This lesson was pure gold, its not 1 thing or a list of things "every guitar player should know". Legit a door of endless options to explore. Please keep them coming.
+issac hernandez Those things are marketing phrases. Real musicianship can't be quantified like that. If someone uses those tools I'm cool with that but I prefer the delivery of my material a bit more realistic and honest. And yed, if you take any idea I explain here and run it through all keys, inversions, permutations, etc. you habe an endless stream of stuff to work on. Thanks for the kind words!
Now this is a very helpful video. You brought to my attention that there are some things I've been doing that are working because I've narrowed the options, and not gotten distracted. And where I am failing, it seems clear now that it's because I am *not* approaching that area of practice systematically. Very helpful because I struggle with distraction as well. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this video, I just bought your lesson on fretboard visualisation from JTC after I listened to your discussion with mr. Quayle, and I realised that I have the same system but it's not nearly as crystallised as yours.
Martin's person skills is every bit as amazing as his playing abilities. You would think just because you're a phenomenal guitarist you would make a great teacher. Couldn't be further from the truth.
Martin, your teaching skills are really impressive... No wonder how you have developed such a profound understanding of music. By the way, I've played this video attracted by the title, I couldn't agree more with it
Marko had learned guitar for 6 years by the time this video was recorded?? That's crazy talented. People shouldn't be commenting on "how he talks over Martin" cause.. Look.. He's a fast learner. 6 years? And that he was ready to take on Martin's challenges? Anyway.. Thanks Martin for this lesson... I found this way too late.
He probably just doesn't want to look bad or vulnerable on the camera. It's really hard for humans to say "I don't know", they would much rather prefer to act smart which is why we have religion.
Martin Miller, Tom Quayle, Mateus Assato, Lari Bassilo, Andre Nieri. Who else from the new generation that good like them? I need more modern guitar players for reference.
Mark Lettieri, Horace Bray, Dillan Witherow, Sam Blakelock, Justus West, Ben Eller, Andy Wood, Nicholas Veinglou, Vincent Draaijer and Curt Henderson. That's all I could think of off the top of my head.
Beau Diakowicz is an absolutely incredible talent! He's incredibly original, creative and mind blowingly great! Of course, we must include Rick Graham on the list! Btw, if you haven't heard of Gavin Iedema, you're really going to be blown away.
Matteo Mancuso (this kid uses classical techquine like a boss) Charles Caswell (if you like heavy/djenty stuff checkout his new jam - DINGLEBERRIES) oh and Nick Johnston (great phrasing)
Martin ,do you think the standard cage system is easier for finding triads and their inversions were as this idea of arpeggios playing triads with all possible combinations in each position is helping more with connecting spots on the neck when playing single notes?
Bad Practice makes you bad by practicing the wrong thing. I am the perfect example of that, kids here have no idea how fortunate they are to find the right thing so fast.
Martin, eines Tages werde ich fleissendes Deutsch wissen! But when you see the fretboard, do you immediately associate every note on the neck you play with both its first position equivalent AND the note on the musical staff? Can/Do you see the neck in all the modes the way Frank Gambale does in his 'Modes, no more Mystery' video?
I just bought it :) just waiting for it to get downloaded, thank you. I am self taught with a full time job so some of the stuff you guys mention as obvious completely went over my head. Something tells me it will be a gold mine of information :D
ok ive got few days off from work and Ive been practising first set of exercises. In 2-3 days ill add minor exercises...loving it. I've bee reading some of the handbook in advance and i can tell this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much for releasing this and I am looking forward to the volume.
give the guy a break ! he was just asking the questions that seemed important to HIM.... telling somebody who already holds a degree egineering he needs to "learn" to focus could also bee seen as a little presumptuous ...... We should just be happy the two guys are kind enough to share content wich would not be for free normally!
These are the kind of online guitar lessons that ADD real value. Thank you Martin !

Martin is awesome!!! Thank you for this video
The expanded voicing of triads have several names; spread triads, open voiced triad.
Hey guy you have the incredible oportunity of having a lesson with Martin Miller and you just can’t let him finish his phrases!!!!
He probably just doesn't want to look bad or vulnerable on the camera. It's really hard for humans to say "I don't know", they would much rather prefer to act smart which is why we have religion.
C’est super ! Continue Martin
Kid's good but slightly came out as a know-it-all. You can tell Martin was being really patient as well.

This is really great stuff!

I do both for the most seamless fretboard knowledge. There is a huge overlap so it's not a ton of extra work. Great question!
I need to learn more to understand this question so it's a good question for me in a totally different way than for you lol. Thanks dude :)
Martin I am living breathing proof that you can practice being great at doing the wrong thing
Martin this stuff is very confusing ...can u please make a video on fretboard visualization ..for beginners ..just the path way to go
Bad Practice makes you bad by practicing the wrong thing. I am the perfect example of that, kids here have no idea how fortunate they are to find the right thing so fast.
+JoseitoEdlVodao Exactly. Perfect practice makes perfect. Seek out a great instructor or the right information and get working!

Hahhaha... You are not one of those students :P 12:47
Marko, next time you get a lesson less commens and more playing. Martin’s face was like ”For f**** sake, shut up and play what I just told you...”.
Hahaha yes I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure he realizes the difference in skill here.
He's the one parsing the lesson, if you don't like it YOU book a lesson with Martin.
