Kaladin vs szeth will be one of the greatest fights on screen.
Imagine having in the beginning parts of your story a fight like that one with Dalinar, Adolin and Sadeas vs the Chasmfiend, that would hook most if it would be put in something like "season 1"
Blackthorn will be BRUTAL
You just reminded me of it and gave me goosebumps
What about shallan vs the all mighty stick
Dude imagine the rift burning. That sheer scale of death would be horrific for a person invested in Dalinar
I think Brando Sando naturally writes cinematic action and settings, the hard magic systems are just begging for a visual realisation, and the interconnected universe means the franchise potential is super strong. Mistborn will definitely be adapted first (as Kelsier in Fortnight demonstrates). It has an easier entry point than Stormlight, as you say. Less crab people and world spanning storms, you know? I could see Mistborn being live action. I think he said Final Empire would be a movie and Well of Ascension a miniseries, in his preference. I sincerely hope there's no fantasy burnout, but the Cosmere adaptations may reverse that tide :)
I think it would be best if all his books were adapted into animation tv series/movies akin to Arcane :)
I want animated, multi-season shows.
I would be shocked if Mistborn Era 1 wasn't adapted by the end of the decade.
Imagine seeing: "You sent him to the sky to die, assassin, but the sky and the winds are mine. I claim them, as I now claim your life.” On the big screen.
I'd shit myself
I have spent a considerable amount of time imagining how this line should be delivered 😂
honestly why I love the idea behind it I feel like storm lights too intricate to be a movie you'd have to be either a TV series which would require an overly massive budget like rings of power to be accurate at least for the later adaptations or toward the best it have to be a animated series because that I feel would work better for the nature of how their power was work given how anime they get later on
I love kaladin but this is a really clunky line. He's a badass and great character, but his one liners need some work.
I hope one day people look back at this video and say "Wow, he got it right!"
Me too
Would love to see Vin fighting with 13 inquisitors on the big screen.
Stormlight really seems like it would make a great traditional 2d animated series. It would be the easiest to show all the magic and large scale action and stuff, and the action seems almost straight out of anime already. I’m thinking an animation style like the “invincible” show. Mistborn would probably work as a live action, but would be hard to show the more mental abilities like soothing. It could also work well in an “arcane” animation style
The recent animated show “Arcane” shows me there is a maturity and flexibility now available in animated storytelling that makes it completely viable for Sanderson stories.
Hollywood exec: So what's the elevator pitch for this....Mistborn thing?
Me, an intellectual: Game of Thrones but good AND with Ninja Magneto
I could see them doing Mistborn live-action (since thats already in the works, isn't it?), but i don't think they could do Roshar justice without a bankrupt-worthy budget
If mistborn gets really popular then there could be big money backing a stormlight adaptation.
It’s gonna be interesting to see how the WoT show does. I feel like that will be closer to the Cosmere in tone and scope than GoT.
yeah this aged nicely😂
Gosh, I hope not. WoT live action felt waaay too try hard
I desperately want a Cosmere adaptation! I almost feel like Warbreaker would be the easiest place to start but Mistborn would draw more people in
I've been saying for a while now that I think either The First Law or The Stormlight Archive will be the next fantasy to dominate pop culture just like LoTR and GoT did. Unfortunately my friends have no idea what im talking about lol. Also the casting for the First Law's three central characters (and Bayaz) would have to be PERFECT.
I'd be down for any kind of Adaptation even a Mistborn videogame sounds cool! But I'm of the unpopular opinion that not all stories need to be adapted into other mediums, honestly I kinda like where the cosmere sits right now as a book series. Not sure how to feel about books nowadays being treated as a pitch or test run for movies etc. I guess I'm just overprotective of the book medium😂
I'd agree but it's really good for people who have difficulties reading for adaptations to happen. My girlfriend, as a personal example, gets really frustrated reading because she mixes up letters and words. It would be great to be able to share all these amazing stories I enjoy so much with her, so I'm all for adaptations of my favorite stories
@@who_the_fuck_is_riley5813 This is a great point and I agree adaptations do solve a lot of accessibility issues
I agree
@@who_the_fuck_is_riley5813 I’m sure you’ve thought of this, but does she have the same issues with audiobooks?
