You must be sick on the cuts ;)
Not even shitting, man... quick movements on the fader. Can even make it sound like crabbing without crabbing. I even have a cobalt wedding ring on my left hand xD
Haha scratch twins separated at birth!
Stranger things have happened hahah
i do this with my maschine mk3. oldschool at its finest
Yeah man, I had the Mk1 for many years. Loving the Mk3!
Not convinced that you’re feeling this beat yourself since I don’t see you bouncing ya dome convincing me that it’s dope.
Check out the remake here ruclips.net/video/TfyM3CQnMjU/видео.html
love this, what kind of numark turntable is that?
Thanks! It's the Numark pt01 scratch but mine is upgraded with the Jesse Dean Designs fader.
Kit Complete that’s nice
@@TheKitComplete Hey buddy. Can you tell me please how you connected te PT01 to Maschine please?
@@Arpi_RND yeah no worries, you just need an RCA to 1/4" cable. Something like this www.amazon.ca/Hosa-Cable-CPR201-Dual-Inch/dp/B000068O16/ref=sr_1_3?crid=MO8ZF65ZVHEZ&keywords=rca+to+1%2F4&qid=1553945086&s=gateway&sprefix=rca+to+%2Caps%2C172&sr=8-3
Then you can plug the pt01 outputs into maschines line in 1 and 2.
You could also use a regular rca cable and these www.amazon.ca/HOSA-Cable-GPR101-Adaptor-2-Black/dp/B000068O3S/ref=sr_1_9?crid=MO8ZF65ZVHEZ&keywords=rca+to+1%2F4&qid=1553945312&s=gateway&sprefix=rca+to+%2Caps%2C172&sr=8-9
of course any brand is fine
Great vid !!! Absolutly loved the beat ... Quick question : How would i plug my Sl1210 turntable into the maschine mk3?
Hey, Thanks man! The 1210 has phone outputs but the Maschine only has line level inputs to you would need some kind of phono pre amp, DJ mixer or a dedicated pre amp would work. Hope that helps
What daw u using
Maschine and Ableton
This chopped and screwed 🥵
Cheers!
I hate this. why does everyone make this look so damn easy! lol, good job!
Haha, Thank you!
Can you do an in-depth video? I have the mk2 and I have Ableton. I just cant seem to get my shit together when it comes to making a proper beat.
I am planning to do more in-depth videos soon, just not sure when exactly :)

Is there a commercially available Vinyl LP?
Do you mean the record I sampled from? It is an old record so you would have to buy it secondhand but I’m sure you could find it on eBay or somewhere like that.
I mean, Is the old record a Royalty Free?
I don’t think so. It’s not that old
@@TheKitComplete Do you know of any place that sells royal free LP?