@@bluedude656 You, my good sir or madam, are a genius and I am but garden variety swine. I have not thought of this but it's so obvious I should have. Gonna give it a shot
Such a lively, beautiful world like Roshar would look absolutely spectacular in animation... hope we get to see it some day
But wouldn't it look even more amazing in (high quality) live action?
@@magisterofsteam7880 Don't think that's feasible unless the budget is higher than Avatar...
@@magisterofsteam7880 the only ones that coul pull that off would be disney. and i don't know if i like that idea
@@dekaboss2730 Why not HBO or Amazon?
@@MolotovBg I mean look at what they did with Game of Thrones. The years are passing now and cgi and visual quality is only getting better.
I would love to see the Cosmere as an anime it would allow them to take it to the next level
Must be live action for mass appeal. Stormlight would need a missive budget. Mistborn needs to come out first and knock it out of the park. It’s the path of least resistance for the Cosmere. I can see the Mistclock Halloween costumes now. Also I don’t think it would be part of fantasy burnout but rather the solution. The Cosmere is more scifi than fantasy
Yeah Mistborn must be the first and it has to be a conjunction of three different movies(not a show) and those have to be great adaptations to build the path for the entire cosmere adaptation.
If you don't feel like starting a series, but want a taste of Sanderson's writing, go read Warbreaker! It's a standalone book and honestly has crazy cool magic system and 2 bad ass female protagonist. And the best part, it's 100% available for free on his website!!!
Just like George RR Martin says that the character "Sam" is very much like George himself, I think Wit is Sanderson's version of himself in the cosmere.
I think the only way to really do the cosmere justice is through either an absolutely insane budget Live action tv show - game of thrones esc, or if you wanted to be 100% faithful, only an animated series could really tell the full story. Personally, I think 2D is the way to go, unfortunately it's a more niche medium so it wouldn't hit a wide audience, but 2D has much better longevity than 3D, and therefore would stand the test of time :). Also, 100% pre-ordering a stormlight jRPG if it ever gets made!
I think mistborn would be better life action nothing that happens there is super insane thst it couldn’t be done we
Live action
But stormlight should be animated castlevania style
@@Valiguss I agree mistborn would have a much better chance in live action than Stormlight, which would cost a crazy amount of money to do well after book 2. I'm definitely biased, but in terms of shows i'd actually want to see the most, it would be stormlight. If i could pick any cosmere to go live action from a business perspective, i would actually choose Warbreaker. It could last 1 season, and it would have the fewest live action constraints and would easily test the waters with how well brandons works translates to live action. I also think it's his most underrated series - it's very well written, unlike elantris where you could tell he was still ironing out his process.
Stormlight with season 4 of Castlevennia animation would be phenomenal! It would need to get picked up by Netflix, and backed heavily though. If it went to a great japanese studio (like bones, madhouse, ufotable, kyoto ani, etc) I would be afraid of it getting dropped after the first season or two, due to how studio budgeting works in that country (It's pretty messed up). I believe Avatar: The Last Airbender used a Korean animation studio in conjunction with a western team to create their show, which would probably be the best route if it went 2D.
@@Ridghost yeah I agree, yeah just something about the animation of castlevania makes me think that it would be perfect for stormlight (also idk why but I’ve always imagine when kaladin lashes things that like a glyph appears in the air which I know has no basis in canon but it’s look really cool)
I am by no means a fan of anime, but realistically, it's the only medium to properly capture the magic systems that Sanderson has created. It also alleviates the requirement of having an oppressive studio altering the story too much from the source material.
I agree, it could be soemthing like the arcane animation or more tradit89nal like avatar o Cyberpunk
Cosmere would excel on the screen, but it absolutely needs to be done right. So many fantasy series get these terrible cheesy low budget adaptations that leave a sour taste. I have faith in Brando though, he's clearly a genius and can get it done
Big budget movies for Mistborn Era 1, mini-series for Era 2, Elantris and Warbreaker would possibly be better to go first so that a company can test the waters and gauge audience repsonses. And I think we're in agreement that you can't cover a single Stormlight book in a film. It needs to have it's own series and it need to be BIG $$$$$$$.
I think that both the stormlight archives and the mistborn series should be made as a television show and the Standalone books should be made into a mini series 😍☺️😉🙂
I think there isn’t enough in mistborn to be a tv show that wouldn’t feel kinda drawn out but stormlight needs to be an animated tv show
Edit in this video was straight fire! Really well done!
Awesome video, Christian! You bring up a great point I hadn’t thought of when it comes to world hoppers crossing over into other series of different mediums. I think I’ll always be team live action, but I’d honestly be so happy to see the Cosmere brought to life in any medium as long as it’s done well.
We need Disney's money but we also need Disney not make the adaptations lol
Sounds like a job for our boy Kelsier...
@@LostinDiscovery Hell yeah 🤣🤣 😏 And with the help of Locke Lamora.
Would HBO be a good choice then?
I mean, I know that the last couple seasons of GoT were horrendous, but I thought that was more the writers’ than the company’s fault.
But, I’m not familiar with HBO’s “corporate culture” so to speak, so I could be wrong about that.
What we need is patience, I think. In recent years there actually has been quite some progress in the way CGI and visual terrain etc have been done. Give it another decade - or even longer - and it could be even easier and cheaper to produce good visuals.

@@captain4318 mandalorian comes to mind !
I foundationilly believe that the cosmear needs to be animated. The range of the cast. The consistency. It is important that it feel the same. That is possible in the realm of animation. You can have a story be 2d and another be 3d but as soon as you case an actor you’ve put a face that will age to the characters. Cast hoid in the live action and suddenly you need countless makeup artists to manage where in his timeline he is. Cast Kriss or any of her crew and now everyone knows if they are hidden in the background. In animation you both have the freedom to have a voice actor maintain a role for a lifetime, as well as the ability to add detail and nuance key to the cosmear. Take the wot adaptation, a small thing but Lan isnt going to have a colour shifting cloak. Its too hard to do do that kind of thing in live action. So they understandably pass on those details in favour of funding els-ware. Yes live action feel fancy with the mcu are doing it. But there is nothing less than about animation. Look at love death and robots for a sample of the variety an animated cosmear can have. They can all look the same like the dc animated movie’s. Or they can all look different like in spider-verse. In any-case these simply aren’t possible in live action. If one series is live action peoples prejudices would cause the immediate dismissal of the non live action products. It is an all or nothing game. A very expensive all or nothing game. I don’t know about you but i personally don’t want stormLight to take place on a light stage like the mandalorian, its beautiful but its enclosed. StormLight is bigger than that. So is mistborn and all the cosmear.
Every Cosmere series should be adapted into multiple, full length, hand animated sagas. Boom, beautiful and can masterfully render everything in the stories with a consistent visual clarity. Also would address actors aging out of roles visually in 5 years.
If they get adapted, I'm gonna be the books were better guys even if the adaptions were just as good
This is a lot closer than we thought, as shown in his latest AMA
Me thinking about taking acting classes so I can be Vin lollll
I think that all Brandon Sanderson books would make great video games, animated movies and animated series.
For me personally, The Cosmere should be entirely animated with different art styles. However, if someday a big crossover happens, then it should be all 2D animated (Castlevania/The Legend of Korra art style) or all 3D animated (Arcane/Spider-Verse art style).
I love your idea of different animation styles and the crossovers end up being like the Spiderverse with the mixing of styles
@@jasonbailey9139 Thank you :)
Yeah, I would much prefer a live action episodic format
P.s That intro was incredible, all the art was top notch and fit the music just right. Great job
Screw Marvel. Gimme the Cosmere.
Lol, that's a joke tho. I do love Marvel. But, I'd still choose Cosmere over it. Sue me.
No need to sue. It’s an understandable preference.
I'd sue you, but I'd have to lose on purpose.
Until Cosmere proves itself in that medium, I'm good with Marvel.
So many new streaming services out there. Sanderson is starting a podcast after getting a big boost from Kelsier in Fortnite. I know when I play I use the skin every time and still teams ask who he is and I love explaining while telling them to check out the books. But with how popular he's getting if it continues and so many services don't survive I'd love to see a big studio back him and just call the new streaming service "The Cosmere" having good production values (maybe a hefty price at first until they get the ball rolling), some actors we know well in the older parts but newer an upcoming for the young. Can have seperate shows for each planet first following the books then going a bit further giving more info. By then so many more books will have been written after a couple of seasons they can start crossing the shows over(well Wit from season one on them all) and all those who liked even one of the shows are watching them all due to how it combines. And give Brandon full say on what goes on screen. That's how I want it done lol
Man i can't wait to see the Cosmere in a visual medium (besides the White Sands comics of course)
Honestly I'd rather have no adaptations than live action adaptations. I think 2d animation would be really really fantastic, I think it gives them the flexibility that they'd need to pull the stories off right. Live action may have a larger audience, but the maximum quality I would expect would be 6/10, with 2d animation I think you could get a 9/10. I think the cosmere would benefit more from having fantastic animated adaptations than mediocre live action adaptations.
I think that they should make a Mistborn live action movie series to get people into the Cosmere. They could perhaps make some of the wider universe references more obvious and intriguing, then switch the rest of the Cosmere to animation after having drawn the more animation hating viewers into the overall story.
I honestly hope that with Kelsier on Fortnite. And also after they (hopefully) add Vin to Fortnite. I think that we are closely approaching more to the realm of cosmere based video games than the movies. I mean after 2020 the most popular medium would be videogames rather than movies. I mean the oscars are dead, Hollywood is just politics and not merit based and a lot of countries still have theaters closed.
I think videogames is the way to go tbh
Heare me out, all animated BUT every series/Shardworld is in a different animation style. And worldhoppers, although perhaps a bit more... in the series' style, are still their own world's style
The Cosmere is going to be insanely difficult to adapt for a lot of very different reasons. I personally don't think the way things like Mistborn works would work well in live action, even with cgi the way things work would be so much better suited to animation.
Stormlight I could see but it'd need to be a budget of LOTR or higher (movies budget) for it to work, the size of the warcamps on the shattered plains and just Kahbranth alone are huge in scope. Then there's the use of Shardblades and plate.
Warbreaker would work for a TV series and the magic system - like Elantris - would be fine for TV.
I would definitely reverse those. Mistborn could definitely work with live action. The only cgi you need is moving objects around, koloss, and kandra. And all the environment is covered in fog. Very doable. Stormlight does need an insane budget because they would have to CGI literally everything except the human characters. And its very hard to act in nothing but green screen.
@@bradenhazle4378 Everyon'e entitled to their idea dude but I have to point out that Mistborns are meant to move at superhuman speeds, to move with a grace and precision when in the air and in fighting - even more so when they're burning Atium - that's why I stick to the "it needs to be animated" idea
and sure Rohasr could work live action, but it'd need to be a tremendous budget to get the world right, I mean the shattered plains alone are huge, I wouldn't want TV budget effects for the film(s) of Stormlight.
@@UncensoredScion And super speed/abilities have been shown in film for a long time. Meanwhile, full green screen sets have proven to not work well with live action. Remember the Star Wars prequels?
@@bradenhazle4378 if you're talking about Marvel and DC use of it, that's not the idea of speed needed.
The Flash isn't graceful, neither was either version of quicksilver, they were "quick" while the world was slow.
Vin for instance is speedy because she's so small, but her use of knives and daggers while gracefully avoiding others is going to look silly in live action, because they'll need to switch between live action and cgi so much and do close up shots to fake the grace of a Mistborn.
Whereas, Anime has already given us a decent idea of how to do Mistborn level fighting and to make it look decent. ruclips.net/video/D65UZjh-mFE/видео.html
Like I said you're entitled to your opinion dude but just flinging out that you want it one way doesn't mean anything if you can't back it up.
I pointed out that Stormlight would need LOTR level budgets for films just to go on the world of Roshar, that's 300 million on effects alone plus a good hundred million more for actors and locations/sets.
To make it work perfectly, because you need to make Shardplate look ethereal and realistic at the same time while in the same scene as a Chasm Fiend and also include actors who are either in full armour or bystanders (and this is including the Parshendi.)
I've given my argument as to why both would work better in certain areas. If you can argue around that, please show live action examples of Mistborn style fighting that doesn't look silly.
@@UncensoredScion I think you got a high brow view of speed bud. If you want super speed, of course the world will be slow. Quickness can easily shown in a fight scene look at any martial arts film.
Most of the LOTR budget went into the practical effects and number of actors. LOTR didn't use full on cgi to create a world because it was literally earth. Stormlight is a complete alien planet with environments that will need to be cgi and it will be hard for actors to work with. That's plain and simple. Again, look at Star Wars prequels and the Warcraft movie
Also, LOTR cost $260 million *total* for all 3 movies. They would need Avengers level budgets for Stormlight if they went live action and try to look good.
I love the Cosmere and think it has huge potential to break in and dominate if done right. I am kind of glad that it hasn't been done yet because it probably would have been done by a smaller studio that would have done like Avatar the Last Airbender or Eragon type adaptation. Also since Brandon is only 4 books out of 10 into Stormlight, a show would get caught up and run into the issue GoT had once it passed the books. And I don't know if I would want to see the conclusion play out on the screen before reading it in the book (but hopefully they will be working with Brandon to do it right unlike GoT). There are several scenes and characters that I am so looking forward to being played on screen though! So hopefully with the books gaining more popularity and getting pop exposure like in Fortnite, a larger studio with more resources will get the rights to the full Cosmere and do it right.
Stormlight needs to be a tv show animated by the people who did castlevania if possible
(Also we need a like big stormlight rpg the system already lends itself so well to being an rpg with already existing level ups and power consumptions stuff built in)
Mistborn hold make good live action movies
War breaker would make a good movie especially with like an weird more experimental art style
I think there was some discussion on a recent livestream about the possibility of developing an RPG…
@@philvogelfilms sweet, cause like it’d be so easy to do, the one big limitation would be you need some way of measuring progress toward an ideal and possibly a skill leveling track alongside a radiant leveling track
Arcane has shown how great a well-done 3D animation can be. I wish we got something like that.
Wonderful job on the video, it relayed a lot of good information.
I do think some recent adaptations have done very well. For their budgets and then the amount of viewers they can be considered successes. Witcher for example is on the Netflix top streamed shows ever on debut. Now compared to something like GoT of course it's not a massive hit but idk if anything will ever capture the zeitgeist like that again.
I could see Cosmere and SLA becoming a new age Star Wars like franchise for sure. I will be curious to see who decides to purchase the rights when it comes time and how the choose to adapt it.
Brandon just had a podcast or update (don't remember) saying he is talking a lot with Hollywood Studios right now and 2023, 24 those discussions are really going to take out. So here we go!
Unfortunately, this is not happening anymore 😢
I fully agree! Also to support this is the upcoming Wheel of Time show. The connection between that and Brandon Sanderson will translate into many connections in the entertainment industry. The domino effect will kick in and cause these to rise to LOTR proportions. Optimistic? Yes.
just finished words of radiance yesterday and I cant believe I just recently found out about stormlight archive. I was living under a rock I know. Im super hyped about the mistborn series, cant wait to get my hands on it.
I’d love to see every world have a different medium, like Mistborn as live action, stormlight as stylistic 2D, warbreaker as anime, etc.
Yeah I agree that Mistborn is the best place to start with cosmere series if they go the live action but I’ll be honest in saying that all the series just scream anime to me. If they did go live action though, one character they won’t have the aging problem with is Hoid as one of his powers is changing his appearance. So like The Doctor he could be played by multiple actors just so long as they keep one actor per series
I think mistborn would be best life action none of its powers are too outlandish or hard to put on screen but stormlight is insane they would need to do it animated
@@Valiguss true
This is a great video! Such an awesome analysis and I super feel the same way. I think Sando said something in an interview of how he would have to decide if an adaptation was to reach as many new audiences as possible or to be directed at existing stormlight fans. If it were the former, it would have to be live action but the latter could lend itself to animation
Mistborn would be absolutely perfect for a AAA massive open world RPG. Have perk trees tied to each metal for steady growth as you become better with each. Rather than magic points you have to manage your supply of each metal. If done right, the game could be a masterpiece.
I’m right there with you though, the cosmere is just begging to be adapted to our screens. I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t happen. Stormlight does need to wait a while before it can become live action. By the time season 10 is ready to be filmed, book 10 needs to have been out long enough for the script to be properly written.
Definitely needs to be live action, but we need another 5-10 years before they are ready to begin in my opinion...
Isn't Brandon writing a Screenplay for Mistborn already?
I do agree with you, as soon as these get a cinematic, or television universe, they can grow as large as (and be much more entertaining than) the MCU
Wow, love the editing here! I know how long some of these can take and it appears that you spent a whole lot of time on this video. Excellent job!
Thanks mate!
Oh Lord Ruler, it would be a dream to work on one of these future adaptations :DD either on the art department or as an actor. Sanderson's works are amazing!
I like your take, if we could get a "Avatar level" CGI for at least Storm light, I would be happy.
My worrie with the transition to screen is, so much is cut. I mean I wasn't happy with what was cut from HP let alone GoT. Imagine what they will do to Sanderson D:
He said on one of his podcasts that he wants more control than studios are willing to give him. I think he loves his books too much, but in the end sometimes $$ wins. Look at that shitpiece of a movie the dark tower. ugg.
Surprised you didn't bring up Invincible when vouching for a 2D adaptation.
Personally I think Mistborn could work as a live action trilogy (or 6 movies if they do era 2 as well) but Stormlight would definitely need to be 2D animation.
Love the intro!
Thank you!!
you're the heir to captured in words, amazing production value as usual
There is a big reason why the cosmere NEEDS to be an anime:
Inner monologues of the characters.
It is not normal nor accepted in movies for characters to have thoughts shown to the viewer
However, it is natural in anime.
Also, all I can see in my mind when I think about the cosmere anime is a character flying at a ridiculous speed in front of a massive highstorm, while the land below just passes and passes making it a mere blur of mountains and trees.
Loved this video! Next video I would like to see from your channel...casting the Cosmere. Who would be great for Cosmere roles in the current field of known actors for iconic Cosmere characters? Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks for the great Stormlight content!
I think the Cosmere should be animated. Think Arcane or Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
But only after Stormlight is done
My wet dream is an "Arcane" level animation and art direction used to bring the Cosmere to life *_*
It can't be bigger than MCU, it has such a huge and long background.
But the Cosmere would be absolutly fantastic, Sanderson writes in such a dinamyc way that the script for the movie would be very easy to do.
Mistborn would be awesome as first adaption, Vin's action scenes are incredibile, imagine the scene when she absorb the fog.
Probably one of your best produced videos so far, and got say i resonate with a lot of your opinions overall. 10/10
Hasn't Brandon said a lot on this subject and that he would like to start his own company and have as much control as possible?
Personally I would almost rather have him focused on the books, look what happened to asoiaf because of its adaptation, we are still waiting on the next book. Though Sanderson would likely be on the ball way better than George was. Thankfully he finally started writing again but its already been so long we probably wont even get "Dream" now. Just imagine if the show never happened, we would probably be waiting on the final book instead of Winds. Well I wouldn't, cause I wouldn't even know the books existed in the first place. XD
I never would have heard of the books if not for the show. GoT is what got me into reading as an adult.
Martin had pretty much stalled long before Game Of Thrones was released (1 book in 6 years).
I doubt very much that anything will stop Brandon writing.
Dragonsteel Entertainment is Brando Sando’s media company
I think Brandon is working on a script for a Mistborn pitch, and being a producer on the wheel of time show at the same time has made him a lot more aware of what that industry and adaptations are like. From the interviews I've watched he's not likely to get full creative control over the adaptations, because even GRRM and the Tolkien estate didn't have full control of their adaptations, he's just hoping to have a veto for anything he really doesn't like
Speaking of Animation, you should check Arcane. Imagine if the Cosmere animated in that kind of artstyle. *cheff kiss*
DMG bought the IP of the entire Cosmere from Sanderson in 2016 - the deal also includes all future works. They were supposed to fast tracking Way of Kings and seeking writers for The Last Empire but everything stalled. It’s up to them to make this happen.
That's how I feel about Lost in Discovery. "I was watching it from the beginning. I got to see it blow up!" Haha. I think I'm backwards from you, in that I think The Stormlight Archive would make better movies and Mistborn would make a better TV show. IMHO, TSA is more cinematic, which is saying something because Mistborn ain't no slouch in that department at all. Plus I feel you could condense/combine some things in TSA so maybe the first 5 books would be a trilogy. Obviously no idea on the back five. Potential downside-we're are, what...at least 20-25 years away from this all being completed? How far does that get pushed back if Brandon takes on more responsibilities in adapting the Cosmere? Which he'd have every right to do, and If wish him all the best and be super excited myself. Just wondering out loud...
Great video Christian! I really hope I live long enough to see the Stormlight Archive adapted, even if I have to go into cryosleep and leave behind my family, it would be worth it
Thanks man! Hahaha, honestly.. .worth it. 😂
With how popular anime is these days, this would do amazing as an animated series
I think it should be up to Sanderson to decide which medium. He knows his limits and know what would be able to transition from his worlds to video. If Sanderson decides I’ll be totally ok with it.
One of the things with stormlight adaptation is information. I wonder how they would explain which spren are which, or stuff that the characters don’t talk about but is still explained in small tidbits of information. I can see the same problem with Mistborn but less so.
i have already seen this video some months ago. I've returned to comment because recently on netflix there's a very good show, Arcane, and the moment i finished it i thought : fuck, this can be the way to make a visive adaptation of the entire cosmere, potentially
I hope Sanderson doesn’t let Hollywood adapt his work without him being heavily involved. If I had to guess that’s why we haven’t had anything yet.
I want a producer who wants to be the next Kevin Feige to adapt Brandon’s works. Marvel has already proved there’s a dynamic market for this.
Personally I would love to see adaptations ot the cosmere however I just can't trust the overlords (producers/screenwriters/directors) not to mess it up. So yeah, I'm willing to wait another 10 years to get to the point that the tech will be able to give this world justice.
I think Brandon would love for his stories to be adapted, but only if they are going to do it justice, and that will cost a boat load of money. I still struggle to imagine spren in the Stormlight in live action, just because there are so many of them it might look goofy in live action.
This depends pretty heavily on the quality of the hypothetical movies. If it was Eragon quality.....well, you've killed it in it's cradle.
Koloss would be one of the toughest to adapt into live action and make believable. Depending on how close they stick to the source material.
Wow, what a great video! Your work really paid off.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've heard Brando has been approached to adapt some cosmere novels, so it's not a question of if, but when. The cosmere is his baby so I'm sure while he lives, he will want as much control as possible as to how it is portrayed in film. I hope it's live action, it would be very difficult to pull off... but it will eclipse GoT by the sheer scope of it all.
I asked you about this on a livestream, and it feels like you made a whole video about it! Thanks!
Hope you enjoyed it!
The thing is, since it all falls in the same universe and with connecting storylines, they need to follow a universal format: live action or animated. And considering Stormlight basically *must* be animated to properly convey the environments, people, creatures, magic, everything. The other series must be animated as well in the same style. Which is a shame since Mistborn is the most likely to be enthralling and still be live action.
And animated honestly doesn't pull as many people, at least initially. I think the only animated series that could rival the spread of GoT is ATLA.
While I'd love to see a full Cosmere adaptation come through soon, I think the Game of Thrones Ending effect will mean studios won't want to sink money into it until they can be sure they have the a complete property to use. We're probably going to be holding until after Stormlight book 10 (circa 2030).
As an avid Cosmere lover and deep reader, who acknowledges the proliferation of those like me, I can already see one massive (internet related) problem with direct screen adaptations: spoilers. It’s impossible for even a single novel to be adapted without the entire world knowing in short order-or at least having pervasive access to-every Cosmere spoiler. Thus, imo it would make more sense for adaptations to follow their own narrative, in the same way the MCU deviates uniquely from Marvel Comics. Much as I would LOVE to see the literature that’s carved out it’s own corner in my heart, on screen, I don’t see a way for that to happen without it ultimately failing due to the mystery we all love so much disappearing faster than a puff of Scadrian mist.
tbh the cosemere universes are also perfect settings for video game adaptation. I started with SA and am currently on RoW and I think that the magic system in SA can be translated into a decent combat system. it doesn't even have to be a literal adaptation but a new story with an original character as the MC (in collab with brando sando ofc). I can totally imagine a BioWare-esque game set in the era before the day of recreance or after the refounding of the Knights radiant where your decisions/actions determine with what kind of spren you bond with and thus which order you join.
I vote to replace Star Wars with Cosmere.
With the caveat that - as opposed to the ever declining Star Wars - it is adapted in a good way of course ;-) In that case I second your vote with all my heart!
Without Lucas, Star Wars doesn't have much chance. It's like what happened with Game of Thrones - a huge budget and expensive CGI alone can't make up for a lack of a vision, creativity and cohesive storyline. In that sense, Cosmere has a huge advantage in that it already has vast source material and a very productive and committed author.
Maybe we'll get lucky, and dragonsteel will start an animation studio.
hey, a cosmere video i can watch! i started mistborn a couple days ago and i'm looooving it
I just started about a month ago, about half way through the third book. Really good
I did screenshots of nearly all the fanart in the video. Well done!
What is your opinion on adapting unfinished works? GoT got in trouble by surpassing source material in my opinion, so I would hope any SA adaptation ends with book 5 for now. I think Mistborn Era 1 is probably fertile ground for adaptation to a visual medium. My vote is for an Into the Spiderverse animated film series
I've read the first Mistborn trilogy and am currently reading The Way of Kings. If they do get adapted, I think it should be in anime-style 2D animation. I just don't think live action would be able to do the worlds and magic justice.
Definitely agree for stormlight but I think for mistborn it would be fine live action and may actually be easier that way
I never comment on videos, but you are a pleasure to watch and you deserve your inevitable success .
That's so kind of you, thanks!
I think the stormlight archive would be best translated as an anime.
After watching arcane, I'd say 3D animation with 2d elements would be the best way to go for the cosmere. Arcane and spiderverse are prime examples that animation can still work
Wholeheartedly agree. I think this would be the best way to adapt it but I think Sando wants his stuff to have a bigger cultural impact
Give some of the stories to Science Saru, Witt Studio or Studio Trigger.

Mistborn would be the perfect starting point because, despite Stormlight Archive being the Cosmere’s current crown jewel, Mistborn forms the central trunk to the tree that is the Cosmere, leading from the very first era all the way into the presumable grand finale that is yet to come.
